PSA: Bpay Credit Card Payments on Beemit Have Been Removed

Beemit has updated the T&Cs and no longer accept credit cards for BPAY payments.

This was used by many to earn Qantas points for spending on rent/ATO/HECS.

For those who earned, will you close your account?

  • Where is the bikies option?

  • +6

What else can you use beem it for then?

    • +4

Instant transfer money to a bank not on NPP, e.g. HSBC for 2% cashback but no money sitting on it normally.

      • -1

Can just take cash out and deposit in bank too

(yes I used to do that for a while, when I used to use Debit cards, now only CC's and also HSBC is so annoying for changing phones - changing like master app that generates passwords/logins etc.)

  • +1

Never used beemit, but I have been beaming with the current cold weather.

  • +18

You can thank the genius who went viral on tiktok telling people about it for that

  • +6

Wow get rid of the only good thing on Beemit, time to delete and move on I guess

  • Oh no! The only function I used was to pay government and water bills with credit card. No point to have it any more.

  • +3

Easy Zip it as usual,$0 Bpay charges for me (and upto 30 days extra for payment charge to CC too) - just need to be visa/mastercard CC/DC

From memory you just need to have Credit limit of >$1000 (which you can ask to be reduced later)

    • Credit check though :(

      • +3

Zip is worth the CC check given you can use zip to funnel the CC sign up bonuses

        • Is it just a one time thing? Credit check to open the account then nothing after?

          • +2

@caustic birch: Credit Check/enquiry is always a one time thing (unless you are closing and reopening a new account -to which I aint sure about)

But the credit line stays open under your profile (aka just treat the Credit part of it just as a credit card). But $0 account fees, and can use literally anywhere where Visa credit is used (instore or online).

Anyway It is by far the safest and easiest way to get around the Government spend requirements that CC bonus do not honor points on.

            • @USER DC: Probably worth copping the one time credit check then. Is the $1000 limit restrictive or can you pay a $1000 bill then pay your zip account off and pay another $1000?

Edit: nevermind - misread the linked deal

              • +3

@caustic birch: Umm if you're talking about paying bill with BPay there is $2.50 charge (for users with account limit of $1000 or less). $2.5 charge can be payed by any visa/MasterCard so 2.50 is still better than paying e.g. $10 surcharge on other websites for higher bills

So for them max payment once would be 997.75 i think, for users with account limit >1000$ theyll pay Whatever bill amount is.

Once paid they would need to wait for payment to settle, (bpay is instantly settled on zip account, other merchant payments 1-3 business days)

Then once settled payment user can pay early all amount and bring the zip credit limt back to original level ( and repeat cycle)

                • @USER DC: Thanks heaps for all the info. Definitely the best option going round at the moment then.

                • @USER DC: Don't you have to pay them one time fee of up to $99 for credit above 1000?

                  • @capslock janitor: ?? Umm I did not have to, have had $1000+ limit from them for a while and been zip customer for a long long time too

                    • @USER DC: O, are you on the "Zip Money" tier for 1K+?

                      • @capslock janitor: No, i got zip pay only

The only increase i got snitched with is
Increased monthly repayment of $80 min ( from $40) , and monthly fee of $9.99 (from $6.99)

That's just monthly fee increased when a repayment is due

Otherwise no extra charges laid, nor any interest etc

    • Ah true - thanks for the reminder. Phew.

Problem is paying off large bills with Zip – they locked my account last time. Had to ring the call centre 🙄

    Gonna miss it.
Paid about 70k over the last 2yrs

Man I only got one body corp payment on this and they closing it already….

  • +5

I thought they removed using credit card for bpay but looks like the whole bpay button is gone! Yet they are still advertising bpay with beem it!

    https://www.beemit.com.au/bpay

    Absolutely appalling behaviour.

    • The BPAY button has now reappeared in my Beem. Credit cards are greyed out.

  • Aaand I just signed up for a CBA awards credit card to pay my rent with bpay on beem. Need to spend $2500 per month and $5000 over 3 months, and without my rent payments I'll never reach that much (other than buying gift cards). Do I just pay via sniip and cop the 1.5% fees? The zip method might be too much, I just need an easy temporary fix

  • Why can't you just pay bolls directly with your CC to get the points?

    • +1

No points when paying govt bodies

      • Back to Sniip ig

        • Was so great to finally get around card fees (as well as the card restrictions for the minimum spend ineligibility for gov payments) paying bills when beem originally came out + using auspost postbillpay paypal for the rest.
So does that mean using credit cards for bpay weren't part of beem's original business model? Sniip must be laughing at this whole fiasco.

    • +1

      you mean zip

      • Yeah , thanks.

  • You can now do the same thing with Zip

    • Just got rejected lol. Do they actually do credit checks now? Must've saw all my churning, even then had no issues getting an Afterpay account.

Also aren't there limit issues with zippay anyway ie have to physically wait months or years for them to slowly raise it for you? So wouldn't work if you have 4 figure bills to pay every quarter.

      • Clearly they do a check in the application process. And they didn't seem to like my history of credit enquiries either.

        Disappointing but oh well.

        • Yeah I only even bothered trying after years of not using them cos of this whole beem fiasco and had one last bill to pay for this quarter that I should've simply paid earlier with hindsight.

  • +1

Did they reinstate it? Bpay button back, able to select credit card, transaction succeeded and payment taken from account!

    • Not allowing me to select credit cards for BPay.

Enjoy it while you can :)

      • hmm, it's still there for me! maybe I should pay off extra while I still can - it's a CBA mastercard cc

        • Not working for me either trying to pay my Body Corp rates which I always used to do via Beem. Just says ‘credit cards can’t be used here’ when you select the card. Debit cards seem to work though.

        • -1

If it's CBA you can even try just doing it through your online netbank (esp if the bpay biller already accepts credit cards if you check here. I was surprised to see it when I temporarily held a CBA card inbetween churns since I previously simply assumed bpay rejected all non-debit card or savings acc methods.

          • @johnjones8: I don’t think you get points for those payments though

            • @JHoliday: I paid rent and I suppose it got categorised under the 'all other purchases' and got 1 point for every $1!

              • @sakurakiks: Via BPAY in your bank’s internet banking?

                • @JHoliday: It was all through beem app bpay, not bank app/internet banking

I had an ANZ black rewards cc 1-2 years ago and paid rent with beem bpay and that got me points too

Honestly haven't tried bpay with cc through the banks themselves to test if they give points/work at all!

            • @JHoliday: In most (if not all) cases you wouldn't get points through regular online banking BPay.

I got points for BPay with an ANZ credit card in the past, but I assume that was a glitch.

            • -1

@JHoliday: Never cared about the points for the minimum spend portion since I'm a churner and usually stop using the card as soon as I hit the 3/4/5k etc targets.

          • +3

@johnjones8: Most online banking allows BPay via credit card. (Presumably Amex remains the exception.)

In most (if not all) cases this will be treated as a type of payment that is not eligible for points or minimum spend.

The benefit of using Beem was that it was treated as a regular credit card transaction that earned points and qualified for minimum spend.

Unfortunately this option has now been removed from the app, though apparently is somehow still available for sakurakiks.

            • -2

@UrMumsOnlyFan: Yep I understand it better since the old days and plan my bill payments and card applications accordingly now haha. Also as a churner I've never cared too much about the smaller amount of points from the minimum spend portion, obviously this would be different if you have business expenses BAS or holding your rewards points card long term.

    • i tested waterbill and it went thru

      • Paying with a credit card in Beem? Or was it a debit card?

      • How much was the bill? I've managed to still pay for electricity bill ~$65 with a CBA credit card but car registration which was ~$960 didn't allow me to choose the same credit card.

        • Which state are you in? QLD gov doesn't accept credit cards for their rego bpay so might be similar situation in your case?

          • @vawiyoci: ACT. Have previously worked with beem it.

  • Tried paying Bpay using a cc but ‘internal server error’ message appeared. After installing the recent app update, cc option completely greyed out and prompted to add debit card instead. For those who still have the older app version, perhaps could give it a try and might go through.

    • And try with smaller amounts. I noticed you get that error if trying to pay large amounts

      • Does it work still with CC?

  • +1

Has anyone worked out what can be used??

I was hoping to pay my council rates through a new credit card sign up.

Read through the thread but it looks a bit confusing, I do have zip pay still but I was going to cancel that because I haven't used it in like over a year.

  • I tried paying a BPay bill via Snipp and Zip, both of them didn't allow the biller code :(

    Anyone have any other suggestions?
