As we approach Memorial Day, a time of year dedicated to remembering and honoring the brave men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedoms, we at MyHeritage believe it’s important to make their stories accessible to all. That’s why we are thrilled to announce that, in honor of Memorial Day, we are offering free access to our extensive collection of military records from May 25–30, 2023.
Our 83 million military records, which are part of our vast collection of historical records, provide invaluable insights into the lives of those who served their country in times of war and peace. They allow us to piece together the stories of their service, honor their memories, and connect on a deeper level with our past.

Our collection includes draft, enlistment, and service records, pension records, and military biographies from various countries around the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and many more. These records can reveal a wealth of information about your ancestors, such as their rank, unit, date of enlistment and discharge, physical characteristics, and even their next of kin.

Not bad, but I think most Australian records are already publicly available via vwma.org.au and the national archives.

This is a quite extensive military record collection. As we all know Australia was built with migration from all over the world.(Unless someone it's Aboriginal). So I thought this would be in the interest of lots of people since most probably someone's great grandfather or great great grandfather went at one of those countless wars.

Yep just looked up my Great Grandfather. Royal Irish Rifles 1914-1920. I've actually got a photo of him and me. I was 5 months old and he died (of natural causes at 93yo) 5 months after the photo was taken.

EDIT: Wow after looking up the battle history of the Royal Irish Rifles it seems I'm pretty lucky to be here. It explains why he is also listed as Royal Irish Fusiliers, since the Rifles got so decimated they were absorbed into the Fusiliers.

A pretty impressive cataloguing of war service, war casualty, POW and conscription/enlistment records.

There's some really old and/or obscure records in there too: British army index 1787, Waterloo medal recipients 1815, Boer War casualties from 1899 - 1902, Austro-Hungarian WWI deaths, list of Belarusian partisans during WW2, Soviet WW2 POWs in Germany, etc.

It's definitely something that can be of interest to plenty of other demographics besides Australians of Anglo-Celtic descent.

  • My Grandfather cant be found in any of these records, but i have found him in others.

    British Army 1943-1953 (or so)

  • how recent are the records for privacy?
