Got one of these 8 months ago Excellent device great for checking temp on anything.

    • What about oil for deep frying?

      • That would work

      • Should be fine, as it's advertised to reach 300 deg C, and oil is typically around 180 C for frying. So it's a lot of head room for normal use.

      • Yes I've used this for oil temp in fryer .

  • Thanks got one! Was just looking at this last night, glad I held off buying!

  • Bought one. Thanks.

  • Thanks being looking for a one due to recent bargains appearing here :) and end up buying this one, looking forward to cooking based on temperature. Appreciate if someone can share some shared guides to refer to showing the temperature to check when cooking meat, chicken to salmon?

  • I was in the market for a new one of these - being Inkbird I figured it'd be pretty good. Turned off by the integral battery but. Yeah, it'll last longer than a standard battery, but once it's cactus the whole device is cactus. Ended up getting this ThermoPro one instead which whilst certainly not feeling very high quality appears to do the job, and takes an easily replaceable AAA battery.

Why does everyone insist on making batteries integral to the device? Are you that desperate for sales you need to build in this "planned obsolescence" feature? I suppose most purchasers don't care about tossing a whole thermometer in the bin when the battery dies, and at $20 I can't say I blame them…

How many charges you expecting to do on this? I'm pretty sure it's going to outlive me

Fair point, and you could be right in lasting longer than you or I. In that case but I'd like to be able to pass it down!

It outliving us does depends on the quality of the battery they've put in and it's self-discharge rate. How frequently it needs to recharge will increase as the battery ages and it's actual capacity drops.

And my point does still stand: it's a non-replaceable battery. If it fails/dies, or even just needs charging frequently enough to be frustrating, the whole thing is dead. The one I purchased, if my battery fails/dies or needs to be recharged too frequently, I replace the battery, not the whole device. Just seems wasteful for little-to-no benefit. And I don't say that in terms of "save the planet" wasteful… just, wasteful.

If it's for you, it's for you. But for me, I find the USB charging and non-replaceable batteries deal-breakers. I still upvoted but as it is a good deal, and Inkbird does (AFAIK) make good devices.

Very fair. For me I reckon another $20 years down the line for one that'll probably be better (although not sure how much better a thermometer could be - maybe track each measurement you make over Wi-Fi to the cloud) isn't much of an issue. I would recycle it as per the instructions.

Yeah, i've not had problems with my inkbird kit. Other than ibbq4t or whatever it is needing to be re-setup every single time the app updates which gets tiresome.

  • Thanks OP

Two best features on this: USB-C and magnetic back - chuck it on the fridge so you're not hunting in that drawer
