It's a good price for an Ecodrive but damn these entry-level Citizen watches look so bland and underwhelming in videos that I can't imagine they'd look any better in-person.

The dial colour is so muted, almost desaturated-looking and the font for the hour markers just looks weird.

I do like that yellow dial though

The photo doesn't do it justice. It looks pretty amazing in person.. 😁

      • I actually saw it yesterday in-store. I'm still not that impressed but the green dial does look marginally better in-person.

In my experience, when it comes to a lot of cheaper Japanese quartz watches, they either:

        • Look amazing in photos and terrible in-person.
        • Look terrible in photos but amazing in-person.
        • Oh, mine was in reference to the green dial. The image that came up for me originally when the post was first published was the green one.. 😅

If I have time in between cleaning the house, I'll try and snap a few better photos for those interested.. 😅

  • Not super into any of the watches this weekend. The champagne dial Seiko looks alright but I could do without the date sub-dial.

my wallet breathes a sigh of relief as well.

  • nj0150-81z anyone know when this will come to aus ?

$430 on Amazon.com.au (sold by Amazon Germany) seems decent.

I'd be waiting for them to refresh it with a better movement.

      • Why better movement? Also do these go on sale ?

        • For the price, the movement is probably fine. However, it seems this watch has been made with both hacking and non-hacking 8210. I'm a bit OCD so I always want hacking.
I also look for something better than the basic 3hz/~40 hours these days.

I'm not sure about finding it any cheaper than that. It already seem like a pretty low price for it.

          • @O15: Not sure if you noticed but it has non standard lugs so you're stuck with the bracelet.

            • @WatchNerd: I have a few watches with integrated bracelets, I don't mind them.

  • Do the direction markings on the dial and bezel serve any function or purely decorations?

    • It is "compass-inspired" design. It would be cool if there was a button you press and the second hand goes loose and turns into a compass, then press it again and the hand snaps back into counting seconds.

These look like real compass watches with compass buttons on some of them, most of them are uglier than JV's mom tho https://watchesyoucanafford.com/affordable-compass-watches/

      • I thought there's some clever calculation you can do by rotating the bezel. Similar to a tachymeter that shows speed.

        • Based on the position of the sun or something?

      • My mudmaster does it! Was also looking at a Suunto Core just for the compass alone but then I thought like, why? 🤣

Cheapest I saw was $199 at TGG if you're interested to wait for a clearance sale.. 😅 Shoot us a reminder if you do? <3

          Like this Mudmaster? https://watchesyoucanafford.com/affordable-compass-watches/#…

Here's the compass using the second hand in action if anyone is curious https://youtu.be/31QDzQqJnnc?t=24

          • @AustriaBargain: Yeah, basically same dial style, just different colours and a positive display. Mudmaster model GG1000-1A3.

If you're really interested in the extra features, the triple or even quad sensors can be had for like $100 more (compared to mine) generally if you can find a good special at the right time.

        • my entry-level ga1000 gravitymaster does it as well. so satisfying watching the seconds hand whizzing around the dial

Heh - that article should be renamed ‘Affordable Casio Compass Watches’. Out of the 15 watches mentioned only 1/3 were other brands. That’s not to say the article is biased, just an observation Casio seems to have cornered that part of the market. :-)

I will admit, the Pathfinder Casual certainly caught my eye.

just an observation that Casio seems to have cornered that part of the market. :-)

amongst the many reasons why they're god-tier

that yellow dial is fun, im into it

  • Is it any good?

    • +2

      Yes.

      • There goes @WatchNerd again with his completely unbiased, humble review of the SKMEI 1628..

Damnit, I really have to stop making fun of you at the same time as checking what's on my wrist.. FACEPALM! >.<'

haha I see, but looks nice though.

Yeah, I have a feeling some may pull it off. But a lot of others couldn't.. 😅

    • milanese/mesh bracelet = painful hair trap

      • Do you mean for hairy arms or hair from your head?

        • -1

          hairy arms.

of course, if you want to wear it on your head, all the power to you ;)

  • Anyone know where to buy good nato straps or straps in general?

    • +1

Barton seems to get mentioned a lot around here. i haven't tried them yet

  • I'm tempted by the CA4558. Convince me otherwise.

  • Yellow dial looks good, but fixed dial is a dealbreaker

  • Anyone have any experience buying from this seller? Im not usually too hesitant on buying stuff from websites, but watches seem like a more costly investment sometimes.

I'm not associated with Starbuy but have been posting their deals for years, plenty of other members have too.

The link to their old posts is in the description. It goes back a long way. You literally couldn't buy from a more reliable online Aus watch store.

i've bought at least 21 watches from starbuy over the years. couldn't find a more trustworthy seller if i tried. they always ship out express post so it's almost as good as instant gratification.

edit: check out all 33 pages of their deals since 2015: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/starbuy.com.au?page=33

professional counselling costs too much. cheaper to keep the habit going by buying another ripper sub $100 g-shock

  • Anyone got an idea on when the AT0200 will be on sale again? Currently listed for $249 (down from $399) but history tells me it has dropped to $149 pretty often so I am keen to wait for that day to come around again. Keen for a watch but not that keen!
