    Avoid buying direct from Samsung. Nightmare experience. Ended up buying from powerlandau ebay site.

    Also q990c is regularly around 1200 mark.

    That $1500 soundbar sounds almost as good as a proper audio setup with full-size speakers that costs $500. Not quite, but that's still pretty good for a soundbar.

      I like your thinking.

      But maybe you can mess up the speakers just as much as a soundbar by poorly positioning them right on top of a reflective surface like in the Samsung photos.

      Seriously, why would anyone with half a clue drop a grand on a soundbar in the first place. Oh, right. It's for the "up firing speakers" which reflect straight off the TV screen.

    • What are your recommendations for a $500 setup of similar audio quality?

        KRK Classics were on here recently for just over a hundred each. Almost bought them, but I don't need more speakers. The old standby JBL 305s. Really, any active bookshelf/monitor speakers are going to be pretty decent and less inherently compromised than a row of tiny little drivers crammed together.

        The only reason soundbars are a thing these days are because flatscreen TVs are too flat for decent speakers, so they invariably sound like shite and literally anything sounds wow in comparison. Even soundbars.

          KRK's are monitors and would perform poorly compared to the soundbars in this post for the purposes of watching TV/gaming.

            @anarky: Uh…. what exactly do you think that the label 'monitor' suddenly does to a speaker?

            • -1

              @rumblytangara: you're misinterpreting my comment.

              • +1

                @anarky: Then perhaps you could explain yourself with more eloquence. Rather than rely on terse one-liners that are devoid of meaning.

                  @rumblytangara: I guess it's beyond you.

                  • +1

                    @anarky: It's okay to admit that you don't have the faintest idea how audio works. There's no shame in it.

                    Well, maybe a little bit of shame.

                    • @rumblytangara: I'd rather have no knowledge of how audio works than your level of reading comprehension.

                      • @anarky:

                        Yet you're quite happy to give an opinion when you admit you know nothing about the subject. You still can't explain what is wrong with 'monitor' speakers. Seems about par for the course for this conversation :D

    Q990c is $1169.10 (with 10% code YIPPEE) plus postage from Powerland Ebay. The postage kills it for me but it's a great deal if you live in a free postage location.

  • so this q990c comes with rear speakers as well yeah ???

  • $1489 at Good Guys with pricebeat

  • In of the previous post someone mentioned heavy sale coming on soundbards, starts on 15th June in JB.
