QFF Points for Paying HECS Debt

Hi all,

Just curious, I have been eyeing the countless credit card deals with introductory offers awarding 1,000s of Qantas Frequent Flyer points for $3,000 spend in 90 days, for example. Would paying a portion of my hecs debt count towards the minimum spend? Hoping anyone who has tried the same could shed some light.

    Payments to ATO are almost always excluded. I’m not aware of any card where it would count. Best to read the fine print

    Depending on how you pay HECS off, if you can bpay it then a third party payment processor like sniip could work - pay off the amount and the payment would be counted as regular spend on your card. You'd get charged a percentage processing fee, so work out whether it's worth it in your circumstance.

        Just use Beem to pay the bpay ammount.

        Download the Beem app. Its self explanatory.

        That being said, I cant see how you would get a card confirmed, sent out, and also beat the indexing deadline at this point.

    Snap, I just paid mine off too, this interest rate is a killer. But only by bank transfer - ATO makes you pay the credit card fee, which I feel negates any FF bonus?

    BeemIt or Zip Pay (both do not have BPAY transaction fees) - MasterCard or VISA Credit cards (no AMEX)

    Or Sniip (with a ridiculous >2% business rate applied to ATO BPAY payments making it pretty much not worth it even with AmEx support as long as the above 2 methods exist).

    this is enlightening. My BAS is like 30k per month. Since the transaction fee is not worth it i've been paying via normal BPay… going to investigate this Beemit thing!!!

      $10k rolling monthly limit on BeemIt unfortunately. If your family/friends had accounts however…

      Zip will give you a $1k limit (with invitation to increase to $2k later), but takes a couple of days to process so may take a while to clear $30k (they have processing timeframes from memory)

    Help! Have a 60k hex debt. Have applied today for a couple of CCs today, not sure if they will come through in time. Have applied for FF card. How do you earn points? Can pay about 30k. Please steps
