Tesla Number Plates

Is it a thing that Tesla's are given number plates with "EV" and "EPV" or are all the owners basic bitches who pay for a custom number plate?

If the latter, I wish I could go back in time and buy up all the stock.

This answer has the same amount of effort as your question.

Thank you for the feedback. I will take it on board when responding to future posts.

  • It is there to assist emergency services.

    • +2

      No, not the little sticker.

The fact that their number plates are often EV-123 or EPV-123 (for example).

      • Ah okay. Fair enough.

    • The blue triangle EV tags are mandatory for all EV vehicles. The OP didn't specify if they were talking about that or the actual lettering that includes EV within the six letters.

      • -1

The actual registration number. I notice a high proportion of them have an EV or EPV prefix.

        • +1

You're confusing it with the blue triangle

@Muzeeb: Wow. The real muzeeb posted on my thread. Btw my number plate is muzelvr

      • What if I put that on my ICE car?

In NSW the plate sequence was up to EVxxxx earlier this year which aligned with a few large shipments of new Teslas, purely coincidental

They seem to be up to EW and EY plates (I live near a Tesla delivery centre)

    • +2

This is the most rational answer.

      • +1

It's actually a super fascinating factoid if true. That's quite the coincidence.

        • +7

A factoid is something that seems true but isn’t

          • @parsimonious one: It is actually true. EVx xxx sequence was reached earlier this year (Jan 23 for Service NSW and late Feb/Mar 23 for dealer bulk).

This coincided with the largest Tesla shipment ever on the eastcoast, when they shifted to chartering the Grande Mirafiori whereas typical Ro-Ro are shared with other manufacturers.

        • My car was delivered last week and the NSW rego starts with EY so it probably is true

    • +1

      That makes sense. Cheers.

I see a large number of Tesla's at work (Victoria) and they are usually using either backfill older plates (or kept from older cars plates) that are something like CEFxxx or BXX xxx or the normal 1xx2yy numbers. You'd think if it was pretentious gitness it'd happen in Melbourne…

Instead we just get the pretentious Chayennes with pink number plates instead :p

    • Blonky nailed it. I’ve observed this independently (imminent Tesla owner with an unhealthy interest in number plates).

  • +6

I find it more interesting when I see a Tesla with standard issue plates

Basically yes, they're all sheep who think their plate idea is original

    • You think that's bad, I saw someone with part of their birthyear in their license plate.

They weren't the first person to think to do that, it was like a '86' or something.

Bloody sheep, with their unoriginal ideas.

    • +3

they're all sheep who think their plate idea is original

There was a Tesla owners meeting in the city last week…

    • Baaa guilty as charged - when I couldn't get the numbers I wanted, that was what I reverted to. No shame here.

    • I saw a personalised plate where they actually paid to have the word “pus” in it!

  • I normally see them with clever plates like "N001L", "H8CO2" etc.

    • +5

      Ironically, both false statements.

      • +1

Yeah, most of them don't really think it through.

    • WATTSGAS

      • Thank god we can have up to 9 characters here, without trying to write out something stupid in shorthand

OK. Toyota-lover (talk about basic as basic can get)

  • +7

I got wankery number plates for my EV just because I know it triggers people :D

    • +3

I would if it was free, I ain't paying.

    • -6

If it makes you more noticeable on the road, makes people pay more attention to you, then it probably makes your car safer.

        • Mine are technically "personal" because they are the same plate my family got in '72 or so when they got married. Vic roads treated it as a custom when they had to replace the plates (old and damaged) because they couldn't just pull the next one out of the box.

        • +8

People with personalised number plates are scum of the earth.

          LOL… ok, champ. Triggered much.

Scum of the earth, huh? Right up there with murderers, domestic abusers, rapists and paedos?

The seven circles of hell; Greed, Gluttony, Sloth, Wrath….. all the way down to "personalised plates"…

        • People with personalised number plates are scum of the earth. I can't think of a more ridiculous way to spend money.

That just makes the less than clever with their money, not scum. Although, personalised plates can be a warning sign of wither vanity issues.

I know plenty of really nice people with personalised plates. I also see plenty of douchebags with regular plates.

I wanted EV for my hybrid but ended up with EX so now my number plate says sex when you read it a certain way (being in NSW)

    • That plate should be on a Honda Jazz Vibe. Or a BYO Dolphin. Oops, BYD Dolphin that should be.

Someone in a Tesla delivered my DoorDash lunch order b4 . I think he hasn't figured out the depreciation costs with the slave labour rates they are paid.

    • +2

No it's just some guy who thinks they figured out the tax system and is trying to wash business activities through the car.

  • It's not a Tesla if it doesn't have custom plates.

  • +2

I bought a diesel vehicle and then put personalised EV plates on it just to mess with people's heads ….

    • It's not an MG petrol ZS is it? Someone did that up the road from me…

  • +3

I can’t afford an EV so had to settle for the Greta fuel cap

    https://ibb.co/vzxZMVg

    • +1

I like the ones where people have 3D printed fuel caps that have an EV type connector moulded onto the cap. They park in EV charging spots and connect the charger to their fuel cap.

I saw one with ‘silent’ the other day. But it went past me at the same sound level as all the other cars. Tyre noise is a thing. Just silent when at the lights.

    • +1

A fair number of EV drivers think their cars are zero emissions and didn't take anything to produce, so it doesn't surprise me that they think it's silent on the road lol

  • -1

EPV could be the next available plates at the dealership

    • -1

In NSW? You're way behind the times. That was 2021

      • Yeah it’s EYE in 2023

  • My wife has custom plates on her ice car ive always jokingly said got to be a bit up yourself.

  • +2

I wish I could go back in time and buy up all the stock.

Sounds like you are confusing Tesla for a DeLorean.

  • Custom plates are the reason I know the guy with NOTAX used to have a Bimmer and now drives a Jag.

I'd have thought you'd want to blend in.

  • I think you need to stop getting your knickers in a twist about such trivial things.

  • I find myself driving (deliberately) more dangerously around Teslas. As I am aware they have cameras around the car recording at all times, I hope to end up on a Dash Cam Owners Australia compilation.

    • +1

Protip: You can cut a Tesla off and it will emergency brake and let you in.

      • Thank you I will do this at my earliest convenience.
