Oral B Electric Toothbrush - Pro 2000 Vs Pro 3000 Vs Smart 1

Hi All,

We were in the market for a new electric toothbrush and the Oral-B 50% off at Woolies caught our eye. As the title indicates, what would you suggest between these 3 models. They look very similar in the features and they also have very similar pricing currently (across different sites though) so would like to get an idea which one would be the better value. Ideally, we would like to purchase one in the next couple of days at most.

Thanks in advance.

I just upgraded to an iO Series, a significant improvement over the older handles.

There's a significant problem with the iO Series in terms of mold growth, in the brush head, which stopped me from giving this new model a go, after my Sonicare 4300 stopped charging.

      • We have three handles, two using white brush heads, no mould.

    • Thanks for your response. I did not even consider the iO simply due to the price. The budget was around $75 and the iOs start at $140+.

Personally, I tried the Pro versions and Smart 1 and wasn't all that impressed with how it felt which I'm sure is personal preference. I then gave the Sonicare 4300 a go and used that for over 3 years before it stopped working. I picked up the new Colgate Pulse Series 2 for an insanely cheap price, knowing I'd likely be disappointed (based on my experience with the older generation Colgate electric toothbrushes) and unfortunately my suspicion was correct - still under powered. I picked up another Sonicare 4300 from JB Hifi for $74 ($84 on sale less $10 Perks coupon).

    • Thanks for your response. I must admit I did not consider any of the other brands since most of the reviews indicated Oral-B as one of the better options. Plus with the current 50% off at Woolies and Chemist Warehouse, it seemed like a good option. I will have a look at the Sonicare 4300 too.

    Basically the differences are:

    Pro 2000
    Ni-MH Battery
    Pressure Sensor (Back only)
    2 Cleaning Modes

    Pro 3000
    Li-Ion Battery
    360 Pressure Sensor
    Upgraded Travel Case
    3 Cleaning Modes

    Smart 1
    Li-Ion Battery
IMO Higher RPM than Pro 2000 (I have both)
    Pressure Sensor (Back only)
Bluetooth (Useful for timer / checking battery level)
    Upgraded Travel Case
    3 Cleaning Modes

Are you sure the pro 2000 is nimh? Just checked mine and it has Li-ion printed on the bottom of the base. Also shaver shop and amcal list it as Li-ion.

The pro 2000 is the best value. You only really need the 2 min/30 sec per quadrant timer and the back pressure sensor.

      • Defintely, I have a Oral B Professional Pro 2000 Type 3756 and it clearly says Ni-MH in the base. However it seems that it might have been superceded by the Pro 2 2000 - which seems to have Li-Ion (although they don't list it as a feature). Unfortunately Oral B is pretty opaque when trying to compare their various models.

      • The Pro 2000 was the one I was thinking of originally given that it seems to be the Ozbargain favourite however there were no offers for it for over a quarter and the current price is 79 which puts it in the same price as Pro 3000 and Smart 1. That's why I was wondering which one would have been the better option given the prices are differing by only a couple of dollars.

        • I would suggest the Smart 1 in that case (unless you need 2 and can wait for a deal like this) due to the inclusion of Bluetooth - whilst this sounds a littlle gimmicky I find it useful for checking the charge level and to disable the other cleaning modes that I never use (and prevent their accidental activation).
