  • Thanks OP! Have been waiting for this one to go on sale as well. Getting the Xbox one for PC gaming as well

  • Awesome price, was waiting too. $120 cheaper than a certain Aus store!

  • Without knowing the returns policy, I'd say this is almost worth the risk for XBox users.

Seem to be USA based, which would make it a 1 year warranty that requires return to the USA. Ok they're out of Texas, and they are listed as an authorised Audeze dealer under Mimic Cables.

Has anyone contacted them to confirm the details about returns, as it might be $50 to ship back.

Thanks, Google didn't immediately spit that out. The key problems you're going to run into out of the box are an already loose wire (probably fixable), a dead driver or chipset, or mismatched drivers, resulting in phase distortion.

The latter can be difficult for people to convey to a support agent, but creates significant harmonic distortion, and is more common on planar drivers than the dynamic ones people are used to. Novice users might not notice the issue until they hit specific songs in their library.

RTings have done an investigation into their pair and found it did have a phase mismatch, and there have been reports of this and channel imbalance online. I don't think the fault rate would be above 2%, but it's important that people don't get stuck with a faulty product and thoroughly assess the product inside the 30-day return window. They also have the option of testing this headset at Addicted to Audio stores, which are in most capital cities.

FWIW, I think these will go on sale for $375-$399 at Addicted to Audio a few times until they get superseded (assuming Audeze's manufacturing costs don't go down substantially), and I can't imagine the first one will be far away as their pre-order backlog has dropped off.

    I have these, highly recommend

    Audeze nuts

  • Can these be used as work from home headsets?

    • +1

Yes - either via the included usb-c wireless dongle (has a usb-a to usb-c adapter) or via bluetooth.

Though be mindful that the headset weighs 490gm.

      Jabra Evolve 65 is 310gm
      Sony WH-1000XM5 about 250gm
      Bose QC45 238gm

      • Oh jeez yeh bit heavy

      • +1

Wow wouldn't expect Jabra Evolve 65 to be heavier than the larger headphones

Fact check: I see 110 grams for that model

        Extended search:

First couple of variations on the model present results between 45 grams and 170 grams

I see a listing with 310 grams - maybe it is including the charging stand in the weight - weird

  • which version should I get if I would mainly use it on PC but have a PS5 too that I could use it occasionally on? Is the dolby atmos worth it?

    • +3

I rate Windows Sonic as it doesn't boost the bass, but it would be significantly cheaper to buy a licence separately (even cheaper again if you're savvy), but pay attention to my comment here regarding returns and issues to check for out of the box: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13715374/redir

      • gracias, works out then. And thanks for the heads up regarding the other things, definitely good to look out for.

    • PS version

    • I don't own these but generally I'd say atmos is gimmicky. If it's hard baked into a game see what you think. However I would say it depends if you're a bit of a tryhard multiplayer gamer like me and want clean audio. If you're casual and just like atmosphere then go for it. I run non gamer headphones through a DAC/amp which can do all that funky stuff but I leave it turned off for gaming. I crank it for movies though.

    I have these -

The difference between the Xbox and PS version is that the Xbox version comes with the Dolby surround sound license and the PS version doesn’t (it does whatever the ps surround sound is called).

If you use the PS version on PC you just buy the Dolby license for your PC and get the surround audio.

In terms of sound and build quality these are freaking top notch. Love ‘em.

    • Yep no point paying extra for Xbox version if only using for PC

  • +3

I cancelled my original order when Audeze lied and lied and lied.
Still want a set though. Would the $60 premium from ATA be worth it though for an ease of warranty though…

    • +3

I would say yes ATA are amazing to deal with.
One fault and postage back to US would be close to $69 anyway.

    • +1

That's where I got mine from. This is a good price if you're willing to take the risk, but for $65 extra you get pretty much 2 years local warranty.

      • This is what I'm thinking. Sending to the US at my own cost isn't ideal and as this is a Gen1 product I can reasonably assume a possible warranty eventually.

        • First gen for the Bluetooth tech, everything else is 3rd gen.

          • @jasswolf: The whole system is 1st gen 1st production run

            • @Mums Poop Sock: No, the first generation product was the Audeze Mobius, followed by the Audeze Penrose. Driver size is smaller, but the active diaphragm area is the same. It's part of the refinements they've been doing.

  • also own these, flawless headset great build quality used to own the penrose before hand

  • I hope the build quality is better than the Penrose, since mine snapped from the ear cup twist area. I had to open it up to diy repair and it's pretty sad to see how little reinforcement there was in an area of high and frequent stress.

    • yeh mine snapped also in the same spot, 100% build and design improvement

  • Bought these last week from ATA and they are worth every cent

If you have a card that charges international transaction fee's you dont belong here.

        • +1

The most popular one would probably be ING. It is recommended here a lot as well as on reddit.

            • +1

@craving: Stop being an idiot, you patronise OP saying you will give them the benefit of the doubt that they never ordered from overseas while threating to neg them. You talk as if you are an authority on the matter yet you dont even know the basics of how to avoid the fee's. You now try to talk down to me about making assumptions, you are on a site dedicated to bargains and opening an feeless account is free and saves you money, the whole damn purpose of this place. How about instead of trying to talk down to me you should try tuning on your brain before making such a stupid comment.

              • +1

@emrys1: You're putting words into people's mouths. I don't talk with authority. This is a free site but facts are always valued. Not everyone has to have an ING account to buy something once or twice in a year. Look at yourself in the mirror and perhaps you can see who is the idiot. And you are making way too many assumptions yourself. If everyone is as smart as you are in this world then we all be rich nobody is complaining and there's no war, right?
Oh I do have an account with Citibank but what has that got anything to do with overseas transaction fees that 'Most' financial providers charged. By telling me I don't belong here you are the one speaking with authority.

              • -2

@emrys1: If you're bored, go and hassle someone else.

                • @craving: I dont bother with cowards who delete their comments.

                  • -2

@emrys1: …..and yup, exactly. Luckily we don't have people like you running this country.

  • I bought Maxwell (470 from AddictedToAudio) to replace my Penrose after the second ear cup finally snapped off… I'm happy with these, but 1 week in and don't think they are as comfortable. Penrose had an overly strong clamping force (as Maxwell does) in the beginning but it went away once the plastic stretched out a bit. Maxwell is mostly metal so not sure how they will adjust over time. The fit in comparison to Penrose is also a bit limited since there's only 5 possible length adjustments. I could put Penrose on and basically forget I was wearing them for an entire day, while these need constant adjustment and even rest breaks. It's most likely the additional weight, which I hope I can adjust to. The sound quality, feature set, and construction is a step above Penrose though.

I'd recommend getting a headband from Amazon as it makes them soooo much comfier, and having the band itself on different notches on each side.

      • Any rec's or links to a replacement headband? I've got the left one notch lower than the right at the moment to make it usable, but it would definitely be better with some more padding.

        • I hear the geekria hook and loop headband cover is good for the audeze range well according to various reddit threads. Maybe try that.

          • @XxAiDsTaRxX: Yeah that's the one I found as well. Trying to convince myself to just go with that and not shell out for the ZMF Co-Pilot…

            • @cakez: Nice one mate, addicted to audio is now out of stock of the ps5 ones so that sucks. Good luck with the headset.

      • I had tried all combinations on the headband, but each hole is a nearly 10mm adjustment. I grabbed some cushion tape from daiso and stuck two layers onto the band. ~4mm of extra cushion and I can achieve a perfect fit now. It's not the most beautiful thing but not bad for $3.

This is the case I bought for them (recommended on some of the forums). It fits them in flat (fold the ear cups down). It’s fairly sturdy. For my use I’m just storing them at home, not really planning to take them out much.

  • Has anyone received a shipping notification?

    • nope still waiting. i emailed them going wtf

      • Still waiting my notification. The Shop App Just states order place.

        • Are you guys still waiting? @bazzak did they reply to you?

          • @eventus: I emailed Mimic Audio last night to find out what is going on.
Will post up what response I get.
I have seen on the Audeze sub-reddit that some suppliers have been sending out notfication to customers that they receiving stock in June to fulfil orders.

            • @SpaceGhost: Hi guys. Got a reply from Mimic Audio today saying they will be shipping my order out on Wednesday. Hope that helps.

              • @SpaceGhost: Just got a notification from the "Shop" app that the headphones had been shipped overnight.

          • @eventus: sorry mate just saw this, i cancelled my order. It was on back-order there, they were waiting for a June/July release from Audeze for stock when i messaged. Same scenario for the local Aussie Addicted to Audio tbh so not their fault. I ended up going for Steelseries Arctis Nova Pro wired, Mwave had a random pricing error on their website so i got it for $220 pick-up lmao, very happy with it because im ok with wired. But yeah got lucky on the timing dont know what happened with Mwave lmao
