Oled TV, Samsung 95c Vs Others

Hi guys, I am currently in the market for an OLED tv and it seems Samsung 95c is generally loved by everyone at least in review websites. I've always been a Sony fan but it seems they don't have anything in the class of 95c at the moment. The only downside for 95c seems to be lack of Dolby vision so I wanted to ask if it is actually a big deal or if anyone has anything bad to say about it. I am also struggeling to choose between 65inch and 77inch. I am living in an apartment with a mid size living room but I am not sure if 77 would be too big !

Surely the Sony A95K is in the same class?

    • yeah close but no 77 inch if I want to go with that size

Dolby Vision mostly matters for movies. If the primary use of the OLED is for movies, then consider getting one with DV.

re: size, the bigger the better. Can never be too big.

    • Does Dolby vision need to be implemented at the source or is it just a way for the TV to produce a better image regardless?

      • It has to be at the source. DV is not an enhancement.

Samsung TV's don't support DTS audio too, if that matters.

I've got the S95B and got no issues getting movies off the 7 seas that do the HDR that Samsung has.

    • Do they convert dolby vision to hdr10+ or something like that?

    • For future reference what are they listed as? Obviously not Dolby Vision rips.

  • most movies are available in HDR, HDR10+ and DV

though DV is supposed to be the more stunning of the three.

if you cant wait for the A95L which should be out in the next month - I would go with a LG G3 - but for the amount your paying its probably worth waiting for the A95L…..which is what I am doing

    • It's not that DV is more stunning, it's that DV changes every scene designed by the producers of the tv show/movie. Whereas HDR is just data set for the whole show, its not as good as it doesnt have data per scene its static. With that said, ive watched countless vidoes of hdr vs dv and I dont really think dv look any better, it s probably just the knowledge that the producers put the effort of programming in the contrast to every scene.

  • Its not just the DV to consider, its the operating system apparently tizen got even worse probably cos of the bloatware/adverts making it more laggy then even before. I know people say to use a streaming box, but i dont recommend that as the native apps are just a bit better in quality and also you have to have two remotes, its just plain nice having a good operating system built in.

I dont think you should worry about DV, but the operating system is going to be slighly annoying to use in the long run, if you were already planning to use apple tv or something then its porbably a good choice.

In contrast sony a95l has a new chip in it that will make the google tv os super fast, I personally have a 2020 x90h and find the operating system pretty smooth and nice already. With DV and the best motion processing.
