  • JW had this for this price one night, but had gone up the next day. Just waiting for a store with better reviews on product reviews to lower their price

    • $1500 would get my interest on this as would $2000 on a 4090

      • +2

If you're willing and able to blow $1500 on a mediocre perf bump gen on gen, why bother holding out for months to save $300?

        • Principle.

…and I said it would get my interest, not necessarily my $ 😉

FYI, gen-on-gen the diff between 3090 and 4090 isn't mediocre. The evidence is well documented, take a look.

          • -1

@Lps: The leap from my GTX 560 to GTX 970 was 300%. Used 970 cost me $200 at the time.

Pretty sure the FX5200 to 6600xt was like 1800% improvement. Then the difference from 6600xt to 8800gt/4850 era was like 1400%. The difference gen to gen thesedays is very mediocre

            • @Jimmy77: Please explain this to Gamer Dad Reviews (below). He thinks it makes sense to spend twice as much to get a 4090 for, as you say, a mediocre improvement.

              Yours Jimmy…

              • @Lps: If you're happy with either one you're still a sucker. Whether it be an overpriced $1500 4080 or the overpriced 4090.

Who would think it makes sense to pay $15 for a carton of eggs? Suckers. They're happy with getting priced gouged, what else would you call them?

                • @Jimmy77: I'm not sure the 4090 is overpriced at under aud$2k. I'd need to have access to nvidias financials on this specific product to get a better idea. What I do know is that at sub 2k it's price-to-performance becomes much more sensible (at least for a top tier product).

Still expensive at 2k for sure, but a lot cheaper than its previous absurd $3.5k+

If I'm still a sucker at $2k, then at least I get some comfort knowing that I'm a wealthy sucker who could have paid 3k, or 5k, but didn't. 😁

                  • @Lps: Well GTX 1080 was the best gpu for $950, then 1080ti for $1500, then 3090 for $2500. I think as a whole they're incredibly overpriced, if you're comparing it to the last 5 years then less so. But this is still the most expensive they've ever been without crypto. The 3080 was $1130 on launch (evga black), it's successor the 4080 is like $1800.

Most 4090's are bought by people saving their youth allowance for 2 months. They're hardly wealthy. Maybe 75 inch plasma TV wealthy but even most teenagers with part time jobs have 5k saved. My 2 power bills last winter cost more than 4090. When you look at consoles and gpu history it's like triple the cost. High end gpu's were sub $1000 until the last few years, now you can't even get the 4070ti for that.

It's an electrical item at the end of the day (that quickly goes obsolete), $2000 should honestly get you an entire pc with a 4080. These will need to be upgraded in the short term anyway if you want to properly experience pathtracing/ue5

        • Good point. According to Tech Powerup, the RTX 4080 is 30% more powerful than my existing RTX 3080 Ti. Then the RTX 4090 is 30% more powerful again. So it actually makes sense for me to spend up to twice as much to get a 4090, as the relative improvement is precisely twice as much compared to the relative improvement of the 4080.

          • @Gamer Dad Reviews: I'll let you work it out with Jimmy (above). He thinks there's very little generational difference, so to pay twice as much - as you suggested makes sense - seems..well, silly.

            Yours Gamer…

@Gamer Dad Reviews: So next gen (in about 2 years) it should be ok to pay double the current 5080 price for a 5090 then?

  • Difference between this model and the Gaming OC one?

    • white/silver colour generally, aero is marketed towards creators.

    • I have this one (Aero) in the wife's computer at home. It definitely comes in a different box to the Gaming OC one. Oh, and it's white.

Jokes aside, the only differences I can see in the photos are to the shroud, backplate, and lighting, and they are most likely cosmetic only.

    • You can easily pay a hundred bucks less than this for Gaming OC so unless you need white just do that.

  • +4

Yeh if you don't need white, Gaming OC for $1695:

Buy MSI or ASUS for happier face.

1.2/1.3% failure rate vs 1.8% lol. We don't even know the numbers of sales there. Not particularly useful data nor is it even remotely that big a gap even if numbers were similar.

      • +1

Also the warranty time rankings are inverted for motherboards, so it seems like the sample size must be pretty small.

        • Most of the issues I see online are for their cheaper offerings too.

Anecdotal, sure, but between my personal PC (Gigabyte Gaming OC 2080 Super with Gigabyte x570 Aorus motherboard) which has been going perfectly in a small form factor PC for 3 years. Plus helped 2 mates and a work colleague build their PC's 2 with Gigabyte GPUs, and 1 with a gigabyte mother board. All over the last 2-3 years. None have had issues so far. Ehh.

    • +1

The link you gave shows those brands having less than 2 faulty per 100 units which is good. Just because its ranked lower doesn't mean its trash. A 0.5% difference isnt that much considering gigabyte sell more variations including significantly much cheaper variants.

  • +2

Meh as long as the warranty goes through, wouldn't trust Asus either with the recent shananigans they pulled surrounding their motherboards.

  • Always want a red color graphics card

  • +1

    Come back when $800

  • Nice! That means Nvidia is hurting with lower sales.

BTW, why would you go for this when you can go for this uber deal instead at PCByte??? https://www.pcbyte.com.au/p/asus-rog-strix-geforce-rtxtm-409…

    • Oooh! Price also includes lucky draw give-aways!!

    • now THAT is an OzBargain

    • More expensive than both kidneys.

    • +1

      ty bought 2

  • Is $10 shipping really worth worrying about on an $1800 product?
