About

MASTERCARD® FLIGHT DELAY PASS
In partnership with Worldwide Wallet issued with Westpac, BankSA, St.George, and Bank of Melbourne.

The number of people flying for leisure along with it, flight delays has increased over the years. Rather than let one upset your travel plans, safeguard your time with Mastercard Flight Delay Pass.

Should you encounter a delay for 120 minutes or more, you could be eligible for complimentary access to over 1,000 airport lounges in more than 100 countries with Mastercard Flight Delay Pass. Alternatively, if a lounge is unavailable, you could benefit from special dining offers at selected cafes and restaurants*. You are required to register for your flight prior to the flight's actual departure. Each leg of a multi-leg journey requires its own, separate, flight registration.

*The lounge access pass gives free access to select airport lounges, alternatively cardholders can use their lounge access pass to offset a dollar amount off the total bill at select dining options. This will vary based on location and affiliated LoungeKey Partners at the time. Click here for the list of LoungeKey airport lounge and/or dining options based on your departure airport, and the applicable terms and conditions. Once your flight has been registered, your LoungeKey pass will be sent to you via email and SMS in the event of a qualifying delay and can be used at any of the LoungeKey establishments at your departure airport.

WHO DOES THIS SERVICE COVER?
This exclusive service is complimentary for Worldwide Wallet cardholders. You can enjoy unlimited flight registrations on the Mastercard Flight Delay Pass program. In addition, you may invite one companion who is also travelling on the same flight — to join you in the lounge.

If you are under 18 years old, you must be accompanied by an adult (over 18 years of age) to enter participating lounges.

To make it simple. You need one Worldwide Wallet Mastercard from Westpac Group once you have one of those cards (I believe are free to get) you then register your flight here and if your flight has delay of 2 hour or more you get free access to the airport lounge (over 1,000 airport lounges & free food included)
I hope I made it simple.

  • Do you have to have booked the flight with your Westpac card? Or just register?

    • No, just register.

  • +2

This exclusive service is complimentary for Worldwide Wallet cardholders.
The worldwide wallet is their travel money Card, think this is only if you have that Card - https://www.westpac.com.au/international-travel/travel-money…

    • Yeah I saw that, I don't know how to fit that on title.
Edit: alvian came to the rescue

  • This seems pretty cool, has any one used it?

    • +12

I've used it through 28 Degrees (it's the same Flight Delay Service), and it's fantastic. If the flight is delayed by more than 2 hours, they automatically send you LoungeKey barcodes, and a list of the lounges where you can use them. You can also register your travelling companions.

Example 1: Last month I was travelling with spouse & 2 kids. Flight got delayed by 2.5 hours, and the first notification I received was the SMS and email from MasterCard with the 4 x lounge passes (this came before the airline SMS). The flight delay was then reduced to only 30 minutes, but we still got the lounge access.

Example 2: Another flight was gradually delayed by 2.5 hours (you know how it is… it's going to be delayed 30 minutes, then 45, etc). Received the 4 x LoungeKey passes as soon as the delay hit 2 hours. But at the same time, Qantas gave us food vouchers, so we didn't use the LoungeKey passes. The LoungeKey passes have a 3 month expiry, and they aren't locked to a specific airport, so we'll save them to use another time.

      • Do you need to pay by 28 degree card or register?

        • +1

You don't have to pay with 28 degrees - just register each flight on the 28 Degrees Flight Delay Pass website.
They just need the flight number and travellers names.

      • so only barcode is sufficient, or do we have to carry the physical master card to use them?

        • Barcode was sufficient for me.

To get the most out of this service, ensure you always book your flights through Jetstar

    • 😆 You are right on that

    • I’ve never had a Jetstar flight delayed .. especially not more than 2 hours. Any better suggestions?

      • +6

You obviously don’t fly Sh*tstar BNE > SYD or vice versa.

      • +4

Me either, they usually just cancel the flight

      • +1

I’ve never had a Jetstar flight delayed

What's your sample size? I fly a few times a year and I've had couple out of the 10-15 flights.
It actually worked out in my favour last time becasue I wasn't ready to come home and got a free extra night's accommodation on them.

        • Like 6 flights.. I don’t get to travel much.

    • +2

Not wrong! I’m sitting in Sydney Airport right now with an estimated 90 min delay on Jetstar flight to Cairns - OP’s post just reminded me that I have the same deal on my 28Degrees MC.
Registered now, wonder what lounge (Virgin?) they use in T2?

Edit - Bistro Bar or Rex Lounge in T2, so meh

      • +1

Bistro Bar gives you $36 worth of food I think.

    • +4

Newsflash!!! Jetstar sends Mastercard broke through flight delay lounge insurance

  • Any lounges relevant to Australian airports and/or airlines?

  • +6

Get this card if you fly Jetstar.

  • +5

I get this on my 28 degrees card

    • Doesn’t seem to be available with BankWest’s equivalent foreign transaction fee free cards.

    • One would need flights booked on the card to qualify for the pass?

      • +1

No need. Just need to pre-register your flights.

  • -1

Tried to use westpac cc and also debit card but keeps saying ' Please check that you have entered an eligible Mastercard card number.'

  • -3

I have my own existing westpac qantas credit card and also a debit card - tried both of them and still error message?

  • +2

Was everyone given two cards when they signed up?

    • +1

The pack comes with two cards. Both are linked to the same account, one is spare.

    • +1

Yes, the logic being you keep one in your room safe and if you get robbed or lose your wallet, you can lock the lost card on the app and keep using the spare card without incident or needing to close the account

      • Oh right I suppose that makes sense 😅

  • Is this a perpetual benefit or only during a period of time?

  • Is the Worldwide Wallet as go as Citibank Plus? I was going to apply Citibank but it’s closed to new customers.

I noticed Westpac doesn’t have ATM fees or conversion fee. I’m planning to use in Japan. I haven’t travelled overseas for a long time so not sure what’s the best card for travelling.

    • New customers can still apply for Citibank plus, before 20/5/23

      • I tried to find it on my iPhone but the site was almost blank so I gave up. Do u think this Westpac one is almost as good?

  • No fees… what's the catch?

    • Don’t know but it looks like a very good card for travelling with no ATM fees and conversion fee. Wonder if anyone else has experience with this card.

      • +3

You pay about 3-4% per transaction due to the horrible exchange rate. It's a complete con when they say no fees when they actually hide the fee within the exchange rate.

Much cheaper options out there like Revolut or Wise. .

        • Can't comment on this card but I was getting mad rates when withdrawing at atm in Japan. It worked out that I was getting 0.6% different between the spot rate.

          • @nightelves: That sounds great. Which card was it with?

          • +3

@nightelves: This. But watch out for the ATM trend of dynamic currency conversion. If the atm gives you a choice of withdrawing in the local country currency vs. Your card's home country currency, use local or they'll zap you with their own horrible exchange rates.

  • -1

If you already have LoungeKey (from Crypto.com Card) then does this offer any additional benefits?

    • +1

Probably not, except if you don’t have the CDC card that allows you to have a +1. In that case, if there is a flight delay >2h you’ll get the +1 through this deal

  • Does anyone know if the money loaded in are available instantaneously? I was thinking thay this might be a good debt mastercard option to give to my kids to manage their spending domestically and give me free flight delay insurance as well. I think the alternate card marketed by Flexischool charges something to activate and gets deactivated if you don’t use it for a year or something like that and this seems like a free option to give them a mastercard debit card.

    • Interested to know.

      • Instant

  • I think I'm missing something when trying to get one of these cards. Do you have to be an existing Westpac customer?

  • +2

So, could you just use this card to get the lounge access without putting any money on the card or transacting with it? I have other cards for that purpose but none with free airport access for delayed flights. Could be very handy

  • +1

Do you need to load money onto the card or just simply get the card and then register?

    • I think you have to load it with cash and use it like a debit card?

  • I have another question on the exchange rate used. It looks like if you only have AUD in the card and you purchase somehting in say USD, it will trigger this draw down sequence where the Mastercard's foreign exchange rate is used. (Based on what is descibed in Page 22 of the PDS). Has anyone tried this feature and is it the Mastercard exchange rate that cards like 28 Degree uses or a Mastercard exchage rate + Westpac's big fat margin? If it uses the Mastercard exchange rate, then it would be a really good card use for overseas cash withdrawal provided that you use these bank's ATM https://www.westpac.com.au/international-travel/access-money…

  • +3

I've done this with revolut and now they require it 2 hours before departure. What I do is just find any flight that looks like it will be delayed 2 hours any time that day or the day before prior to departure and register that one or even register a couple. The system doesn't care nor require proof .

Then you just get a lounge pass.

    • That's incredible! What a loophole. Will the lounge pass work for other airports? Let's say you register a flight delay in Adelaide can the lounge pass be used in Melbourne?

      • No it's limited to the airport you register.

I have an Amex Platinum charge that gets in to most lounges, but the lounge key has a few exceptions and/or if i have more than 1 or 2 guests.

    • Does it seem like you need to be on the Premium plan with Revolut to access this feature, right? What are some of the benefits of Revolut Premium that I might be missing out on?

      • Yes sorry forgot to mention this, I'm on the metal plan when they had their 50% sale. I use it a lot for large value international transfers for example to buy a car for import / overseas travel and also for the virtual cards (which probably are already included) but they let me create infinite trial memberships.

        • How do you do that? Do you have unlimited mobile numbers as well? Most of the websites require mobile number along with email these days.

          • @ninohax: Yeah amaysim or Kogan etc when they have free SIM card promos.

    • Don’t you need to show your boarding pass with your flight number to enter the lounge?

      • +1

You do, but the lounge doesn't care. It's just a generic lounge key pass, as far as they are concerned it's paid.

      • +1

I had a recent domestic flight that was delayed by about half an hour. A loungekey pass was issued to my pleasant surprise.

The cafe/restaurant scanned the QR code and asked for the flight number, but did not ask to see my boarding pass.

    • I am currently attempting to do this. May I ask how you find all of these flights? Is it when you are at the airport and can see all the flights, and then select the ones that you think might be delayed?

      • +3

just go to whatever airport website you are at, then look at tomorrow's flights. some will already be delayed. Look for flights that have an expected departure time of one hour later, or keep an eye on those that look like they are going to breach.

        • Does this work on lounges for different terminal? Say jetstar delay in T4 but I would like to use in T2 international.

          • @jingwen91: In theory, yes.
But in practice, it's often difficult/impossible to move between terminals because of security restrictions and the time it takes to travel between them. Keep in mind that the lounges are almost always 'airside' (i.e. after security), so you can't go to the international lounge without passing through immigration.

            • +1

@dtgold: Ahh thanks. I’ve got a t4 lounge access from a previous Jetstar delay and was hoping to use in the international terminal for my upcoming trip.
I will report back if it works.

              • @jingwen91: Oh, that will work, as long as you have an international boarding pass, and your lounge pass hasn't expired.
I thought you were wanting to use the international lounge while waiting for your T4 delay.

            • @dtgold: He shouldn't make it to immigration. He should be stopped at the entrance to the international departures zone where boarding passes are checked.

  • Is this working for anyone? I put in a card number and the box disappears but nothing happens…

    • +1

In my experience the website is temperamental across different browsers. Try another browser and/or another computer.

  • Just signed up. Not sure why 1 got 2 cards?

  • +1

Registered for this and travelled to Sydney over weekend. My onward trip departure was delayed more than an hour after we boarded the flight due to thick fog in Sydney. Still got the lounge passes in email although couldn't use them because I was already onboard. The return trip the flight was on-time, but Google was showing the arrival's delayed by more than 10 hours, even before the flight departure. And they still sent me lounge passes in email. I still couldn't use them as I asked the staff and moved our flight to an earlier one as we were already at the airport and there's a flight departing on 30 mins than the late hour flight we booked.

So we now have 4 lounge key passes that we didn't use among me and the wife. The email says the passes are valid for 3 months and you need a boarding pass that matches the name I
the email to redeem the passes. Will try to use them if we travel within the next 3 months.

    • +2

Could you update us on how that goes? Curious to know thank you.

    • +1

As long as you have a boarding pass that matches your name, it doesn't have to be the same flight you got delayed. I got my delay pass last week since my flight got delayed and I got rebooked to a different airline. Used my boarding pass with the rebooked airline and had successfully entered the lounge in sydney.

  • You get 2 x cards (but one account). I'm travelling with wife + 2 kids, so 4 people in total. I've registered 2 different passengers on each card… "primary passenger" and "your guests". Do you think if we're delayed I'll get 4 passes?

    • Anyone knows about this? As it only allows us to add 1 guest? So do we have to do 2 separate registration if travelling in 4 as family? Also, do we need to carry the physical card in case we need to claim the lounge/benefit?

  • 16 flights registered for my upcoming round the world trip. Plus 2 more that I haven't booked yet. There were three that I couldn't register; one where no lounge was available, and two Air Serbia flights where it didn't give a specific reason.

  • For those who are wondering, you don't have to put money into card or make any transaction. As long as your card is activated and you have registered your flight in advance, you can get an email on the departure date saying your flight is either on time or you will receive your loungekey pass. Now I am curious how would mastercard know when you are actually boarding the flight you have registered.

  • Anyone having trouble registering for the travel pass? I inputted in the number and hit submit but nothing comes up after that.

    • One month after your experience, and yes, still a blank space after hitting submit.

    • I was able to register on 17 Oct. Try another browser?

  • Does delay on transit included? Or just the first leg
