Nielsen nbn Panel Termination

Looks like they are terminating the NBN panel :( make sure you use your points

Panel Termination

We'd like to thank you for your participation in the nbn Nielsen Broadband panel. The program will be coming to a close effective 31st of May 2023. We know that it can be difficult to say goodbye, but we want to assure you that we appreciate your participation and feedback throughout the program. The feedback you have been providing as a participant in the Panel has been invaluable in shaping developments and improvements in nbn services.

We understand that this may be disappointing news, and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We’ll be in touch about any next steps as we retire the program.

Please refrain from disposing of the white box device. We will provide you with additional information in due course. However, if you prefer to disconnect the device and store it securely, you are free to do so.

Please note that all remaining reward points earned by panellists will still be valid and can be redeemed as usual for the next 30 days. After 30 days, any remaining reward points will expire and become void. If you have any questions or concerns regarding reward points, please contact our support team at [email protected].

Thank you for your participation in the nbn Nielsen Broadband Panel. It has been a pleasure having you as a part of our community. We will be in touch with next steps soon.

Thank you,
Nielsen Broadband Panel

  • Damn how much did they pay

    • Not much tbh

  • Thanks Pazza

  • All those monthly $1000 give always cost money in the end.

I made about $500 from them over the years.

  • damn, i got the email too

  • Lol. What can we do with the white box? I assume it can be flashed with original firmware

    • I'm exploring options too.

  • Oh, I got an email inviting me to join the "Measuring Broadband Australia" program… would that be the replacement to Nielsen's one? $125 Coles gift card worth of points on my account certainly better than nothing :)

Also, anything interesting we can do with the old box? Hacked/flashed into something useful?

    • "Please refrain from disposing of the white box device. We will provide you with additional information in due course. However, if you prefer to disconnect the device and store it securely, you are free to do so."

    • Just got an email stating that they'll be sending a prepaid parcel where we need to pack the box in and drop into AusPost mailbox or PO.

  • -2

I'm shattered that I had to leave $1 worth of points in my account after carefully arranging my redemptions to use up all but 10 points.

I'll leave the box plugged in until I get the e-gift cards, and then see about opening it and hacking it.

It runs a flavour of OpenWRT, so I imagine that it is hackable with a JTAG or similar, but that said, they've asked you not to dispose of the box, and I expect they'll end up sending a reply paid satchel, and send it back to the supplier to be re-flashed as an AskSAM monitoring box.

    • well im short 10 point!

    • Lmao there’s no way they will bother

  • Redeemed a $50 WW GC around a week ago but haven't received it yet. Sent an email to their helpdesk and they tell me it has been already sent out and that too on the same day the points were redeemed.

That has never happened before I don't think because they usually take a day or two at least for the gift cards to be sent out. So I'm wondering if this has anything to do with it.

Interested in finding out if others trying to redeem their points now are actually receiving their GCs or are they trying to pull a fast one on us.

    • Did you check your junk mail?

      • Well that's what they tell me don't recall their emails being diverted to junk before. I can't see anything in the junk folder either anyways so let's see if they can resend it or if they are having me on.

      • They sorted it out a few days later after a couple of emails so all good in the hood.

    • I got mine

  • I just got an email saying my claim was rejected.
1000 points for $100 Bunnings voucher
100 points for $10 WISH Woolies coucher.
    25 points remaning…
    But, ALL REJECTED!

    • My Coles vouchers arrived today after being ordered yesterday, and have been spent.

What was interesting was that the vouchers were issued back in February, so maybe the issue is that they send you vouchers that they have already purchased.

Might be worth trying say 2x$50 Bunnings and $10 Coles?

    • did you end up sorting that out?
mine worked for 1000 points and failed for 250 and 150 today.

  • They are very dodgy. I just noticed that they haven't paid me the quarterly bonus for the first year.
also they should round up all points to nearest 50 to allow full redemption of points.

    Their response is as follows:
    Joined 20-Oct-2021
Q4, 21 - not qualified as not active for 3 months
    Q1, 22 - Rejected for CX & speed test
    Q2, 22 - rejected for CX survey
    Q3, 22 - missed, 60 points credited

  • Same all my claims rejected , they are not answering their phone number either , useless!

  • We apologise for what happened.

Unfortunately, due to the surge of redemptions recently most of the famous products went temporarily unavailable hence, your redemption turned out to be rejected or failed. Rest assured there has been no points deducted from your account.

Please be advised that Coles voucher is back, if you can place a new redemption request and it should be good.

  • What a joke , didn't work again!

We regret to inform you that your request for Coles Vouchers has failed due to the unavailability of the product at the moment. We have already taken the necessary steps to address this issue by escalating it to the vendor and awaiting their response.

Rest assured there have been no points deducted from your account. You are more than welcome to redeem other products from the option if you wish like Woolworths. Otherwise, we have to wait for further notice from the vendor and will keep you posted.

  • I got email for coles and myers vouchers 10 mins after redemption

  • +1

I had a 8 port switch fail a few months ago (not all ports in use), and after juggling a few devices around, had been using the Nielsen / SamKnows device as a replacement for the failed switch - I just picked up a replacement 5 port switch for $34 at Officeworks, so after the $55 of Coles vouchers I got out of my five months in the program, I'm $21 ahead overall.

Just annoyed I didn't find out about this free money earlier.

I don't know off the top of my head what the OzBargain rules are about posting links to hacking information, but I do know that if you google "hacking samknows" you'll find a couple of links that might help you get OpenWRT or DD-WRT up and running on it, if Nielsen ask you to dispose of it responsibly.

They might ask you to return it - it might be worth more than the return postage to them to return it to SamKnows.

  • Looks like they're going to send the white boxes to recycling. Guess I'm gonna hack it instead.

    From the email:
The nbn Nielsen Broadband Panel is ending on 31 May 2023. Due to this, we ask that you return the White Box Device (pictured below) that was provided to you at the start of the program so we can recycle it and avoid unnecessary waste going to landfill.

To facilitate this, a prepaid post bag will be sent to your registered address in the next three weeks.

    Well they want it back

"The nbn Nielsen Broadband Panel is ending on 31 May 2023. Due to this, we ask that you return the White Box Device (pictured below) that was provided to you at the start of the program so we can recycle it and avoid unnecessary waste going to landfill.

To facilitate this, a prepaid post bag will be sent to your registered address in the next three weeks.

Simply follow these steps to return the equipment:

Put the White Box Device (by folding in the antennas) and its cables inside the post bag and seal it."

Interesting to know if they follow this up ……. I'm sure I can recycle it better as a TP-Link TL-WDR3600 instead of melted down for metal!

    • Weird - I only just got the email - two weeks after you.

  • so is there another 50points coming for May 23 ? or just redeem what i can now. ?
