Not associated in any way just came to say Singapore Airlines have been great to fly with in the past :)

    • +1

They also have the free 2 hours wifi on board for KrisFlyer members (free). Though don't activate while you fly pass India and some middle east countries, as restrictions from those countries applies. Very convenient for entertaining kids. I prefer to fly with Singapore too.

      • +1

If you can get it to work! Most frustrating sometimes

    • +1

      100% ✅✅✅

    • +1

It's probably the best that Sin Air didn't get dragged down by Qantas from the proposed merger 20 years ago.

    • Agreed, one of the best I've flown with and these are excellent prices if the dates suit.

  • +8

    Great price. Good airline.

Lots to like here - apart from I want to travel in November.

    • +1

Yeah I need December-Jan. Everything is $4-4.5k absolutely cooked.

  • +1

Any for August, All in weekend?

    • Unfortunately only October

      • Nothing spanning nsw labour day oct 2?

  • This seems like a great deal atm. I'm hoping to head to Europe around Xmas time. Are we likely to get anywhere near this price over December or January?

    • +8

Unfortunately not. Rarely are there sales over the busy period. If you see an ok price now, I suggest booking it asap.

    • +3

If price is your biggest concern and you don't mind some inconvenience I think I've cracked it at around $1700 for Christmas (Gold Coast to London Return December 21st to Jan 19th) Which is half the price of direct.

The key is booking seperate flights.

Air Asia X from GC to Kuala Lumpur is under $300 each way- quite a lot of dates at this price in December.

Kuala Lumpur to London is $1100 Return on Singapore Air. To Paris is even cheaper- $900 ish when I looked)

Obviously the risk is Air Asia delaying/cancelling, and missing the next flight. However have a night or two in Kuala Lumpur, and it is still a lot cheaper than what direct flights come up as.

I haven't booked it yet, but it seems pretty good in theory!

      • +1

Yeah, ive always been big on this approach

Mind you this was in 2015 but i booked..

        Melb to LA
        Vegas to NYC
        NYC to London
        London to Ibiza
        Ibiza to Amsterdam
        Amsterdam to London
        London to Stockholm
        Stockholm to Bangkok
        Bangkok to Koh Samui
        Koh Samui to KL
        KL to Melb

        $2600

        • This is an epic itinerary! 😎

  • I've got a couple of friends in Europe who are interested in visiting here. But whenever I reverse the destination and departure I can never find anywhere close to the same price. Is there a European equivalent of flight finder?

    • +2

      Kayak, Skyscanner or Momondo.

      • Yep tried them, but still can never find a similar promotional price departing Europe as departing Oz.

        • Virtually always that way. Australia to Europe cheaper significantly.

          • @Del Boy: But these are return fights, the airline still needs to fly the passenger(s) both directions. Why would changing the order of the flights change the cost? It's ridiculous.

            • @shkippy: Maybe these airlines think the Brits are richer than Aussie :/

            • +1

              @shkippy:

Why would changing the order of the flights change the cost?

Because it makes them more money.

              It's ridiculous.

You find it ridiculous to want to make more money? Interesting…

            • +2

              @shkippy: 20+% vat vs 10% gst

            • @shkippy: It depends on the airport and the taxes they charge. A few airports in Europe like London Heathrow charge insane amount of taxes which the airline then charges to the passenger.

            • @shkippy: Hmm. Is the cost of flights going down in October and November or is this another example of Singapore Airlines being ridiculous?

Pricing has only a little to do with cost, in commerce.

Which is often great for bargain hunters!

              • -1

@realJuliusCaesar: So in other words you think it's price gouging? So I assume you have no problem with paying more for petrol or groceries? But your right price gouging is everywhere. Companies are always increasing profits and bonuses for executives but not for everyone else.

But I digress, I guess what I'm trying to say: well duh! But why don't they price gouge Aussies too? It's not the competition, as these are return flights and no airline only flies one-way. I understand the reason they increase the price around festivities/school holidays because there is more demand.
If there are cheaper prices here then presumably less demand, but if there is more demand and better prices from the Europeans why do they need to sell to us at all? So it still baffles me why do we have cheaper prices than them.

The only thing I can think of is price fixing. Is it that much easier to get away with in Europe? Is the ACCC that much better at doing it's job than it's European equivalent?

                • @shkippy: Nothing at all to do with governments printing and spending money like a drunken sailor, perhaps?

As far as price fixing, it hasn't worked wonders in places from Venezuela to old Rome, so I'd just warn against doing it in Australia, seeing as we're not free from the reality of the laws of thermodynamics and scarcity.

                • @shkippy: When you mentioned price gouging I thought I must have misunderstood you.

So I did a quick check on travel either way in June. It's roughly the same though, £1800/$3300. Even though the tax rates are different, and they use different flights (routes).

So I'm still not sure what you mean.

I originally thought you were annoyed because they didn't run the Oct/Nov promotion in both directions. But that's completely unreasonable to expect in my view. Any company is welcome to discount to Australian customers - they have their own reasons for this, such as trying to build brand loyalty with Australian customers.

                  • @realJuliusCaesar:

I originally thought you were annoyed because they didn't run the Oct/Nov promotion in both directions.

                    Exactly.

I'm still yet to find an equivalent return flight promotion that runs from Europe to Oz. I don't care the date/time of year, just the price similar to what we can get here. Multiple times I've searched extensively on google flights/sky scanner etc using all sorts of dates and European cities. But still can't find any promotional flights at a similar price to a promotion that we're used to here. Do they never run an equivalent promotion in the other direction? Or am I somehow just missing it?

                    • @shkippy: Ok. I understand your frustration.

I don't agree with terms such as 'ridiculous', 'price gouging', and 'price fixing' though. It's just the absence of a discount, that's all. And like I said, little to do with cost.

    • +1

I would need to find a European version of me! Lol

      • How did you go in finding an EU version of yourself? Do you need more time? I am definitely looking out for your update.

      • with little swimming shorts. No homo.

  • +1

I wonder if anyone else has been able to replicate these prices on the Singapore Airlines website.

  • So cheap. I paid 2.8k for June though it is peak season/summer during that time so can’t complain.

    • Same, we are going in August/September and paid $2.7k

  • Is September considered peak? Been looking at flights to London/Paris/Amsterdam at this time and they are pretty exy. Seems like theres quite a few cheaper flights Oct/Nov.

    • Shoulder season. Peak would be summer.

    • September is the new peak time, as everyone thinks they can get good weather on the shoulder

      • last year was (so far) a statistical outlier for a shoulder season weather. lots are banking on the same happening this year.

      • +1

as everyone thinks they can get good weather on the shoulder

        You can in Southern/Central Europe.

Last year I went around the Mediterranean throughout all of September and the weather only started dipping into Australian winter temperatures in that last week of September.

You can still swim at the beach in Turkey/Greece, Southern Italy, the Adriatic and Spain right up until mid-September.

    • Its peak if its during school holidays. If you can go 4/5 days either side then prices will drop a lot and in mid term its the cheapest

  • Malaysian airlines appears cheaper and has more direct flights from Sydney. Am I missing something?

    • -5

      You're missing flight MH370

      • I was just thinking about that bad omen :(

      • -2

        Disgusting joke.

      • Boooo.

      • -1

Amazing, have they found it yet?

      • +5

So many people so sensitive about MH370, but it is legitimately the main reason why Malaysian Airlines flights are so much cheaper than everyone else's and why people still don't fly them.

      • lol

    • +1

I've flown both SQ and MH recently and found that SQ were better than MH in pretty much every way… Much more modern aircraft, significantly better entertainment, metal cutlery, better food and drinks selection, friendlier crew, and Changi airport is nicer than KLIA. Definitely worth paying a bit extra for SQ, but MH is fine if it's a fair bit cheaper, however, note that MH charge for bags on the cheapest fairs.

  • +5

I wouldn't make any bookings as the cheap fares always goes through to the website 'myholidays.com' and the google reviews are terrible. Be very careful.

    • I'm trying to book directly through the airline, which is what I would recommend. The longest trip duration I can select is 31 days. Do you think that is enough time to explore the best of Europe? I have never been there and would like to see several countries and cities. I was hoping to travel for 2 months but can't get it at this price.

      • IMO.

You will need at least a week in each country.

Otherwise you will miss too much.

    • +1

It's fine as long as you have zero need to contact them, or change your details.

If you just want to get on the flight and fly then you are fine.

    • +1

Price match at Flight Centre for peace of mind, they can usually see more flight times also

      • Note Aunty Betty and BYOJet are all part of the Flightcentre group. They should also be listed from the available OTAs

  • +2

    No love for lil Adelaide?

  • Looking at one date the Singapore Air site had the equivalent fare was $2176 rtn. Has anyone used myholidays without issue before.

    • +1

You can get Flight Centre to price match also…

      • Have you done that?

        • +1

Yes I have done it before, was fine.

They can also help with stopovers ect

  • I'm planning to visit the UK and some European countries for 2 or 4 weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Thanks.

    • Really depends what you are into

    • +4

Fly into london, 4 days there and surrounds, recover from jet lag, Eurostar to paris, low cost airlines from there to Italy, spain, Greece, etc. Fly back to Glasgow, and visit north England or Scotland, return from London

    • Buy a Lonely Planet guide for Europe and see what tickles your fancy.

    • +1

      I suggest 4 weeks.

    • there are so many options, but as Iberation mentioned, it depends on what you're into, the season etc.

    • +1

some European countries for 2 or 4 weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

With an itinerary as vague as that… no.

How about you mention which countries/cities specifically and what time of year you'll be going? That'll narrow it down a bit.

  • +1

good deal, would pick SQ over QF any day on the SYD-LHR route.

  • I try to buy a ticket. It tells you all the time it is aud but at the ends it seems like you have to pay USD.
I didn’t try to pay as I was too worried.
    Look at the reviews…
    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/my-holidays

  • Any deal from Europe to BNE return?

  • +1

“Regret to inform you that availability has been changed for the requested flights during your purchase. Therefore the ticker is not confirmed.”, said myholidays after 2 hours of booking and money taken, probably they’ll refund.

  • Is scoot reliable? I haven't heard from anyone about their experience tbh. I guess far better than jetstar but just guessing…

    • I have scooted to Athens.

Only one late (2 hours) flight out of 4.

  • How much to Ho Chi Minh City from Cairns?

    • +4

you didn't even mention any dates lol…save OPs time and use google flights yourself, piss easy.

  • Literally mid checkout and it looks like all the BNE>LHR flights are gone. You’re killing me! 😭

    • +1

I lied, after refreshing the page a couple of times I managed to snag tickets for ~$1465 return. I’ll take that!

      • Did you pay with pp to avoid the $20 surcharge?

        • Pardon? The tickets were available through myholidays.com, who don’t accept PayPal. According to the breakdown of charges, I didn’t pay any card fees… the prices just went up a little during the day. I’m still happy with what I got.

  • Purchased this morning but my tickets are still showing as reserved and not confirmed on Singapore airlines website. Slightly concerned as the price is no longer available.

  • TY OP. I managed to book Sydney to London, returning via Rome For $1530 return. Next step is to order a Eurail pass and plan an itinerary. So excited :)

    • really good price for a SQ Europe return, enjoy.

      • It's a mix of of Scoot (Australasia leg) and Singapore Airlines (Euro leg). Thanks man. It will be my first time in Europe.

  • Would you fly with Malaysian Airlines?

  • Just wanted to say Singapore Airlines are by far the best airline I've ever flown

  • Any one figure out how to add the extended stopover in singapore for $100? Was thinking a few days.
