Any similar deals from Melbourne for Sept/October? November just a little too cold for me. Even another European airport would be fine.

Rubbish airline, cancelled my flight and missed my connecting flight as a result and they won't reimburse me for the new flight.
It has been 8 months now.

    • +4

      Aren't all airlines rubbish now?

      • Not necessarily, I had a missed Qantas flight recently (PER-SIN-LHR) (Perth to Singapore flight was canned)

Flight was cancelled and was moved by Qantas Customer Services in Perth onto QF9, processed a claim at the airport for the downgrade in fare from F->J on the SIN-LHR sector.

Received the funds in under 72 hours.

    • Ughh sucks. Out of interest, was the connection with them or another airline?

Defs sounds like 2 separate tickets…

    • +10

Pretty sure there are clear warnings not to buy seperate tickets for flights that are too close. As a consumer, you really should know this. Sounds like an expensive lesson tbh…

This has nothing to do with the airline and everything to do with your novice expectations. No airline will reimburse you for something like that.

Sounds like it was 2 tickets otherwise they would have got him on the next flight.

It's a risk we all take with seperate tickets these days

        • Most certainly. I have missed a ton of connections in my life, all of them through connecting flight tickets. And all except one was airlines being late or flights being cancelled.

Not getting ticketed to a different flight with them or a partner wasn’t even a consideration for any of them. In fact, it usually meant either a free meal voucher or even a hotel along with meals.

But if you buy them seperate, it’s all on you unfortunately.

          • @Larsson: Whilst I agree with you and that is preferable to book through the same airline but it is not always possible because they don't fly to all destination and I had no other choice.
However the treatment we received from Etihad was not ideal. I will avoid them in the future if possible.

            • @nadan: I understand and that does sound like a different issue, not just not getting a reimbursement, but the treatment is poor.
I did have a similar experience with Emirates. We bought tickets from a third party before Covid. Put it on hold for a year and the 3rd party was giving us the run around so asked for help from them. Granted they didn’t have to help and I knew it was between me and the 3rd party, but Emirates customer service was absolute ass about the whole thing. So I do understand your frustration.

Why should they reimburse you for missing your next flight?

Either they will put you on on the next one (if it was with Etihad) or you should claim on your travel insurance.

      • Actually i don't think travel insurance would cover it either? I read a few PDSs and I'm pretty sure a lot require the flights to be on the same ticket… if anyone can explain…

      • Why should not they if they cause you to miss your flight? I thought it is on them to do so. If it is a minor delay it is understandable, but if it is like close to 24 hours then why not?
I don't know the rules around this and it was the first time where I had an international flight cancelled.

It's always been one of the worst airlines tbh, speaking from multiple experiences. I only ever use it for last minute bookings, when all other airlines are fully booked.

  • I thought Etihad was one of the best or is that Qatar

    • IMHO Neither is good, but Etihad is far worse.

    • +1

      maybe you're thinking of Emirates?

      • That’s the one!
The one I can never afford!

    • Been flying Qatar a lot in the past year. They are rubbish. JAL, Cathay and Qantas have all been preferable for me.

  • Also title suggest Sydney is cheaper than Melbourne but body text shows opposite

I can't recommend Etihad at all. They changed their flexible booking policy that was in place during covid after confirming over the phone it would stay in place until 30/06/22. Ended up losing over $600 as months before the deadline they cancelled their policy with no heads up. Their customer service has been incompetent. One staff member agreed with us and said I should get refunded, another can't find a record of that call. Complaints are not addressed. Going through a chargeback process now. Overall a terrible experience.

    • How exactly did you lose $600 ?

I had a return flight that I needed to change to a later date. Etihad suggested I wait until the end of June to get the dates I needed as they weren't available at the time I spoke to them. Called in June and surprise! The policy allowing this for free no longer exists. I'm then stuck with a return flight that I can't catch and can't be rebooked to the dates I need (I could have paid a change flight fee and flight difference fee but new flights could only be booked if they left by the end of September according to their new policy, and I needed early 2023 flights). So I paid for a return flight with a flexible policy at the time, guaranteed an end date to this policy, and was blatantly lied to. So I only used one leg of the flight, only half the value of my flights could be used.

        • Yeah that’s pretty terrible.

          Thanks for sharing.

  • Etihad is really good if you get to fly their 787s / 350s and 380s.

777s are on their last leg but still doable.

  • Got any deals to Milan from Melbourne departing next weekend? 😊

  • any updated flights for europe in october or Nov with any other airlines? Haven't seen many Europe sales :(

  • They are a decent airline and prices are generally cheaper than qatar etc, but where you save a few dollars on flights the accomodation in europe overall is very expensive, for a family of 5 say for instance can break the bank, back in 2019' prices were reasonable but post covid they have more than doubled.

  • Anything for next May please? We are looking to fly to Amsterdam then return home from Rome at the end of the trip..
