      Actually I'm glad they did. I got the Dyson Zone a few months back when it was heavily discounted, and the sound quality is shockingly good. The stock frequency response is generally to my liking, but I've changed to the "Enhanced" EQ setting as its less sibilant. If the Ontrac sounds equally good (and I didn't already own the Zone), I'd be willing to pay $400.

          After additional research, I've found that the OnTrac has a tuning that's different to the Zone. crinacle's review of the Zone was quite positive about its sound quality, compared to the Sony headphones which were described as "so f**king muddy".

      It really did seem like the numbers didn't work out for manufacturing the Dyson cars in the UK, but I wish they'd partnered with either a legacy automaker or a Chinese EV company to bring it to market. The car seemed really well thought out and designed, and companies like Xiaomi have shown that know how in consumer electronics can be leveraged to make great EVs. Funnily enough, Dreame, a Chinese vacuum company whose products were popular on OzB, recently announced they'd be getting into the EV game.

    Got order cancellation email every time I tried to purchase these headphones. I tried several cards, never worked.
    But one attempt I made the night before was like this: They charged my card, several minutes later they made a refund, then the next morning when I checked my bank account I saw a pending transaction possibly for that order (but recorded time of this transaction is in the morning), but haven't received any order confirmation or shipping information… awful experience

      crinacle, a well-regarded individual in the audiophile space, did a review of the Dyson Zone and was quite positive about it (except for the MSRP of course). Seems like Dyson somehow managed to hire some good audio engineers.

      I'm what most people would describe as an audiophile (LS50 Metas on desk, Vintage Sonus Fabers in the living room, Clear Audio turntable, Audeze LCD2 and Focal Elear headphones, collection of vinyl and Tidal+ etc) and I think they look great! Much nicer than the boring looking offerings from the usual suspects at this price range. On top of that, the audio quality has been well reviewed. I still would like to try before buying, and I'm fairly certain they will drop considerably lower in the months to come, mostly because of people who don't know what they're talking about, avoiding them just because they're made by Dyson!

      I've got the Dyson Zones, which have the same drivers as these, but heavier because of all the fan stuff.

      The Sony, Bose, Sonos, etc. all sound like absolute crap in comparison to these. It's a joke how people are willing to spend $600 on headphones that make all the music you listen to sound joyless, empty, bloaty mid-bass.

      I love the Dysons. The ANC on the Sony/Bose is probably a touch better, but I'm super happy. Transparency mode on the Zones is really great too.

      I do understand why people get the Sony/Bose style ones - they're super light, and easy to live with. If you care about your music however, don't get them.

      The only "problem" with the Zone/Ontrac is how "look at me" they are, but you can probably get the graphite coloured ones to blend in with urban life a bit better.

          I only have limited experience with the Airpod Max, but I'd say they're in the ball park. Word on the street is only the Focal Bathys sound better than the Dysons for wireless headphones, and they cost (checks prices) $1.2k… But I haven't listened to those, so I don't know for sure.

          JBL was (and in certain markets still is) a premium audiophile brand in both the consumer and professional markets. Their most expensive consumer speakers are $140,000 each. Stop the slander. I know you might only know about the crap that they sell in JB HiFi (post Samsung's acquisition of Harman) but that's an unfair reflection on the brand as a whole.

    grabbed a pair to test them properly and compare to the headphones I have and had. over the last 3 years I changed a lot of wireless cans

    had QC latest models including Ultra (the first iteration of it, didn't like it at all), 45 and last QC without number - they were great, but lack of high-res codecs wasn't pleasant (musical hearing here). otherwise very good ANC and pleasant fit. if last QC had no weirdness in response curve and had high res codec these would be a keeper for me.

    had XM4 over ear, and didn't like the sound (after B&W Px7 original and S2). ANC was good, but listening wasn't enjoyable even after EQ tweaks. from Sony camp I also have (still have and are my daily drivers now) the ULT Wear. Bassy - I like bass - without losing too much in treble and mids. Good listening, high res codec LDAC, good ANC (but only good, not great). If these had more interesting design, and ANC to match latest QC that would be a keeper too.

    And I had the Px7. original, S2, S2e. well damn. I almost bought S3 last night and they are kinda expensive, but I don't know if I want to. I'd rather get this Dyson half price and give them a shot. because every generation of Px7 found a way to disappoint me despite all the marketing hype. probably because they gimp Px7 deliberately to make you buy Px8? I don't know if they are that evil. But sound was good, mostly enjoyable, funny enough, on the original Px7. Didn't offer a way to tweak or EQ it, but it didn't need it. Sound was just perfect. S2 and S2e improved each of them slightly on the ANC front, but listening experience went downhill IMO. I still like the design and like I mentioned was keen to give Px7 S3 a go, but after the previous experiences yeah nah. I'll sit this one out folks

    so here we are, kind of big shoes to fill for Dyson here, let's see. I like the design, so we're off to a good start, but will it feel good in hand as opposed to on the screen? and what will it sound like, I guess we'll find out soon. my phone supports LHDC. I think.

      totally agree with your thoughts on the Ultra, I actually hated them.. the earlier Bose models were much better.

      If I had some spare cash I'd try out these Dysons but.. well Ive tried so many wireless probably time to give it a bit of a rest anyway :) And the Bose I have are excellent, QuietComfort SC.

        yeah I had SC too. really wanted to keep them, they are so comfortable. I guess it's in the name isn't it lol QuietComfort - they were both. but then I can't complain about sound since they don't have the Sound in the name do they

        weird spikes in the response curve and lack of high res codecs (I can hear the difference sadly) killed them for me. but when new iteration comes out will probably give them a go..

        Dyson at least comes with "try for 45 days" option, so I guess I could do just that and see how it works if I don't like them. worst case I go back to Sony ULT wear, they are reasonably good.

          Interested to hear your thoughts on the Dysons. I've been quite happy with the Momentum 4, great for sound quality, but for noise cancellation, they aren't as good as Bose, Sony and Apple (which isn't a priority for me anyway). Arguably the best value, often going on sale for between for $250-300, when stacked with cashback and giftcards. 60 hour battery life is also great!

              @shabaka: I agree, visually it’s extremely bland - but definitely sounds more natural and spacious than both Bose, Sony and even many of B&Ws offerings. That said, if you’re chasing a bassy signature, I can see why they wouldn’t fit your preferences.

                @poppingtags: I'd say that if Dyson doesn't work out, I'll give M4 a go as well, as I am still on a lookout for something that ticks all the boxes for me. but if you say that ANC isn't advanced, that's not a good sign

                I have Sennheiser HD 599 SE which I use for gaming and occasionally use it for music too, I like the way they sound but that's an open back.

      I also have the ULT Wear. so glad I got it when I did. as you say great sound/bass with custom EQ applied, and decent ANC. it's my favorite headphones I have ever had. but it is still with it's faults.

      managed to get mine for $215 a month after it was released so I have had it for over a year now. and it has cracked where one of the cups connects and spins on the headband. I carefully glued it back so it's good as new and still spins. but this is a ongoing issue with many sony headphones, I think it's because it's made from % recycled plastic. I heard the earpads peel quickly too, but mine are still holding up. I tend not to be too greasy though and wipe them with tissue whenever I notice any shininess.

      but no headphone is perfect. just glad I found a great deal on them because I have enjoyed every minute of the sound.

        yes. most reviews exaggerated how bassy they were, it's nothing like that. I enjoy them a lot, pretty much same EQ that I got at the beginning. I run them at ULT1 and Clear Bass set to minus 2. very smooth sound, super enjoyable.

          out of the box and on ULT setting 2 they are a bit muffled and overly bassy. I think that's what most reviewers are talking about.
          but yeah I agree after perfecting EQ to my hearing, the sound is great clear with that cinema like powerful deep bass which I love so much. especially when watching movies if you aren't hearing it on the ULT's you are just missing a whole experience. really felt like I get that full movie experience from the comfort of the bedroom. no other headphone has given me that before.

    Excellent tuning, poor comfort.

    These are essenially on-ear headphones for many people.

    But yeah, the tuning is great. ANC is higher tier. And I personally kinda like the style.

    I have these and find them to be excellent—great sound and noise cancelling, long battery life, well-built, and comfortable.

    Unpacked mine yesterday and wasn't happy with them, they are going back to Dyson.

    Overall I liked the build quality (although they are rather heavy). Very solid build. And I love the looks. If a bit garish, but those complimentary cushions and covers are handy, the ones I got would give a nice and refined look.

    ANC is great, but not quite at the level of Bose QC latest version. Fit is nice, but they are huge and feel huge. can be subjective though, so YMMV.

    Sound quality is where things fell apart from me. And first thing I did when I unpacked them is I installed the latest firmware that gives you 5 band EQ. Yes you can EQ these now to your liking, which I did. Sound is fine. The lack of high-res codecs kills these for me. Yes they support LHDC but that's something that is not available on my phone (please enlighten me where you can find this implemented). S25 Ultra doesn't have it. it was running on AAC for me, and compared to Sony ULT Wear which run on LDAC, Dyson sounded very coarse which is very much felt in tracks I listen to. it's a shame as I like the design. why they didn't choose something mainstream like LDAC or AptX is beyond me.
