PSA: Foxtel Now Is a Nightmare to Cancel

A heads-up to anyone in the same boat as me. I signed up to a Foxtel Now Sports Plus bundle at $29/mo for 12 months from this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/700803

As the 12th month's direct debit came out of my credit card this week I saw that it was time to cancel, the more so as they are discontinuing access to beIN Sports. Officially cancellation can only be done through the website, but that appears to have been deliberately engineered to make it difficult to cancel. After logging into my account I click on a cancel membership button (which is at least easy to locate) which takes me through to a form.

The issue is that the form refuses to submit. After a lengthy delay the submission button simply reappears without any feedback that the request was successful. This happens repeatedly (submit, long wait, nothing happens, submit button reappears) in a long, slow, endless loop.

In the end I was only able to cancel by bothering the chatbot. After eventually getting through to a human, I was asked to try again after clearing browser history, different device, different network etc., all with the same result. In all, half an hour of my life that I will never get back.

In the end the chat rep agreed to process the cancellation on my behalf, but even then was unable to provide confirmation by email. I kept a screenshot of the chat. Upon logging back in a short time later, I could at least see that it had gone through.

I strongly suspect that this arduous cancellation process is not a bug but a feature, and definitely something to consider if subscribing again in the future.

And also, FOCK MURDUCH!

I hate when companies do this, so annoying.

  • Many companies do these stuff.

    • It's why they loose my business.

Just give them a call using a phone.

I had a trial of Foxtel Now (which required credit card details to charge me after the trial) and the quality was woeful. Low bitrate SD using terribly old masters of movies and chock full of ads on all non-movie channels.

The service was way too difficult to cancel. I didn't mind because I had used a one-time use card to sign up but I kept getting emails with invoices saying they will terminate my service if I don't pay. They had already disabled the service by this stage but it felt threatening as if it was an unpaid power bill. All other streaming services cut their service if you don't pay but they don't then pursue you for a fake debt.

    Avoid Foxtel be my advice.

It's definitely a scam. I'm going to report it to the ACCC.

Sounds like a malfunctioning online form tbh
