Nice find OP. I've had one for a couple of years and are amazing for the price.

  • Both sold out online. How do we check store availability?

  • Hips in Garden City when I there last Saturday. Bought one at full price before and purchased an adaptor to fit with cheap butane can, pretty good for cooking soup/noodle/water.

    • About 16 left at Caloundra. Also a bunch of the new version "Ultra Jet 1" for $59.

      No gas canisters left though…!

  • How does it compare to Jet boil?

    • +2

It is not as good as Jebboil, but let us say it has 80% of capbility of Jetboil, I have carry this one to complete a couple of 3-4nights hiking during summer time in VIC. It is pretty nice.

Old version is $49 comparing new version at $59 with a foldable caniser stabilizer. I have open the cartoon box in the Kmart to find out why some one is $59 comparing other one $49 in the store.

      • Thanks for that

    • I have the JetBoil and my son has this kmart version. For a fraction of the cost, it is impressively good.

  • Have one, really nice

    • Great review actually. I was surprised the lengths she went to for a simple comparison.

TLDR for the lazy. Kmart might get done for copying too closely. The Kmart one is lower quality and bigger/heavier but does a similar job for 1/4 the price.

I've got one and really like it.
The "we are explorers review is good , but she is wrong about the stove and canister not fitting in the pot.
If you push the bottom of the gas canister in to the top of the burner ( all the way in where the pot "screws" into it) and remove the plastic seal cap from the gas canister it fits EXACTLY within the lid i.e. the bump on top of the canister fits into the bump on the lid.
It is a firm push to slide the canister into the burner.
The plastic cup does not fit though.

        • The above review says you can’t control the heat, It’s either on flat out or off but I watched a video review that looked like he was adjusting the orange nob.
          Can you please confirm this?

@dan76n: I have one (the original model, same as this deal), and yep, you can adjust the heat.

I just pulled it out to test how far you can turn it down, and it absolutely can do a very low simmer. At the lowest gas setting the flame is tiny and I get pretty good simmering action when half full of water.

That said, the simmer control is not super precise. It takes relatively fine adjustments of the knob to get the lowest setting and it really helps precision if you can see the flame. It doesn't take much rotation to reach full power, and you can then turn the knob a lot more without change, since it is already fully open. The design of these pots will tend to concentrate heat in certain spots (at the lowest setting, the middle), so they are not ideal for simmering thick stuff unless you stir it.

And like joecullen said, the Kmart one does pack completely into itself - albeit not including the cup.

            • @Prong: One other weird thing - that review says the Kmart one "takes up an ungodly amount of space in my backpack."

But I checked and the diameter is the same, and the Kmart one is 2cm longer. And a half a centimeter of that is just the little nubbin on the lid. Even with the reviewer not packing it correctly to fit it all inside the pot, it's a minor difference all things considered.

I bought the Furno stove with the pot set and used it this weekend ($59 from anaconda). Thought it went really well. Definitely a good alternative to the jetboil if you can’t get a hold of this kmart one.

  • Could you cook snags with this?

    • Yes.

    • You could boil or steam them.

    OOS.. 😪

  • Cool I grabbed one thanks - still a few available around Brisbane. It always annoyed me having to get the stove going just to make a cup of coffee but wasn't willing to invest in a Jetboil.

    • Aaaaaand order cancelled.

      • Do a free trial of OnePass and get it delivered. If they cancel the order then it just means whatever store the order went to could not find it. You can then just order again, and the order goes to another store. For nearly gone stuff it can take a few goes around before it ends up somewhere that can actually find it.

Thanks for the heads up - I managed to find stock at an even more convenient store with pickup confirmed.

  • when I was looking at buying a jetboil as a camping cooking stove, they are used to boil water, so there is no ability to lower the heat to simmer. they have this coil things at the bottom, which is suppose to make it efficient at boiling water quickly with less fuel. This suits people who mainly eat freeze dried meals.

I dehydrate my own meals and I usually use the simmer to cook. So i didnt go down the jetboil route. I think new jetboils do simmer.

    • Jetboil call it a 'flux ring'. I purchased a pot with one from fire maple (cheapish chinese brand) and just did a quick comparison to my old camping pot at home. Using my MSR Pocket Rocket stove, the pot with the flux ring boiled 1L in about half the time as the pot without.
It wasn't a proper double blind test with appropriate statistical analysis, but it was enough to convince me to change up pots.

  • OK. Bought one today from Kmart. Loads on the shelf.

Funny thing, this is discounted as they bought out a new one - "Jet Boil 1" with slightly different specs. Kmart belmont (WA) stuffed up the barcode in the system. They had both the old and new mixed together on the shelf.
The old one scans at $59 the new one at $39. You would not know the difference just to look at them, so becareful and use the price checker.
So I got the new model with the clearance price.
