  • Can this phone unclock for free and use for other network?

    • Not through Telstra. Maybe through a 2nd party but you still will probably have a minimal cost to unlock.

      • Google is the best to find the answer.

Thanks to Wazzo from Whirlpool and tweakradje from XDA!!!

If anyone wants to unlock their telstra prepaid Galaxy 5, this method works:

Use superoneclick to root. Choose "root" NOT "shell root".

need to put the adb app on your phone.

      http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17148825&post…

It dumps a file off the phone on sdcard, the unlock code is actually stored in plaintext. If you download a freeware program called Hexed for PC, it's all you need to search for the hex location to get the code.

      hexed:

You're not modding anything on the phone, so it's safe.

Can be combined with the $10 credit back with Amex, however the screen resolution really sucks.

    • Hi how can you combine this with the $10 credit card with Amex?

    CPU: 600mhz
    OS: Android 2.2 Froyo
    Internal mem 170 MB
RAM 256 MB (Accessible: 184 MB) SDRAM
    1200 mAh Li-ion battery
    2.8 in (71 mm) 240 x 320 px QVGA screen

    CM7 mod capable

    • Needs more RAM and a bigger screen. But not too bad for a $40 phone, but i wouldn't pay any more than that

  • Like a $100 used car that is licensed and still runs, you have to say this is cheap.
Not sure why you'd want a smartphone so short on flash memory (for apps) and pixels though.

Maybe use it as a disposable tracking device?

There are tonnes of uses for a Android phone. My old Garmin Nuviphone now serves as a remote control and wireless mouse for a HTPC, and occasionally a car MP3 player and navigation device (thanks to built in maps there's no need for 3G connection).

      • i was trying to find an android craps game yesterday and nearly every single one i found was 320x240

      • I'm sure there are a ton of uses. Just not as your every-day general-purpose smart-phone.
I like the idea of an HTPC remote, but isn't the battery life a huge problem for something like that?

The phone can last quite a while if a SIM card is not inserted and is not using cellular connection.

Also you can use Tasker to automatically turn the wifi off when it's not in use, and even turn the phone off at night when you're asleep.

Of course you can always dock the phone to the HTPC after every use, to keep the battery topped up.

I use an Android HDMI Stick with my TV, and have bought a wireless keyboard with trackpad to control the device, but I like your idea of using a phone as a remote. Would you know if there is a free app for android to control the android device using phone ?
