Dyson Gen5detect Absolute Vacuum Cleaner $921 Delivered @ Dyson eBay

1460
SNSOMAYPWESNS

Very cheap and cheaper yet to this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/774880

Full credit to: @alanxu120

Added "SNSOMAY" for non eBay Plus members, thanks to @Jespur

Original Coupon Deal

I just bought with $900 eBay gift card purchased from Shopback.

So the calculation looks like:
$921 - $22.50 = $898.50 (final cost out of pocket).

Unsure if we can stack with cashback deals from Shopback, but wasn't really prepared to wait given how good the deal is already.

        Yes I do (sometimes).

        Do you like yours?

        • +6

          hahahahaha

I know it's not the done thing, but I appreciate you jv

          • +2

@andresampras: It was just as smartazz reply… 😄

  • Damn! Purchased it for $1149 two weeks back. The other deal was already $128 less and now this! :|

    • How do you find it? Happy with its performance?

      • +4

Oh its great. Have a Miele C3 as well but Dyson is equally powerful but more convenient. Bought the detailing kit and a stand as well, will buy the extra battery once its available cause low runtime of about 30mins is probably the only real complaint.

        • Great to hear. Appreciate your thoughts!

        • Which detailing kit?

        • Where did you get the stand? Can't seems to find one compatible with gen5detect at dyson site.

        • Hey mate. Our Miele is on its last legs I think. Can a Dyson replace this fully, or am I going to find I need to run two vacuums like you have?

          • +1

@psabbrev: I bought Dyson for convenience. Miele was difficult to carry up and down so we ended up not vacuuming for days.
Dyson Gen5 sucks as much as Miele (pun intended) but the only frustrating this is the run time. You can't do all your cleaning in one go because the run time is 10-30mins depending on usage and recharge takes about 3hrs.
That and the cost are probably the only things to consider I'd say.

            • @expatOz: Does the gen5 come with an easily removable battery? Maybe you can grab a spare battery.
Otherwise, the issue will go away when you get a new vacuum. I have the V10 and after I bought the V11 I still keep the V10 as a spare. Now with the gen5 coming in soon I can finally sell off the V10. It is pretty handy to keep a vacuum for each floor and if one runs out you can just grab the other.

              • @truetypezk: Yes, the battery is removable but I couldn't find a spare battery on sale yet. I still wouldn't buy it cause its probably $200+.

    • Same here, purchased 2 days ago though

  • Haha, can save another $4.5 if you buy gift card from giftcardexchange (3% off)

  • +4

To think all the things you could of bought with that saved $228 if you'd only waited a couple more weeks!

  • Getting Ebay plus membership would be great. Otherwise price is showing to be $1,021.

  • +1

Thank you! 2% instant cash back for eBay gift cards if you buy through Macquarie, came down to $900 clean

  • got it thanks 👍👍🙏🙏

  • This or Miele C3? Need to be able to clean bedding due to dust mite allergy.

  • I'm thinking of upgrading from a V8 to the Gen5. Anyone find it too heavy? My wife doesn't like the weight of the V8 already

    • +2

Definitely heavier as per wife (uses 2x a day), much stronger suction and great with pet hair pickup.

It’s actually quieter than our previous V10

    • +1

Most of the negative comments about the gen5 are centred around its weight.
I went for the v12 mainly for it's light weight.

  • Oh damn! Thanks better than the good guys deal.

Now to find discounted EBay cards

Edit: 2.5% with ShopBack is fine with me.

    THANK YOU

    • +1

I bought mine from Shopback for 2.5% cashback extra hence my calculations. If you can find bigger discounts elsewhere, then its even better savings!

      • +1

Thank you! Glad this occurred before 3pm. Otherwise i would have bought the good guys deals!

      • +3

Get SB Swap GC for 3% discount, redeem Ebay GC.

        • Even better!

  • Is this worth over a Roborok?

  • +1

Pretty good for a flagship model. Tempting.

Is it compatible with V10 dock and accessories?

    • Keen to know too, a quick internet search seems to suggest that the charging head is now bigger. Unlikely to fit, but happy to be proven wrong.

    • +1

      Unlikely - video doesn't mention Gen5Detect - but does show the V15 doesn't fit - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3oZiIbYZsg

    • You are right, the charging cradles are different, therefore the dock wouldn't be compatible.

Gives me a reason to defer the purchase and wait for a deal on the "Complete" version. :D

The multi dock that is compatible with Gen5detect costs $149, I think sometimes they give it away for free as a bonus, so don't really feel like buying it.

    • I bought a stand separately since Dyson won't sell the compatible one outside of their bundle.

EzyMount Dyson Floor Stand EDS-V2G $99, $61 via Good Guys Commercial The power plug won't thread through the hole at the base of the mount plate so it looks slightly less neat as you have to wrap the cable around as opposed to just going straight through.
M5x25mm $4 Bunnings (The two included M5x16mm with the stand are too shallow to mount Gen5 detect stand, M5x20mm also too short to properly secure).

  • ok Thanks for the post ,, just bought…

  • +7

I used code "SNSOMAY" to get it for the same price. Didn't need eBay Plus.

    • Thanks!

I can confirm that the code works.

    • Thanks a lot! Bought with this code and didn't sign up for eBay+

    • Updated post, thanks!

  • Damn bought the V15 complete in Mar $950 :(

    • +1

Dont worry, we will be in the same boat as you in few months time,,, ( Dam we bought Gen5detect for 898 last month ,,,,!!!! 😀

      • +2

Maybe eBay Plus will come along with one of those Gen5detect for $699 deals with limited 100 quantity lottery events!

    • Recommend you contact Dyson if you can still return it. I have heard people just outside the period.

  • Ahh, not sure whether it's worth waiting for EOFY with this price!

  • Will goodguys pricematch eBay ?

    • +3

To my knowledge nobody price-matches when there's a code involved.

    • Its the same price on the ebay before the coupon code

  • Thanks, grabbed one!

  • Just purchased the v12 complete for $689 a few weeks ago, I don't think I "need" this.

    • Depends on your needs, if you have carpet this is better

      • Only my living room is carpet; rest of house is wooden and tiled floors.

  • +1

Upgrading from a dc59 nearly 10yrs ago. Sold.

  • Is this better than a v15 detect complete?

Damn I wish there was a deal for the complete version of this one. Too many missing accessories with this absolute version.

    • Someone commented in the previous thread that it is apparently a big upgrade from V15. I won't know as I'd be upgrading from V12 to this one :-)

      • I bought the V15 a few months back and now just bought this for the parents as they were pretty wow-ed by it so wondering if i should gift them the v15 and take the gen5 for me.. i've only got floorboards and a dog tho where they have mixed carpets and tile etc..

      • The light is a lot brighter and you don't need to hold the trigger down. It says 30% more powerful in the blurb but can't remember which model they are referring to.

    • +2

I have mentioned it is a big upgrade. If you have bought the V15 recently I recommend you get in touch with Dyson if you can still return it. I returned the V15 without the 30 day period but know someone who was just outside and Dyson was really good about it.

I thought the V15 was good but there were a couple of annoying things. I will try and list out the benefits of Gen5Detect over the V15 (from most important to least):
      - On/Off button: this is a massive difference and is a big complaint about the V15 to the point where you can get a device which permanently presses the V15 power button. Generally it is not that annoying but after a while with RSI, etc. it is.
      - Brighter light: much better light even though the V15 is still pretty good. The light is definitely the best thing about these newer vacuums - you will vacuum a lot more efficiently but also likely more given that it shows you all the dust, etc.
      - Countdown timer on batter: one of the really good aspects is seeing a battery clock countdown so you know exactly how long you have left. FYI I did buy a spare battery for the V15 but I had to return it as it does not fit the Gen5Detect.
      - Auto detect when it is vacuuming a heap of crap so it automatically goes on the stronger mode.
      - LCD screen which shows you volumes of dust particles by size, etc. is a bit gimmicky.

Don't think anyone I know has regretted buying one and they all speak highly of it. There's also minor things they do well like it is so easy to empty out, etc.

Only downside would be that for some people it may get heavy but if you're using it every day or 2 you get used to it. Even my kids use it (the light feature gives them an incentive to use).

      • So my v15 complete has all these features except the stronger light and the power button. If I see a deal on the gen5 complete then I might consider trying to return it, but I won’t have much time left :/

      • Any comments around longevity of Dysons? My family have been turned off since our early V model almost 10 years ago kept shutting off or the battery died etc.

      • Agree 100%.

Only drawback is the weight, ~3.5kg by memory. Fine for the first 20 minutes but there will come a time where you begin to feel it..

  • +1
    • +$230 to buy the missing stuff separately. Makes this effectively $1151. However the complete has nicer colours. Will stick with my v15 complete I think.

  • +3

Still a lot of money though for a vacuum..

  • just bought $1063 lastnight for the gen5 complete!
Should I cancel my order, get the absolute cheaper almost $200?….. :(

    • +1

Where do you get the complete for that price? I’ll take it! Complete is better

The problems with Dyson Gen5 Detect cordless vacuum cleaner

Somewhat concerning how the V15 works better on carpet than Gen5….
Apparently Gen5 is the most powerful but works worst on carpet compared to other models.
Bin emptying feature is worst compared to other models, hmmm

Any Gen5 owners like to chime in?

    • Anyone?

    • +2

Just comments after watching the video and have largely a different experience from the Youtuber.

      • I find that the bin emptying feature is actually really easy to use. I have not had to take the whole thing off to take hair, etc. out. Just empty the bottom and it will come out. Now I have a dog so get hair/fur in there but most of the time (if there's some hair stuck) you just thrust it up/down without opening the whole thing and it comes out (it is actually very easy/quick like shaking something).

      • In terms of carpet, admittedly I have more hard floors that I focus on but have not come across his issue. I think he should have got in touch with Dyson customer support first to see whether something is not working as he would expect.

      • Appreciate the post, made it a much easier decision to buy.

  • Can you use the $100 coupon code and a gift card in the same transaction? I can get eBay gift card with 4% discount from work but don't want to get it if i can't use it.

There seems to be mixed information on google. Some say you can't but post above suggests you can.

    • +1

      That's what the OP did.

    • Can confirm it worked. Ended up being about 3.5% discount on the gift card after surcharge so ended up costing me around $888.59.

    • +1

Yes, GCs and codes can be stacked 🙂

  • For those looking for the extra attachments.
Do they ever go on sale?

    • I find accessories rarely go on sale, so best to get them as part of the deal.

      • Okay, guess I’ll use it until I find there is possibly a need for something!

    • +1

With the detail kit, you can get aftermarket ones that work just as good but at 1/3 the cost on aliexpress.
The only thing I'd avoid buying aftermarket are batteries or the floor heads. Genuine would work much better.

      • worth noting the aliexpress 3rd party hose extension doesn't appear to be the retractable.

    • +1

As mentioned by @3zzy in the thread above, TGG Commercial has the detailing kit for $65.

      • Great! Thank you. Will grab that now!

      • Kit is now $60 on commercial for anyone looking.

  • +2

I’m upgrading from a V6. This upgrade is going to suck.
    Thanks OP

    • Me too. V6 Slim is 6.5yrs old and pretty much on its last legs

  • -3

Looks like the complete edition isn’t sold anywhere else except Dyson website. Shame because this is missing too many accessories to be worthwhile.

  • Price has gone back up. Sale over

  • +1

price gone up on eBay now
