Car Rental in The UK

Plannning to the visit the UK for a couple of weeks in July. Wanted to rent a car for about 7 days of that. Has been ages since I've rented a car here or overseas.
Any advice regarding which agency to choose and how to get the best rate? I will have car rental excess insurance as part of my travel cover.

Thanks in advance

    Depends when.

    Depends where.

    Depends airport premium or not.

    Depends target budget.

    Depends return location.

    Depends what vehicle class/size needed.

Depends want ICE or Electric car.

Depends on driver(s) age & license.

    Depends on demand/supply that week.

There's so many factors that there's no single answer. Do a search with the main rental companies as well as search aggregators and find what's suitable for you. Opodo Travel is one I use for their price matching and flexibility to change as required.

    Skyscanner
Read the T&Cs of your travel insurance but it will likely have some degree of excess coverage, probably not amazing tho

    • probably not amazing tho

      Most cover the entire excess.

      • Yes with many hoops on the way

        • For example?

    • Skyscanner and double check against Kayak.

  • economycarrentals.com is my go to, has got me good deals pretty much all over the world.

  • How much research have you done yourself?

    • What is research? What no Astalavista anymore……

My parents did this in 2019, it ended up being cheaper to pay in Australia and organise pick up from Heathrow, but I'd suggest checking and double checking as to what documentation is required. Also, think they had to pay a bond/deposit when they picked it up and it was charged in UK pounds (a lot has happened since then, so I wouldn't doubt that things have changed since then).

Like all car hires. Take photos of when you pick it up . Make them list every single blemish. Do the same on the return.

Including the level on the fuel gauge.

  • Thanks all. I found Europcar via Expedia to have the cheapest for a manual car. Not sure if pricing error. Fingers crossed!
