[VIC] Free 12-Month Busking Permit from City of Melbourne (up to a $300 Saving)

2040

Looks like City of Melbourne wants more people to come into the city. Not sure if handing out free busking permits will help or detract from the cause but given it usually costs quite a bit depending on the busking licence I thought it's worth posting.

We might even get JV busking on the streets to add to the daily entertainment.

When you apply, you will need to:

  • Provide a digital example of your busking act (link to your online act profile, photos or video).
Upload a video of yourself performing your act if you don’t provide a link to online examples of your act (accepted video file formats: .avi, .mp3, .mp4, with a maximum file size of 2 GB).
  • Attend a virtual seminar, live audition or safety assessment if required, depending on your performance type.
  • Obtain consent from a parent or legal guardian if you are under 16 (refer to the FAQs for more information).

The City of Melbourne welcomes all varieties of buskers and street performers to perform on our streets. At this time, we are inviting buskers to apply for a free permit until 30 June 2023. Musicians, singers, dancers, magicians, mimes, puppeteers, living statues, painters and chalk artists are all eligible. Apply now – we’d love to have you entertain city visitors. The free permit waiver includes all permit types, selling fees, renewals and new applications.

    • I have no idea why you got so many negs for that comment. I guess a lot of people can't handle the truth. And best not to mention Battleground Melbourne either I guess?

  • Wonder how many people taking that cash tax free while also on gov benefits.

  • Excellent, I've got my Coldplay covers memorised

  • Going to renew my boys permits. My youngest was 8 when he finally got his dangerous acts permit so he can juggle machete knives, fire, unicycle and whip crack. Unfortunately someone said 'covid' a couple of weeks later and the state shutdown for a couple of years, so he never used his permit. We paid for the fees and the 30 million public liability insurance and never used it. Time to renew it and start again I guess.

  • oooo buskin

  • wow, don't need a police check/working with children card to apply for a busking permit.

    • What's the rationale? People who aren't buskers are walking on the street without permits. Unless you're selling balloons or doing face painting then I can't really see why you'd need too many checks.

      • I see something of their point. You're interacting with public in a working context and ideally 'roping' them into an endorsed (permitted by the City) interaction. I could definitely see rationale for needing a WCC - but then again I can't see why any person seeking any form of role/work wouldn't want to always hold a current WCC.

    • Anyone working or volunteering with kids needs a wwc. Police check is not relevant to working with kids.

      • You need both these days.
No one will take you on without a valid police check.

        • I have been a full time kids entertainer for 14 years. Only occasionally do I get asked for WWC (usually schools or kids after hours care) and I think maybe twice I have been asked for a polic check - in 14 years! WWC is better than a police check anyway as it is an ongoing check and will alert your employer if you have an issue. Police check is only as of the date of issue. Surprising most people do take you on without asking for either!

  • can i do those style videos of "do XYZ better than me and win $50" with a five dollar entry, as my busking act ?
