$169.15 but there is a $50 off coupon which brings it down to $119.15 at checkout. Looks to only work for this one colour. Sorry, I don't know how many coupons there are. I had a quick look and couldn't see anyone else near this price. Thought I saw something on AliExpress, but it looks like they are trying to pull a swifty. Cheaper price with the tent picture but when you click into it, it looks like you are only paying for the awning.

Been using the blue version of these. Great value. Survived many multi day hikes without any issues

  • +3

Great tent, have the grey/white version.
Easy to set up, v roomy and hanging shelf overhead is v useful.
Been in rain once, stayed dry
It's a copy of the MSR HUBBA HUBBA

    • +1

I bought the Naturehike Star River 2 which is a four-season tent from Amazon AU for ~$165 on special which is a direct clone of the MSR (but a tonne cheaper), it was excellent in wild weather in the Vic high-country!

All these Naturehikes come with a foot print which is also great and easy to pack/unpack. Make sure you buy the right range for the weather you're expecting.

      • Nice, did the wild weather include much snow?

      • This one? https://www.amazon.com.au/Naturehike-Star-River-Lightweight-…

Might be a deal for those that miss out on the Mongar.

        • +1

Ah yes, but I had the white and red one (20D?) this seems like a 210T?

@wittyusername yeah, we had 1 night of a dusting of snow and so whilst a few other tents didn't survive (they slept in the car) this little guy housed two of us - though we didn't get much sleep.

This doesn't have a snow skirt (at least the 20D didn't) so I wouldn't take this out into the snow - though this didn't pull up any snow wind.

For anyone reading, it's a only structural copy of the Hubba Hubba range (and similar ones from other high end brands like Nemo or Big Agnes).

It's about twice the weight of those higher-end brands, and won't pack down as well, but that might not be terrible if you're splitting it between two people, and totally a non-issue if you're car camping.

It also probably has decent waterproofing, at least for trips that you don't cancel in advance of heavy rain, but it wouldn't hurt to do a test, and consider giving a treatment with Nikwax spray or similar for peace of mind.

It is however, an order of magnitude cheaper… I think the HH was around $800 last time I checked.

      Good deal really.

      • Only 1kg more 2.4 kg vs 1.4kg

But the price $800ish fmedead, You couldn't leave your tent unattended at a camping site - it might get nicked!

        • Hiking for 6 days, 1kg matters. Thats why there's a market for things like Titanium cutlery etc. Still this is going to be a good deal for some :)

What's up with the recent tent deals on ozbargain lately 🤣

      Housing crisis 😢

    • Been holding for almost a year. Should I hold more or would I hold more

Now is the winter of our discount tent.

      • This is the best comment I've ever seen on here. Outstanding.

      • Comment of the year. Maybe last year too, but I can't be bothered checking.

      • gets my upvote for best comment this year

    • +1

Ikr? To make it worthwhile you actually have to leave your house for a while on multiple occasions. What must people be thinking 😂

    • +1

camping had a huge run run in covid but has slowed down so people trying to make same sales as last year or clear stock. Also easter is the last good camping sales opportunity pre september school holidays so if you need to sell you need to discount.

  • +1

does it come with a foot print?
I bought a cloudup 2 and it came with the footprint.

    cloudup 2 1.8gk vs Mongar 2 2.4 kg
I would take the mongar because I like the side entrance better. possibly more space on the inside as well.

    • +4

Comes with a footprint. Naturehike make great tents, comparable quality to the American equivalents that they copy, but one fifth the price.

      • the only drawback i would say is lack of support after. they dont sell replacement parts which is a shame as my cloudup 2 had a pole connector snap and they wont even sell me a new set of poles

        • Yeah that's a shame. No luck on AliExpress for parts either?

          • @Mischaseb: unfortunately not. it seems they used to sell as i found some archived items but no longer, customer support said they cant help.
shame, cause otherwise im a huge fan

  • +1

The material is different from other colours.

    MATERIAL
    - Rainfly:210T rip-stop nylon,silicone coated (3000mm waterproof index),Floor:15D rip-stop,silicone coated(2000mm waterproof index),Poles:7001 aluminum.

    • +1

It's also heavier, and a pack in a larger volume

    • I noticed that. Is it inferior though in terms of durability or water resistance?

      • No, it's not.
The heavier fabric has better durability
        and water resistance.
However, you need to ensure over time,
that the seams are sealed properly
and also, to use a footprint underneath the tent to protect the tent floor.

        • Interesting

I wonder why they are selling it for cheaper then

          • +1

@dinglejerry: Because the alternative is lighter and therefore more desirable, but because it's lighter the material isn't as durable. To get lightness and durability your need to spend 5-8x more.

            • @frugalferret: Ok thanks for that. I’m assuming even the heavier version should still be reasonably compact for carrying went hiking etc?

              • @dinglejerry: when you're starting out camping/hiking,
you won't know why there is fussiness over the size of the packed tent,
the weight of the tent itself, the waterproof 'rating', etc.

until you are experiencing the issues yourself, it won't make as much sense to you.

it's always a compromise between weight, cost and functionality.

the best, most lightweight tents on the market are made from Dyneema material,
                so go and have a look at the ZPacks tents;
they are about 500 - 700 grams (without the poles) and cost more than AU$1000
and here we are looking at a 2 or 2.5kg tent for AU$100+

so, there are a significant number of people who pay
the AU$900 difference for a difference in weight,
                (and other functionality)
ie. in this example, a difference of ~1.5kg

                • +1

@whyisave: Yeah I've done a few multi day hikes in the snowys, i'm pretty fit so generally it doesn't bother me, I was hoping I could use this as I'm not out there doing it every weekend.

Main concern I have is it will keep me dry and is not going to be ridiculously heavy.

                  • @dinglejerry: Officially, this tent in this listing is listed as a "3-season" tent.
It's better to look for a "4-season" tent, if you are camping
in the Snowy Mountains….during the winters.

If you know what you're doing, then you can manage with 3-season tents too.

Then again, there are sometimes condensation issues inside tents.

                    • @whyisave: hey mate, generally I don't go in winter - i would get a 4 season tent for that purpose. Outside of that I assume this would be ok. Also I have a -10 sleeping bag.

  • So which season is this tent not suitable for?

    • +2

This is more like a three season tent, generally not suitable for Winter however it depends where you camp. If you're camping in Australia it may be usable for Winter.

    • all year round if you rent it out indoors for tenants ….3 season if you rent it out on the balcony

  • +4

fk, I just bought a tent.

  • How about their Pop Up Dual-Purpose Tents which is at similar price

    • I have the same question. Any one have the comments?

      • +1

As a start, pop-up tents do not pack-down into smaller bags,
        than other regular tents.

Also, for the size of the tent, it's much heavier than a traditional tent.
But terms like "heavier" is relative in camping,
because a 3kg tent is heavy compared to a 2kg tent.

        • +1

          Also poles are plastic.

  • been looking to get camping gear, just picked this up thanks mate

  • +4

I have 2 of these, and the original MSR it's cloned from. For those that don't know, this is a clone of https://www.msrgear.com/ie/tents/backpacking-tents/hubba-hub…, much cheaper and quality is the same to me. It's nicer to save money and change them more often as the material (MSR or Mongar) gets sticky and moldy.

  • +1

I have this tent for multiday hiking and love it. Absolute steal for this price

  • Off topic, but does anyone have a recommendation for a lightweight sleeping bag for multi day hiking?

    • +2

Check out the Aegismax brand on AliExpress. They make great lightweight down sleeping bags.

  • +1

    Thanks OP. Bought 2.

Was going to buy the Aldi Adventuridge 4 person tent for some glamping with friends (our kids are still young), but this will enable us to do multi-day hikes later on.

  • How does the coupon work? I couldn't see it anywhere?

    • +2

Isn't it just below the price? I just opened the page in a private tab and the checkbox was there.

  • Coupon not showing for me either. Perhaps deal is finished?

    • Maybe try again. I tried twice. First time no, second time yes.

Edit: It does seem wierd. It wasn't there for a bit but I kept refreshing and it appeared. I didn't check the box (so I don't know if the discount applies) as I don't need the tent/coupon and don't want to use one if that's how it's limited. Maybe keep refreshing until it appears?

Edit 2: It does seem to be over now.

  • So I got one of these (thanks OP), but I noticed it's different material to the other colours…so I wonder if they are trying to offload old stock - is it still likely to be a good choice for 3 season hiking in Aus?

    • Better material.

      • Huh? That wasn’t even my question.

Anyway, I saw someone else answered my question in a previous comment

  • +1

I bought one this morning (before OOS). Don’t have an immediate need but you guys all convinced me. Might actually put it with the swag for some over night camping trips. Wife and I in the swag, kids in this tent.

  • Amazon are trying to show off. Received my two at 1pm today.

    • Mine arrived within 24 hours of ordering.
