Super Mario World is my all time fav Mario 2D game.

Played it on SNES, GBA. 3DS. Wii U now i get to play it on the Switch.

Super Mario World is my all time fav Mario 2D game.

I would have to agree. I remember playing Super Mario All-Stars on the SNES (which I still have my original copy and console) and then replaying it on the GBA.

I still have my SNES and Mario All Stars. I wish I had a CRT to play it on, or a good upscaler. It looks pretty bad connected straight to my modern TV.

      • Could be worth picking up a small 14inch CRT. Can often get them for free on marketplace (make sure it has composite input).

        • Yeah I probably should. Might help trigger some nostalgia goodfeels from better times, cheaper than therapy. What I really want is a 30 inch Trinatron..

      • Retrotink works great.

My all-time favourite game, period. I think I've completed it (Star Road and all) over thirty times; I basically go back to it every year.

    • +4

I'll die on the hill of Mario Brothers 3 being a better game than World!

      • +5

        Second this, always preferred SMB3!

    • +1

I'm getting through it gradually (for the first time) on MiSTer.
Without any nostalgia (never played it before), it's a great game!

    • My skills have faded over the years. I find it really hard to beat these days.

i hate to say it but nintendos old school games service is getting beter and better I would even say its better than the competition because there actually continue to keep bringing more and more games to the libraries. Alot of you said goldeneye would never come to the service but here were are with goldeneye I think we will get all games eventually at this rate.

It's definitely improved, but I would argue that Nintendo have done a pretty poor job and are just barely creeping toward "acceptable" for this service, given the size of their retro libraries on Wii and Wii U compared to what we have on Switch, and the poor quality of emulation on their N64 games, lack of decent controller mapping for N64 titles (if you don't want to fork out for a perpetually-out-of-stock N64 Switch controller), etc. This service still feels like they're barely trying, considering their immense wealth and developer manpower.

We're now at the tail-end of the Switch's lifespan and although I hope to be wrong, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo yet again re-boot their retro game service and start this all over again, like we had with the Wii and Wii U.

Fan-driven / open-source emulation still is (and forever will be) the best way to play older Nintendo games. I'm not sure it's even fair to expect Nintendo to compete in that space anyway.

my hope is that what ever nintendos new system will be in the future I am hoping they have the services already licenced for that new device so it just continues over. its a good start though they are definatlly going in the right direction, yeah there are some bumps but if they continue to grow the library i think they will iron all that out.

        • +1

Agreed, I think it'd be crazy not to offer backwards compatibility, but then Nintendo are also one of the most money-grubbing companies out there so I won't hold my breath. They've got more competition in this space than ever though so hopefully that pushes them to be better and offer more. I'm sure that seeing emulators advertised for the Steam Deck by Valve did not make them happy.

Pretty bad value when you compare these to the SNES Online versions visual/audio wise, you're paying an even higher premium (2.5 times more than the SNES Online) to play sub par versions for some reason.

Where is the Golden Sun, fire emblem etc etc games…

    • +3

yeah totally correct the snes versions of super mario world and yoshis island are superior in the snes form, I guess super mario advance is an upgrade though

    • The SNES version of All Stars is already on NSO, it was added in September 2020. You will be able to try both when the GBA games are added, think of it like New Game+.

  • Pretty cool, although probably better off playing the original versions for Mario World and Yoshi's Island.

SMB2 is a straight upgrade though.

have they added a new boss? LVL 9000 Collingwoog Fan

    Very cool.

The only thing I'm after now is the official Nintendo N64 switch controllers… Always out of stock!

    • +1

You can blame the scalpers for that.

There's so many being resold on eBay for double/triple the price.

It's going to get to a point where the scalpers will give up as no one will buy them.

Same thing happen with the PS5, people kept scalping them until it got to a point where stock was abundant and scalpers were crying they couldn't sell anything off for profit anymore and lost money.

  • +2

I wish you could buy these games individually to keep forever like you can with Playstation and Xbox even if your not subbed.

    • -1

If you really want it you can get it on the older consoles loose. Theyre not expensive.

It was available on the 3DS E shop too before it got shut down after many years.

      • +2

They want it on Switch, not another console.

        • Switch!

        • Then that's what they're paying for

          • @idonotknowwhy: ? You can't buy it and just keep it.

            • -1

@ScruffTheJanitor: If they want it on the Switch, that's what they're paying a subscription for.

If they want to play it forever, they can get it on many other consoles.

Nobody is stopping them from owning a copy of the game forever.

  • the publishers have all done a dogshit effort at monetising their old games

how can you (profanity) it up this badly?

    • +1

They do it this way as too keep paying for each console generation.

      • :(

    • How did they (profanity) it up? Looks like people are paying for it, and it's low effort dumping roms into an emulator from their end…

  • +1

    Where is the bargain?

  • 'Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3' also added.

  • Hi guys,
Have no clue about how to purchase this for my son's bday without ongoing costs. He wants to play the bonus tracks that have been released on the Switch Super Mario Kart. What is the best value option please without ongoing membership? He doesn't play online as yet. Can I download digital version and he just play offline? Please help. Thank you
