  • Bought from Myer in last deal, great bar

    • How's the bass. Reviews on bass were not good when I checked

      • +2

I own this. It’s a small soundbar so don’t expect it to make anything shake.

It has a wider soundstage compared to the Beam 2.

Under $400 is a great price.

        • Thank. Bose sound is crisp. Can't go wrong I guess

    • +6

As with all other sound bars and everything else in this universe, the laws of physics apply. No sound bar is going to rival a dedicated subwoofer with an 8" or 10" driver. The Bose Bass Module 500, a subwoofer, is likely going to match well with this bar. Available from Flybuys if you have some points. The Good Guys, Amazon and HN have it for $545 (Bose direct @ $699.95)

  • Sonos beam equivalent. Great price

  • -4

Hardly Normal $385 if you have the stomach for it

  • That's a great price

  • +8

Available at Amazon as well for 385$ too.

What gives? Why does Bose wanna clear this model out?

Also what Bass Module would suit this? Can only find the 500 and 700 models. Any of these compatible?

  • +2

    Awesome price OP

  • Do people with sound bars not have the worry of connecting game consoles or smart tv dongles?

    • +6

You connect a soundbar via the HDMI ARC socket on your TV. Consoles and other HDMI devices plug into the other HDMI ports and the TV uses the ARC one as an audio output, as well as controlling soundbar volume.

Not all soundbars use ARC, but any decent one should

      • Yea OK, My cheaparse $400 TV only has 3x HDMI (1 w/ARC)
Current using a receiver to switch between BD Player, Switch, Wii U, Super Nintendo, XBox, Google TV, FireStick Max.

Maybe I can convince partner we need a new TV

        • You'll probably still need a switch. Not many TVs would be in the 7-8 range.

Ideally you'd have a receiver to act as a switch and run your sound, but that would cost 2-3x the price of your TV just for a audio device that does HDMI switching

          • @Domingo: That's what I currently have.
I've got an audio receiver with 5 inputs
and a cheap hdmi switch for googleTV and Firestick
and another hdmi switch for Wii U and Super Nintendo

            • @StevieRay: What you need is less devices in your life!

What is the use case for the Google TV and the Firestick?

              • +1

@Domingo: Was testing both out. Genuinely surprised we prefer the Firestick.
                But yes, should remove one.

As the HDMI switch is hidden, I did consider neutering one from apps to limit what kids (under 12) could use, and have the other one as all access after hours.<shrugs>

          • @Domingo: And if you have a receiver and using a soundbar that’s an only a stopgap solution on the way to a proper speaker setup.

    • Nope, plenty of HDMI ports here

  • Can you wire none Bose subs to these or are the proprietary?

    • Is that even possible? Got 2 subs to connect just in case 🤞

  • +5

Got this for under $600 soon after release last year and thought that was a good price, but sub-$400 is excellent value. Sound is great for TV/movie watching, gameplay and music (I don’t need or want a bass module), especially for such a compact unit.

The only minor irritant is that on occasion there’s no sound when switching from one source to another, but this is quickly addressed by turning it off and on again or after installing a firmware upgrade. (This may also be attributable to LG’s seemingly constant upgrades for the TV.) Without this glitchy behaviour, it’d be the perfect value soundbar—definitely would still buy again at this price.

    • This is super irritating for voice acting in video games where the BGM switches off. you lose the first word of every dialogue because of speaker lag.

I'm LG + Bose 700 and experience it.

  • hmm should i upgrade my yamaha YAS model bought in 2016 ?

    • Interested also, im in the same boat

      • Same boat here. YAS208

    • YAS201 here. considering the same thing.

    • Just upgraded my 208 to the Samsung Q930C. Night and day difference in sound. Got fed up with the 208 disconnecting all the time.

    • I just did. So far so good. Only bad thing was needing to download an app and make an account to get all the settings.

    • I upgraded from a YAS-107 to this and no regrets—except that I paid a couple hundred more 6 months ago!

  • Are these things at the point where they can replace a proper surround setup yet?

    • +1

No, but for most non-audiophiles at least it’s terrific value when you consider the price, convenience and form factor trade-off.

Don’t buy this if you’re expecting the exact same quality as a “proper surround setup” (or lots of bass). Do buy it if you want a massive upgrade from TV speakers or an older soundbar.

      • Ok cheers,

Was more curious in that if we move homes what would be the best solution to getting rear surround sound without running cables. I guess there are wireless speakers now that I could hook up the transmitter to the rear surround output on by HT amp?

  • Damn. I went off to do a little product research for 10 minutes and my Amazon cart is now empty and now OOS. I snoozed and loosed :(

    • Quick off to JB …. scatter brained!!!

    • Still in stock !
Not sure why its market OOS ?

    • I just bought it from Amazon, 3 left but more stock on the way, apparently.

  • Compare to the klipsch how does this fare ?

  • Wondering why the big discount on this model everywhere?

  • Arrgghh, should I hold out for a discounted 930c or get this?

    • +2

I can't resist, bought from Amazon to replace my 5 y/o Yamaha ATS-1080B. Got another ~15% off the price with 5% discount on Amazon gc bought with 10% discounted Coles debit mastercard + 1.4% shopback cashback.

I'm excited with my first Dolby atmos speaker, haha!

      • +1

        This man(dolorian) knows the Way.

        • OZb community has taught me well!

  • I have a Windows 10 PC connected to my non-smart 4k TV via HDMI. If I leave the Pc connected via HDMI and connect the Bose speaker to the TV via the optical output connection. Will the PC simply use the Bose speakers via the optical output over the HDMI connection?

    • Possibly - but be aware that you can't send Atmos via optical. Maximum of 5.1 via optical.

      • Ah, These are all new terms for me, Is Dolby Atmos a large difference in quality? I've been trying to find info regarding the Optical not supporting Atmos but am turning up empty - Do you have a reference?

  • I just bought a full price bose 600 with a 15% mix and match bundle with a tv from JB last week. Any idea if i could bring back the full price Bose for a price difference refund ?

    • Doubtful. If it's a bundle deal, they likely won't unbundle it for a price difference refund.

  • Just paid $373 w/ discounted GC's after JB price matched HN.

I call that a good day, thanks BG.

  • I already have the Bose Solo soundbar, is this going to be that much better?

Friend has the Bose 900 and it is amazing, but they have the 75square house to resonate with it

  • How much was it on Amazon? It's sold out

    • Amazon was price matching Gerry at $385

  • +1

Oh ok thanks. It's 389 click and collect from my local JB. Is this model good? Mixed reviews about the base being tinny. Currently using Sony Bravia built in speakers that sound like garbage.

    • im sure its better than garbage

    • +1

It will be significantly better, by 100x.

I'm using the Bose Solo and it's far better than the TV speakers.

Bose just gives that warm accurate sound.

Bass will be tiny as there is no proper subwoofer module - you can always purchase it separately.

      • I ended up buying just the soundbar and agree with your summary after using it. Good value imo

  • -1

    Dammit!

  • Worth asking for further discount on live chat. Got one for $377 instead.

    • Did stock come back on Amazon? still showing OOS

      • I meant JB. Amazon won’t lower down price even if you get on live chat.

  • +2

Also bought the Bose Bass Module 500 for 530$ after pricematching The Good Guys. I believe the orig price is 699$. The Good Guys, HN, Amazon also sell it for 545$.

Wish it was the 700 model but that is 1K and-a-bit {Amazon 995$). The Soundbar is even greater with the module connected. The clarity, spaciousness and clear separation are further accentuated and nicely complimented making the sound meatier. Also timbre is great.

In a nutshell, a great soundbar to have now at this moment.
