LG OLED Turning off Which May Be Linked to a Webos Update?

Hi all. I have a LG BX 65" OLED65BXPTA and have had major issues with it this morning. It lauches to the source device (tried Fetch TV and Apple TV) and will play as expected for around 20 to 30 seconds, but then launches webOS and switches off after 20 to 30 seconds. Can any other owners advise if they are having similar issues?

There is a hard reset option but this requires access to the on/off switch located below my TV and as it is wall mounted and I have a soundbar wall mounted directly below, makes it quite difficult. I have tried to change webOS to basic, reset to factory defaults but it keeps turning off while applying settings….so frustrating!!!

I have spoken directly with LG support and all they've asked for is proof of purchase, which I've since provided.

I'd appreciate any feedback πŸ™

I'm guessing they are going to advise you to hard reset it.

Try removing the power from the TV for a couple of minutes and try again.

Also try disconnecting the internet, aka turn off the modem and see if that helps.

If not, its basically a hard reset and then a warranty call if nothing else fixes it.

i just googled the product code you provided + 'keeps turning off' google spat out like 10 searches with 30 things you can try,
have you done this or tried any fixes? give it a crack

    • Yeah sorry, i tried a heap of things before creating this post. I wasn't being lazy without doing upfront research 🀣. I'd say its a warranty issue, which they'll attempt to get out of as it has a one year warranty….I'll fight hard with Australian Consumer Law. It may be easiest to hassle JB, where I purchased it from.

LG have replaced B7s with bad burn in in the past way outside of warranty, I have a 2yo 77C1 and my remote was effed and they sent a free one so let us know how it goes

It might be trying to do an over the air firmware update. Try turning off the internet connection (as JimmyF suggests). Also try turning off the quick start option.

LG have just phoned me back and as I've already run through troubleshooting steps, they’ve organised a technician to rock up at my place in the next couple of days even though it's out of warranty. Great customer service so far. Samsung could learn a thing or two from them as they are horrific to deal with!

    Thanks everyone

  • Had the panel replaced after they tried boards and power unit. Back up and running perfectly
