T2 will change your whole perspective on life

      • I was dragged to the Schonell theatre at UQ in 1984 to watch some Arnie robot movie. I knew nothing about it. I realised it was going to be great right from the opening blue text credits.

(PS: if you look carefully at the three punks the terminator steals clothes from, one of them is Bill Paxton).

      • +1

i havent actually seen either of the movies

Ho boy, you are in for a treat. Set aside some time for it, make sure you won't be disturbed. And even better, watch 'em at night, in the dark.

      • Wow, your in for a ride dude 😎

T2 is the best then t1 imo

    • Is there a reason they didn't use the good cover?

      • +1

Maybe something to do with Cameron losing the rights to the film for three decades. He finally got them back, partial rights anyway, but maybe he and the current distributor didn't get the full rights to the movie posters so can't use it. Just a guess why they wouldn't use the iconic movie poster.

        • Yeah, it has to be something lame like that…

    • "You're the disease……I'M THE CURE!"

  • +1

Cool but no need to apologise!

If you haven't seen T2, I urge you to watch that too - IMO one of the best sci-fi movies ever made.

    • I will just waiting for a big sale as i missed the last one i would prefer it on itunes as its 4k on there

    • +2

Agreed. I kinda say if you havent watched these Sci Fi movies/series we cannot acknowledge your existence.

      Firefly/Serenity
      Dark Matter
      Galaxy quest
      Terminator

      • And the original Total Recall. Get yourself to Mars.

        • "Get your ass to Mars"

          • +1

            @blitz: Oops.

            Also Alien and Aliens
            Logan’s Run.
Original Planet of the Apes and Soylent Green.

And I suppose if one must, the SW trilogy.

      • -1

        Havent seen any…

  • Clearing the decks for the (supposed) Terminator 4K release in August ? :P

    • Hopefully a better release than the awful T2 4K

  • +8

There's a dark and menacing grittiness in this film which you won't find in the subsequent sequels. This will always be my favourite Terminator film.

    • +3

Yeah, there is a real sense of terror - how to you defeat an unstoppable machine.

You only get a glimpse of CGI near the end of the film, it's all conveyed through the story

      • +1

Which bit at the end was CGI?

        • When you see the terminator and can see his skeleton. You can tell because the frame rate is around 10 fps

          • +4

@greatlamp: The robot skeleton at the end of the original "The Terminator" film was primarily achieved using practical effects, specifically a combination of stop-motion animation, animatronics, and puppetry. There was very little computer-generated imagery (CGI) used in the film, as it was released in 1984 and the technology was not yet advanced enough for extensive use in movies. However, there were some scenes that used rudimentary computer graphics, such as the readout of the Terminator's system as it analyzes Sarah Connor.

            • @AustriaBargain: Good response. I had a hunch that he was referring to the stop-motion Terminator scene. I was preparing a response myself lol.

      • Peak Arnie around that period too - Terminator, Commando, Predator. An absolutely ripped human being.

    • +1

Like people in the film commenting on how bad the Terminator smells later in the movie, after the meat cladded to the robot has taken a lot of bullets and starts rotting.

    • Michael Biehn gave a really underrated performance in that film. Its a shame he didn't get bigger mainstream success from it, because he really captured the PTSD of a guy who was born and lived through hell, only to get sent to the fantasy land of the past. I think it inspired the Android storyline in Dragonball, because that has the same energy.

That speech he gives in the parking lot still gives me chills. They say in movies you don't tell the audience, you show them, but him telling Sarah the unstoppable threat they're up against and the fear it inspires is intense.

He came to Australia last year and gave a talk. I only found out a month afterwards. I'm pretty pissed cause that would have been worth it.

      • Agree, his performance in that movie was great. He was also brilliant in Aliens, as standout in Tombstone, and very good in The Abyss, The Art of War and a few other lesser movies.

I recall him saying in an interview once, that he said that he sort of shot himself in the foot over the Alien 3 thing. Apparently they were going to use scenes of him as Hicks dead without his permission. He kicked up about it, ended up being paid more for that scene alone than he got paid for Aliens. After that work was a bit harder to come by.

If so, it's a shame as he surely was a very talented actor.

No doubt this deal will be back

  • JB hifi is also selling at $5. Just got mine plus Cinderella from them last night.

  • Are people preferring to buy physical Blu-ray or buy online copy to stream for their movie needs?

    • +1

Physical if you got the space. Digital is just a license and will generally be tied to a platform of some sort.

Blu rays are also getting dirt cheap at present for mainstream stuff like Terminator so it's a no-brainer for me personally.

      • Thanks mate. I thought society has moved on from physical copies. May be not.
