Probably in preparation for Apple's VR/AR announcement in a few days, which is probably going to cost closer to $5,000US than $500.
Definitely in response to Apples pending announcement. But I'm not certain the rumours about the high price will be correct. Back when they launched the iPad there were rumours everywhere saying it would be $1000+ and then Apple blew everyone out of the water with a $499 price. I think it's possible the new VR headset costs around $1000 USD or so rather than the $3000 USD everyone's claiming.
We'll have to wait and see. I'd buy one for sure for $1,000 US, assuming it does what the rumours say it will. Using it with my Mac as an unlimited desktop would be a game changer. On 13 inch MacBook even at the smallest zoom setting the Adobe apps feel so cramped, constantly need to scroll down in the Properties panel to get to basic settings.

@stirlo: Yeah but Vision Pro makes Quest and all other VR headsets look like baby toys. Like an outdated 90s vision of VR.

Seems like pico4pro is a better unit for me since I need eye tracking and face tracking in social game. And it is a bit cheaper

Wrong model, this would be $900ish at MSRP, probably only available on AliExpress at this point.
It is $250 for eye/face tracking and a storage upgrade though, would have liked to have seen a 128GB version with more aggressive pricing.
