Cheapest 3-5 Days Holiday in July for One

  1. I have a Qantas flight pass valuing at $350 expiring in December 23 from Covid that I don’t have opportunity to use in the last 2 years
  2. I need to take 3 days (they are not accumulating annual leave) off in anytime in July 23 but not in June or Aug. Plus weekend, that’s max of 5 days
  3. I live in Melbourne. Will be traveling by myself.
  4. I don’t care where I go, just don’t want to waste the 3 days leave and the flight voucher but don’t want to spend much as I have a big trip lining up in Oct and Nov 23 already

Any suggestion on what are the most cost-effective way to get myself a mini holiday in July 23?

Go for a holiday in your backyard. There you go, cheapest option

Now, how about telling us what your realistic budget expectation is, and what you define as a "big" holiday

    • I will have a 7 weeks overseas holiday in Oct and Nov.
For my mini holiday in July I think the budget is under $800 Plus the $350 Qantas/ Jetstar flight voucher.
I dont mind having a break in my backyard but the voucher would be wasted.

Qantas - Where can I go?

Punching in your variables gives Launceston, Newcastle, Adelaide, Hobart, Gold Coast, Sydney, Canberra, Devonport, Burnie, Ballina for under $350

  • Two years and you can only get three days of holiday?

    • Lol. More of I completely forgot about the travel credit until recently

Well I'd personally look for any theatre performances put on within $350 return flying distance. Any musical or opera I'd always wanted to see that will never be put on in Adelaide. And then build the rest of the holiday around that.

        • Good idea, at least in that case I’m not just wondering around

Use google flights and search Melbourne to Australia
And filter the flights for oneworld (for which Qantas is a member)

Flights - realistically youre looking at Tassie, Sydney or Adelaide on that budget. Maybe Canberra.

Accommodation costs - Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide, Hobart from most expensive to least (youre missing Dark fomo in Hobart whih is in June).

Weather - Tasmania, freezing, Sydney, a toss up, Canberra, could snow, Adelaide will be chilly but mild.

Have you looked at whats on?

    • Adeladie is pretty freezing right now and could be even more freezing in July. A low of six degrees today. I just ordered a heated throw.

      • This is true. Was 4.5 the other day. Even we could get snow ❄️

Illuminate Adelaide will be on during July.

  • Any interest in visiting Uluru?

    • I have not been to Uluru, but I’m not sure about if I can cope with the temperature at night. Need to think about it. July is just such a cold month to travel within my budget. Lol

      • You'll only really need to be outside on one evening - for the 1.5 hour Field of Light tour. There's an upside in winter, you won't find as many flies during the daytime.

    Tasmania.

  • High key, have a look at places you can take a V/Line too with the new fare cap. Given it’s $9.20, you can go pretty far for not much. Bring a laptop to watch a movie/look outside the window, get some snacks from aldi/coles and have a little day trip, you could use PT regionally but personally I’d also suggest bringing an eBike/eScooter since PT is shit regionally. You could stay the night (might be somewhat expensive) or you could just come back at the end of the day depending which line you travel on.
