Home Floor Tiles Leaving Foot Marks after Mopping When Dry

Hey guys

I must be entering the wrong keywords in google, but my kitchen and lounge room share off white floor tiles, while easy to clean with a mop when dry, my footprints from my house slippers leaves a light dirt imprint.

My indoor thongs are not super dirty but it leaves a light footprint of dirt on the tile then I have to mop the floor again.

Previously I used a manual mop, hot water and anti-bacterial floor cleaner.

I purchased a steam mop and while that made my life easier cleaning the floor, my foot prints and guests foot prints still leaves a mark when the tiles are dry.

I cleaned my thongs but over time the light dirt foot prints comes back and it's a never ending cycle of mopping.

Just wondering if there's a product out there to add to the water that protects the tile from leaving such foot marks?

  • Time for new tiles

    • Is it the tile material?

Is there a reason you don't wear these?

I use vinegar for mopping my tiles.
    Try that

  • Looks like there's a lot of dirt stuck in your grout. Maybe your slippers are picking that up and spreading it around. You might want to get in there and clean it out.

  • Are you sure you are washing the grease off completely? If the tiles are anything like the grout you need to give it a real good clean.

Get some exclusively indoor shoes like slides.

That'd dirt etc. It's on your feet and shoes.

Nothing you put on the tiles will stop you walking dirt over them.

Do like the Macedonians and shoes off.

the tiles dont leave footprints, its you

  • Wear socks. That way you are buffing the tiles while you walk.

    Tiles could be oily.

So a clean floor and clean tongs don't leave marks…. I think you're onto something here ;)

  • Glossy tiles are the worst for this. But as others have said, it’s your shoes/feet that need cleaning, not the tiles.

I would try a different cleaning product.

My guess is the remaining cleaning product residue is leaving a light film that is capturing the foot marks.

  • Maybe don't mop as often. Just let it be.

  • Oh man these sort of shiny tiles are the bane of my existence.

Constant mopping, any bit of dirt shows up and any small amount of oil from the kitchen gets spread around The entire house

Tldr: the tiles are the problem

  • Well white tiles will show all the dirt. Perhaps you could try a test patch to see what cleaning technique has the greatest effect? At least some of that dirt is from your shoes.

  • I am having same problem.. did u find a solution.. ive tried everything.. its been 6months and i cant get rid of it..

    • I purchased a wood floor cleaner solution/add on liquid to water from woolies that I add to my steam mop water chamber, only around 10 to 15 ml and it has minimised my footprints and others a bit. Not fully, I assume the solution left a film or something behind that repels such dirt from sticking to tiles.
