Just got this for an OS drive for an upcoming build. Great performance

Dam I paid $244 11th March 2023 from Amazon US via AU

      Return it.

      • No ahah. I didn't realise that the price are still high

      • I hope you're not serious. $6 isn't worth that trouble

        • Yeah no it's definitely not a issue especially when you stack it with gift cards

    • +1

      Same. This thing goes fast

  • Would you guys partition these nvme drives or keep it as 2TB whole?

    • +1

personally, I'd keep them as is, but it depends on your needs.

      • +1

        Shows 231 now.

        • amazing! I saw it at 235 last night, but when you add it to the cart, it went to 238 weirdly.
          I'll update the post, thanks!

  • This or ..Samsung 980 Pro M.2 2280 NVMe 2TB Gen4 $220 (ebay+)??

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/295702721613?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

    • WD has the edge in some specs (though I like the hardware encryption on the Samsungs). I have a 970 Pro right now, and decided to get a WD this time because of how Samsung handled that longevity issue on their drives a little while ago.
Make sure you update the firmware via their software before you use it, if you get the Samsung

      • Question, would you buy this or the 970 Evo plus 2TB deal for $142? I have a 5900x w/ x570s mobo. Worth the price increase for the gen4 over the gen3 as a boot drive? TIA

        • What are you using it for? Boot drive? And what software? Just a standard boot drive then the Evo Plus would be fine. If you have some need that needs to read and write a lot and quickly, then this one

          • @beatsntoons: Ye just a boot drive for windows 11, gaming mostly. Wondering whether the gen4 will benefit from the directstorage feature in the future or will the 970 Evo plus be enough?

            • +1

@tony2shanks: AFAIK, all NVME drives benefit from DirectStorage, not just PCIe 4 ones. You can have a PCIe 3 drive and it can support it in Win11
If it’s for boot and games then I’d go with the WD drive, personally.

  • $219 now, auf Deutschland.

    • +1

      yeah just noticed. Unreal!

  • Would this be overkill for storing my Photos library and Music library, connected to my Mac Mini M2 via a 40Gbps NVMe M.2 SSD enclosure? It'll more be a media repository rather than frequent photo editing.

    • yeah pretty much. You don't need this sort of drive for simple storage (though nothing wrong with that either)
