  • 5825U - is this last gen?

I think the Intel ones are the one to get - although probably priced a little high so wait for a sale. Slightly heavier (100 grams heavier) but latest gen i5 and i7 with FHD webcam and PCIe 4.0

    Thankfully all OLED non-touch

    • Yes, 5825U released in Jan 22, so over a year old now.

Mate, the price has gone back to normal (up by $100) for i5 model since a few hours back when I replied to you in another thread. But these models are much better without the touch screens. For only $100 more, i7 is available which is a no brainer.

      • Did you buy?

        • Bought the i7 one.

          • @buddysayshi: Nice! I'm keen on the i7 but still deciding

            • @cyrax83: I don't think it will be discounted any time soon being the latest models. i7 goes for $2,099 but available at the moment for $1,899.

                • @cyrax83: Yes very fast processor with good battery life, not as good battery life as U series chips. This CPU with 14 cores (8E, 6P) and 20 Threads in total is a beast.

                • +1

@cyrax83: Note all those 13th gen processor have a much higher max TDP than the Ryzen processor, which is only 15w. Unfortunately based on feedback that high TDP may help provide a good Passmark score but it effects the cooling performance of the laptop and battery life.

                  • @shellshocked: Yep i noticed that. Beefy cpu's but at the cost of heat and battery

                  • @shellshocked: What do you find is the best balance at the moment between performance and battery for these laptops? Ryzen? Intel 12th gen? Intel 13th gen?

                    • +1

@cyrax83: At the moment the Ryzen CPUs have much better performance per watt. 12th and 13th gen mobile, like desktop are prone to high TDPs. Intel's ageing 10nm architecture just can't keep up with TSMC's fabs. You only have to look at Intel ARC to see what the max TDPs of the 12th and 13th gen CPUs are. They really only have E cores because the P cores take up to much die space on the existing architecture.

                      • @shellshocked: I think I'll wait for ryzen 4th gen. It's only a few months away

          • @buddysayshi: is the i7 one touchscreen?

      • FYI been working with an ebay seller who is advising later today they will have the i7 model for $1,679
Reckon it's a buy? My only concern is what the battery life and heat is like with the i7-13700H

"Using the laptop at 50% brightness with the whisper fan speed mode, users can expect around 4-5 hours of battery life, which is a decent figure considering the power of the processor and the high-quality screen. However, the OLED screen’s brightness has a direct impact on battery life, so users will have to adjust their usage accordingly to conserve battery life."

I think maybe it's worth waiting for Ryzen 7 4th gen. The i7 is a beast but that battery life isn't great

          Asus Zenbook 14X OLED 14.5" 120Hz i5 16GB RAM Laptop - Inkwell Gray $1,449. I think it's really good price.

          • @buddysayshi: Good price but these H series chips are so power hungry. Battery only 4-5 hours it seems :(

            • @cyrax83: If you are happy with 8-10 hours of battery life in normal office usage then go for Intel, otherwise wait for laptops with AMD Ryzen latest processors.

              • @buddysayshi: https://youtu.be/Oje-z5ygI2s?t=473

another review says 8-10 hours which to me is acceptable!

                • @cyrax83: That was under 120Hz, if on 60Hz, the battery life could be even better.

                  • @buddysayshi: apparently the tests were on 40% screen brightness

                    • @cyrax83: I will be happy if I can get around 7-8 hours of battery life with the processing power of i7 with decent screen brightness setting. This OLED screen will be more vibrant with punchy colors even at low screen brightness compared to the IPS screen.

            • @cyrax83: Can't we just limit the *maximum process state to mitigate the issue?

              • @O O: Not sure, btw your link is not working.

              • @O O: Kinda defeats the point if you have to throttle performance down

  • Man it doesn’t get much better even at higher price points. 2.8K, 90Hz, decent RAM and processor….

    For basement prices.

  • How legit is this website for purchasing?

    • +1

      Centrecom is 100% legit

  • Originally bought the UM3402YAR-KP563W but called them up to change to the UX3404VA-M9026W and paid the difference.

The UM3402YAR-KP563W is, IMO, the far better deal but I just can't handle 60hz screens anymore, would drive me crazy long term. The 90hz UM3402YA-KM445X would be a good middle ground but that CPU is a year older.

    • UX3404VA-M9026W is great as you get Non-Touch OLED and latest i5-13500H CPU. Only slight concern is these Intel CPU's are pretty power hungry, but in general you should get 6-8 hours I reckon

      • +1

Yeah, it's a really thirsty chip but I can live with 6-8 hours. I'm normally near a USB C charger at work/home anyway

        • Keen to hear back your thoughts when you get it and feedback on the OLED screen!

          • @cyrax83: Will do. It's back at $1599 at Centrecom again though

    • Did you paid $1,449 for UX3404VA-M9026W? Or $1,599? How are you finding the battery life?

      • I paid 1,449 but haven't received it yet so can't comment on battery life

        • Thank you, good price.

  • Man I don't know which one to choose! AMD or Intel.

I am keen for the 120hz screen but comments seem to say lower battery life.

  • Price went up for the 7530U one
