Free Movie without Ads - e.g. Come and See, Stalker, Dersu Uzala & More @ Mosfilm via YouTube

391

A lot of people sharing "free" movies lately that are locked behind paywalls or littered with ads, so I thought I'd chime in with this.

This channel seems to preserve and upload certain pieces of soviet and Russian cinema from throughout history.

Come And See, for those who may be unfamiliar, is the highest rated film on all of Letterboxd and is also in the Criterion Collection.

Also featured on this channel of note are:
Come and See
Dersu Uzala from famed Japanese director Akira Kurosawa (ranked 245th on Letterboxd's top 250)
And Stalker from Andrey Tarkovsky which is considered a masterpiece in its own right (36th on the top 250)

In my attempts to scrub through the runtimes I've encountered no ads thus far.

So if you comment "anything good?" When people share movie deals, try these. If you can't appreciate them, that's on you.

In my attempts to scrub through the runtimes I've encountered no ads thus far.

If you have YT premium you shouldn’t see any ads.

    • I don't have YouTube premium
Edit: I also didn't have anything to do with the referral link

it's just hard work to get through this movie,
    just truly tough

but yea, has to be seen for that german officer with a monkey on his shoulder scene

Stalker is fantastic - recommend chucking a sickie and watching it on a rainy day.

Tarkovsky's the mirror, solaris (the original), andrei rublev, the passion according to andrei, and ivans childhood, are all on youtube with many being restored. There are also lots of great little docos about the movies and the director, and if you really want to go down the rabbit hole, a two hour evaluation called the andrei tarkovsky retrospective.

Bbc have a 55 min on youtube called tarkovsky's cinema, theres an intriguing doco called directed by andrei tarkovsky, a 1983 one called a poet in the cinena and, my favourite of obscure things tarkovsky what looks like a german flick called the exile and death of andrei tarkovsky, a weird mix of first person voice over, german narrative from a film maker including the great "bach, bach, bach" quote , and lots of existential angst. Recommended for Kierkegaard fans. Not yr average documentary.

Are the films scattered? Or on this channel?

I'd love to get around to the Tarkovsky ones you mentioned, but, y'know, Zelda and shit

      • Yeah all on mosfilm.
The docos are all over the place though.
A societ take on zelda would be fun…

Mosfilm is owned by Kirill Androsov, one of Putins henchmen. Please reconsider supporting this particular channel.

      Where are you seeing that?

        Wikipedia, lol.

        • Great rebuttal. Very poignant

            • @shroomish: So in 2015 (which the article kindly reminds us is over 7 years ago), your mate invested money into Mosfilm to ensure the nearly 100-year-old venture run by Directors with the aim of preserving and promoting cinema, could continue producing films and distribute them (sometimes for free like in the case here) for people to see.

              Great detective work.

Ok so many of tarkovsky's films are also available on mubi. You can get a great boxset of the dvds for about 70 bucks, last time i looked. The blu rays done by british institute havent been restored so no point buying them over dvds. Restored blu rays are likely on criterion and i dont think we can access criterion channel here even with vpn, but would love to be wrong :)

Happy to say you are wrong - I've had it for years. You need to sign up behind a VPN but once you have you can watch it without one with no problems. It's really excellent.

        • Joy!!!!

Much obliged. Will definitely look into it.

As predicted, feed now clogged up with free videos. Can this just be in a forum please.

    • What? I posted this weeks ago?
And considering the alternative to (legally) watching Dersu Uzala, for example, is to but the Blu Ray which costs $30+ here, I believe this is justified.

    • Do you mind clarifying how this isn't a deal without conflating it with the culture war propaganda post?
