Their trade-in offers are a joke.

  • +8

Or just sell it literally anywhere else for more than their offers?

    • And then buy a new laptop from anywhere. I don't see how this is a deal at all.

They are a joke. Never cease to amaze me this lot.

They hold the title for the only place in Australia to put a surcharge on Afterpay that I know of. You’ll have to visit the Auburn branch to take advantage of this though.

Also don’t put a deposit down on anything with this lot. . Even if you cancel it within hours. They will be keeping the surcharge. May have to go into Auburn branch for this too. They have never done this to me via the online store.

This is a bit offtopic but it sounds like most people here don’t rate CentreCom, so what PC parts shops do you recommend?

I often go by Staticice and don’t know if it’s better to support PLE vs CPL vs UMart etc. I’ve mostly bought from CPL and MSY in the past and Skycomp once or twice. They’ve all been reasonable.

      • I went from Centrecom, to PCcasegear, to MSY.

Now I just get stuff from ebay/amazon during the sales. Haven't needed to step foot in a computer store for years.

    • Jetstar puts a surcharge on Afterpay.

Seems like there’s way too many ways for them to mess you around. They reference Ts & Cs multiple times but can’t see a link to one for this particular offer.

“ Centre Com reserves the right to not make a loss.”

“ Centre Com reserves the rights to change/alter Terms & Conditions of our website without prior notice to you. It is your responsibility to check the websites for any changes.”

    • What counts as a loss

The labour cost of administrating a refund? ..

Better off selling privately to avoid getting ripped off. Nothing exciting about this Centrecon offer.

If its working, it has more value than a trade in - this is the general rule

Trade ins are for people who don't want to put in any effort; a nice little bit of cash for the lazy who would just put the old laptop in a cupboard and forget about it. For the shop and the manufacturers, it means those people who might have bought your old laptop are forced to buy new - cha-ching.

If they were sensible, they would offer a service where all your files are copied across, and the old laptop disk imaged into an archive file on the new laptop - and the old laptop 'recycled' - rather than trying on this trade in con.

$235 for an i9!!! Righto..will you give me $50 for my S23 ultra too please?

Terrible deal. Probably the worst I've ever seen on this site.

  • +2

Never mind they use your old drive in the enclosure to be fair

Up to $235 is a joke. The only people to trade in their hardware for such a low price are clowns and thieves.

    • Thieves will have no use of store credit.

  • a very bad deal. Will result in the customer making a loss.

  • In their defence, they are up front about what they'll pay you. That's more transparent than Cashies or guessing what you might get through Gumtree etc in a very crowded market.

    • +2

I don’t see any info on what they classify as fair, good or excellent, so doesn’t feel all that transparent to me.

      • They are not to be trusted. I know first hand how evil this lot are

      • +1

They're transparent, they'll pay you bugger all.

        • Haha, true.

  • I have a Cyrix 586 laptop that still works.
I wonder how much they might give me for that?

  • +1

Terrible deal, centre com are the worst. They were good 20 years ago, but that was a long time ago

    • +1

Yes, the lies behind the smiling eyes

  • +1

If you have an i9 laptop, you be able to flip it easily on gumtree/facebook/ebay for at least twice the best price they'd give here
    Terrible trade in price

  • +1

the only difference between this and trading in a car is that this was posted as a deal

  • -2

If you have a 2008 first gen i7, how is this not a deal? Trading from $70 for "Fair", $150 for "Good" and $195 for "Excellent".

I can see people making tones from this deal by gathering old school laptops that are thrown out.

    • How can you make money out of it when you have to buy a new computer each time? I’m guessing that when you said tones, you meant to say tons.
