  • Computer Alliance must be selling a lot of GPUs this morning!. I picked myself up a 4070 too.. same price as this but went the Ventus X2 OC to fit in my case

    • +5

Why pay that when you can get the same thing in a 3060ti for hundreds less?

      • -1

its the VRAM that counts for a lot of people. 8GB is not enough for decent LLM AI toys.
12GB is a good sweet spot.

  • good price! hope there is a bit more to come! apparently Nvidia have halted production on these as the sales are so bad..

    • wonder who's fault is that haha

  • tempted to upgrade my 2070 super…..hmmm

    • +4

I'm in the same boat but my monitor is only 1440p and don't intend on going 4k.

I do do (hehehe.. do-do) PCVR though so the card would just be a FPS boost in my eyes (literally).

      hmmm…….

  • They have an MSI 4070 for $818

    • +5

May wish to avoid this MSI Ventus model due to inadequate vrm cooling https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkVqLK_mGCo

      • Yup heatsink makes zero contact with the VRM.

Technically in spec, and it runs quiet, but you'd want to undervolt or maybe try requesting a thermal pad from them.

Pretty sure this went on a fire sale (pun intended) in the UK.

Regardless, the 4070 can and will go cheaper despite NVIDIA flirting with the idea of winding down supply.

        • Generally speaking tech always get cheaper with time. This isnt a bad buy if you need to upgrade now and were going to buy D4 anyway, which costs $120 by itself.

Always best to wait as long as you can. Seeing I am still running a 1080ti, my time is getting closer!

          • @Whilezee:

Generally speaking tech always get cheaper with time.

            No kidding

This isnt a bad buy if you need to upgrade now and were going to buy D4 anyway, which costs $120 by itself.

The trick is not to get sucked into MSRP, as it would probably go for $70-$80 in a shop. I wouldn't value it over $50.

            • @jasswolf: Imo Blizzard control the price of their products pretty tightly on release.

              • @stinkychicken: I understand all of that, but that's eventually going to get them taken to court by multiple consumer and competition bodies around the world.

PS5 version has already gone on sale here multiple times, and is currently 25% cheaper.

  • Is this a good card and price? Looking to upgrade from AMD RX 580 for Machine Learning

    • yup the 12GB VRAM is gonna let you have some fun with that.

  • Owning a 3070 at the moment, is it worth upgrading to 4070?

    • Same 8GB vs 12GB

    • +3

Not really, unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket. Think it was a 10-20% performance increase and only an extra 4gb of memory. Id wait for the 5xxx seriers.

      • I guess the 4070Ti is probably not worth it either?

        • +1

For your situation, unless you have the cash to go 4090, nothing is worth upgrading to

4000 series is a write off and since Jacket Man is currently printing money with the AI and data center cards, 5000 series is looking shaky as well

AMD are comfortable offering less performance and features for less money with the niche of higher VRAM

They will make more money redesigning the PS5 Pro APU than working on a proper 7700/7800 which is the mid-range they skipped to release the garbage 7600

Nothing will change in the GPU market until Intel releases Battlemage sometime in 2024

          • @Look Up: Thanks for the word of wisdom (or should I say intelligence lol?).

I have considered 4090 as well given it's the only thing that actually delivers on the p/p ratio from this generation.

However I don't have a need for such powerhouse … yet with my current setup (27" 1440p monitor). I'll also need to upgrade my CPU & PSU if I go with a 4090 given they'll bottleneck the heck out of it (5600X and 650W), which probably not the upgrade I sought after currently either.

I guess patience is virtue then, we'll see what's the next generation of cards will look like and hopefully Intel can disrupt the status quo with Battlemage.

          • @Look Up: By the time Battlemage comes out and preforms like a 7800XT, 7800XT/4070Ti would be cheaper and a lot more appealing.

So nope, I wouldnt wait for battlemage either.

  • thanks for this! I've got a 2070S Windforce, so I've upgraded now.

Getting a LOT of messages about the diablo code…

You can claim a code from the manufacturer, then use that code with NVidia to finally redeem the game code

    https://www.msi.com/Promotion/NV-2023-Diablo-IV-for-RTX-40-s…
    https://www.asus.com/events/info/activity_diabloIV-bundle/
    https://www.aorus.com/event/diablo-4

Note Australia is under the APAC region

and yes, the process is a bit of a pain.

I contacted Nvidia to confirm and support agent told me the bundle code should come from the retailer. I provided Computer Alliance as retailer and nvidia confirmed they were NOT a 'participating retailer'.

I came back to this post and followed the link to go via gigabyte and their redemption process and have received an email from them saying it will take 15-20 business days to process.

Anyone received a code from gigabyte? Did it actually take 15-20 business days?
D4 comes out in 5 days and part of the reason I pulled the trigger was free D4 as I was going to buy it anyway which made the card more attractive.

Now I either have to wait an extra month to play? Or cough up for the game on release? Why does this process take so long?

  • Still haven't received the code, also submitted on 31-5

    • FB chat reply :
We are processing them as they come, however it can take up to 15-20 working days. It hasn't taken that long so far. Keep an eye out and it should be processed soon.

      That’s too long.

      • Finally got it.
Raised a support ticket on the main gigabyte site, they said it was processed on the 6th but I never received the email so they sent it to me directly

  • I got my code in 4 days
