I have the cheaper Cuckoo rice cooker and the Panasonic. The Panasonic sits at the back of the cupboard as I replaced it with the Cuckoo, which cooks awesome rice.

    • The panasonic CN188 is much better, but also slightly more expensive than the cheapest cuckoo.

      • What about versus the Cuckoo CRP-P1009S?

        • I think it's way overpriced and I personally don't like pressure cookers for rice. For $200 vs $350, the CN188 will cook perfect rice and also do some slightly more complicated rice dishes like congee or chicken rice. It's not perfect though (it struggles to keep rice moist when there's too many other ingredients in there like tomatoes and veges) and my suggestion would be to get an induction, non pressure cooker rice cooker like the zoji or Tiger offerings.

I like both my cuckoos so much the ring tone on my phone is the "multicook has been completed" message lol.

For those complaining it's too expensive - and don't need the pressure cooker option - the standard Cuckoo rice cooker is $169.

  • These are fancy!
I've got a Panasonic rice cooker that's over 20years old, still going strong, and that was fancy compared to the basic On/Off/Keep Warm rice cooker that my parents had.
I'm kinda tempted to upgrade :)

HIGHLY RECOMMEND IF YOU LOVE YOUR RICE

Got the 10 cup version and upgraded from the basic Tiger single button rice cooker

First time I cooked rice with it for my Asian parents, they thought it was AMAZING. Rice was super fluffy

They loved it so much they bought themselves one the next day and convinced a number of their friends to buy one too

For reference, use the Glutinous Rice setting for jasmine rice. I have to use ~20% less water than what I normally use for my old Tiger

For the Japanese Koshihikari rice from Costco, I’ve found Sushi Rice is the better setting

  • I've had a Cuckoo for, I dunno,15 years maybe. Has operated faultlessly.

  • I use a cuckoo at home… Don't have any complaints.

It's a rice cooker at the end of the day, and it does just that very nicely.

  • This basic one is not on sale ($130 instore when on sale).

Is it because they are different kinds of rice cooker?

Any quick summary to outline the differences (other than size) between them? $200+ to $600+ is quite a price difference.

    • Okay, it seems they are more than rice cooker, but double up as pressure cooker, the more expensive ones can also bake and cook meat.

So, if you just want a decent rice cooker, the basic one should suffice, but not currently on sale.

  • I need to upgrade from an old hitachi that’s falling apart. Which one of the cuckoos is worth getting? And where is a good place to buy the zojirushi ones?
