I feel it's died down. The Qantas lounges were a real loss.

More seriously, I've been using the paper loyalty cards recently at my local and haven't missed the apps much at all. Apart from their discounts, all the apps seem to give us is a service charge. Pre-orders are slightly useful (very useful at the Qantas lounge) but can be pretty hard to time.
A+ deal. Got a Latte and Matcha Latte free. Better yet it gave me the second one free even though it was a higher price. No hassles.
I can imagine the pitch for this
"So, we just convince people to download an app, then see if any of their local places are on it, I mean if they're any good, they're not looking for business so they probably won't be, but at least a few people will then go out of their way to get a free coffee from your place, even though they don't know it, don't ask us why, and then you give them twice as much coffee as they pay for, and you give us a cut. Please sign up for our app."
I used cafes that on are on Skip for convenience as I walk in and the coffee is usually there waiting. So cafes on Skip win my business vs cafes not on Skip.
If everyone uses the Skip app to skip the queue, is there even a queue to skip?

I'm somewhat surprised Skip survived covid, but maybe that's just because I keep seeing their cup in the cupboard and wondering if my account still works after 3 years of zero use.
