  • Discount applies to other Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier models. Anyone know if 'international' model is somehow different?

  • I want to get one for my office but filters are $50 and cant be reused / cleaned, can any one recommend a Ozbargain Air Purifier option that works out cheaper in the long run?

    • Based on previous posts others have purchased non-genuine filters from Aliexpress

  • Doesn't have a HEPA filter

    • They've justified why, and I'd agree if it's still 0.3 microns and 99.97% capture — is there an actual issue with it being non-HEPA in your mind?

      • https://sgeas.unimelb.edu.au/engage/air-cleaner-guide says to look for a HEPA H13 or 14 and to avoid "Ionisers, plasma/ozone/photocatalytic oxidation/precipitators and UV purification". I suspect this model has one of those - although it's unclear from their brochure.

        • According to https://cache-igetweb-v2.mt108.info/uploads/images-cache/133… only top 2 models have negative ion generator. I am led to believe this creates ozone and that's bad from what I have heard so far. I got myself 4 Lite model without the ion tech.

          • @CoolHwip74: Good that it doesn't have an ionizer. But I'm wondering how it works then. It uses "electrostatic technology" according to https://www.mi.com/global/product/xiaomi-smart-air-purifier-… which requires particles to be charged. How are they charged without an ionizer?

Also that table says "H13" but that can't be right, because that's a HEPA standard.

            • @fredblogs: I think electrostatic technology they refer to for the compact model is in reference to this only:
"Xiaomi's filter uses melt-blown PP fibres with electrostatic technology. With greater space between fibres, larger volumes of air are able to pass through the filter." So to me that means they make the filter with electrostatic technology. Ionizer is separate and only available on the top 2 models.

I had a look at several air purifiers and there are a lot of confusing terms and marketing BS. I settled on 4 Lite because it's cheap, can do 95% of what the best and most expensive ones do, and filters are relatively cheap and not hard to find.

              • @CoolHwip74: Do you notice a difference in air quality?

              • @CoolHwip74: HEPA is melt-blown as well. Electrostatic tech is similar to the material used in most n95/p2 masks. Problem with electrostatic tech is it loses efficacy over time and in humid conditions. But if the meltblown fibers filter to 0.3microns, the electrostatic charge is mainly beneficial for sub 0.3micron particulates.

        • The problem with non HEPA filters is the lack of certification. ASHRAE stipulate that all HEPA filters must be tested for filtration and air flow and results indicated on the filter - though that doesn't actually mean anything for HEPA sold outside of the US. None of the filters sold by xiaomi and many others are certified to Australian standards - so a xiaomi ultra fine filter vs a xiaomi hepa doesn't mean much.

  • I just purchased one then noticed that I got the EU version. Can’t find info on what the difference is between EU and International versions. Anyone know?

  • +1

Excuse my ignorance but the discussion above is going over my head. Is it worth going for the 4 lite over this if I'm just looking to reduce the dust in the air of a room?
