I bought this a while back and it’s great for the price. The pieces are plastic, so I did order proper wooden chess pieces and for the others too, now it’s premium feeling.
I just picked this up from the Salvos for $8 and was thinking of doing the same. Do you remember where you got the wooden pieces from?
I just used either eBay or AliExpress. If you type in wooden chess pieces I’m sure you’ll find some. I even changed the checker pieces to wood too. And found better quality dice.

Good one. Yes I know the power outages in advance to keep my Switch and other battery powered games fully or decently charged to last the outages
@foreverphoenix: I didn't consider charging. My 6 year old sits it in the dock when it's not being used. He avails of powerbanks if he has overused it (VERY rare) I and wants to chill in other parts of the house.

You can spend a fortune on chess sets if you want. It depends on if you want it for decor to show off, or if you want something to play with.
If you have a few hundred dollars burning a hole in your pocket you might like googling Official FIDE World Championship Chess Set.
If you're after a local specialist chess shop google "Chess Shop" and your nearest city or large town. There aren't many left.
