  • Do we need seperate Bass unit? Or this is enough

    • +11

If you are expecting deep rumbling explosions during movies, a little sound bar with 2" drivers is going to be terrible at bass.

If you are expecting a soundbar to give better speech clarity to TV dialogue, then 2" drivers are fine.

      • +1

        It has A.I. bass

        • +2

But is it also HD bass?

          • @Kommodore: From Bose…
"Immerse yourself in the intoxicating sonic spectacle provided by the Bose Smart Soundbar 600. Harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence, the speaker presents a harmonious blend of super fast bass and detailed low frequencies, propelling the rhythm that resonates right through your senses. The AI optimizes the textured yet smooth treble, ensuring a balanced and organic palpability, akin to an aural taste of nature's sweetest fruits.

Meanwhile, HD sound brings a stunning clarity to every note, as the airy midrange floats the vocals through an ocean of incredibly lush liquidity. This fusion of technology also enables an astounding quietness around instruments, bestowing each sound element its own distinct space within the refined soundstage. The Bose Smart Soundbar 600 doesn't just play music; it delivers a sophisticated and immersive auditory journey, ripe with dynamic flair and a surprising sense of immediacy. Revel in the richness of the harmonic textures and let the AI-powered Bose Smart Soundbar 600 redefine your listening experience."

    • Yes, you need bass module

    Holy smokes Batman, good find!

  • Post says jb hifi gift cards; where do I get them with a discount?

  • +2

Why price matching? Coles had 15% bonus on Myer Gift Card that offer finished on Tuesday. If anyone stacks with those even bigger savings.

    • Fair, missed that, I just got 5% off Myer GCs via Macquarie Marketplace.

    • +3

      15% bonus means ~13.05% off
By using Mastercard and Ultimate card makes it 14.5% off (I didn't use the Prezzee $150 Gift Card)

But most importantly, Myer only does delivery for this.

      • Fair point if you double stack Mastercard and Ultimate card offers then better savings. Surely people should know by now the tricks of saving the most.

      • Havent tried the ultimate cards before, how do they swap over to myers or do you use them directly with Myers? And if they swap over, can you set the exact amount you want or are they set amounts?

Actually just checked the other ozbargain ultimate post and the part where they say which stores it supports. I couldnt find Myers?

        • You can't swap to Myer gift card. I was referring to the Mastercard deal double stacked with Ultimate gift card offer. If you have those the option it's to price match at JB HI-FI.
If you have already purchased the Myer card 15% bonus deal then you can buy directly from Myer.

          • @Scrooge McDeal: Damn, I was trying to figure out how to use ultimate with Myer and missed out. Should have just bought it I guess.

    • We could go one step further. If one had stockpiled 7.48% Coles MC gift card from months ago, use that to buy the 15% bonus Myer last week. Effectively paying ~$313 for this. Close to 20% off.

  • Could stack with commbank $10 cashback (targetted offer)

    • +1

I've also received cashback email confirmation $7.07 from cashrewards

      • Nice forgot about the Commbank one

  • +1

    Does it have aux in?

    • Yes according to rtings

The Bose Soundbar 600 is decent for music. Its frequency response is quite balanced and even, with a clear and accurate reproduction of voices and lead instruments in your favorite tunes. You can adjust its output, too, thanks to its bass and treble levels. That said, there's not a lot of rumble in the low-bass, given that it's a standalone bar. You can improve its bass reproduction by adding a separate sub from the manufacturer, but it'll have to be a separate purchase.

    PROS
    Bass and treble adjustments.
    Gets loud.
    CONS
    No EQ.
    Some compression at max volume.

    • Caveat that I am not an expert on audio, but I wouldn't put much credence in that rtings review, just from the photo of their test setup. I guess they can claim that they are simulating a living room TV setup, but if they wanted to do a proper job of testing the gear and not the room acoustics, the soundbar wouldn't be right up against the wall like that. The secondary reflections they're getting off the back wall really limits the time window they can measure for impulse response.

Instead they are just trying to wow the reader with a picture of moar microphones.

  • Tempting and a great price OP. Seriously wondering how this would compare to the Samsung q930? If the sub was purchased separately then the pricing would be similar.

    • I am wondering the same, how mush is the Sub for the Bose?

      Edit:
Bose website has the Sub for $699.95
      Surround speakers $529.95

Still quiet a fair bit more compared to the Q930…

  • +2

Waiting for Amazon algorithm to kick in….

    • +2

      Still waiting 😂

  • I'm a little skeptical but admit I am not the expert in sound. Would something like this really be better than say a Z623 2.1 setup?

I'd imagine voices would be clearer, but is that the extent of it?

(I've currently got a Z623 setup plugged into my TV which seems reasonable and powerful enough, but I don't really have anything to compare it to other than the internal TV speakers).

    • +1

      Be better in which way?
They are completely different set-ups, and this is way more expensive (RRP), so it is a bit hard to compare.
It will probably be neater, and it definitely sounds better, and it's got Dolby Atmos, but with less bass due to the lack of a subwoofer.
Connection wise, it is also a lot better, you have Bluetooth, HDMI eARC, optical and airplay.
I guess it comes to how much the bass is important to you and if you think it is worth to pay more for all the connectivity and stuff.

      • Better in terms of sound quality for the cash. I would've thought a soundbar like that couldn't really deliver on quality and that the 'Dolby Atmos' branding might be a gimmick.

I currently just use the aux port and use the TV remote. Not exactly modern, but I can control it with the remote — not sure of 'digital' sound would be a noticeable improvement.

    • +1

Would something like this really be better than say a Z623 2.1 setup?

…. probably not noticeably. The Logitech is pretty basic, but it's got a bigger driver or two.

The Bose is going to be a series of tiny little drivers. Bose is… not well engineered hifi. It's well marketed hifi, usually with a muddy bass tilt to it to impress the punters. Something 'better' that wouldn't cost the earth would just be something simple like some decently sized active bookshelf speakers.

The Bose (and any soundbar) looks sleeker, which is important to some.

      • I guess this was my initial thinking. The drivers would be fairly small. Sleekness doesn't really bother me — I can house then easily on the unit.

        • There's an old hifi joke that's been around for decades… Better Off Spending Elsewhere.

From the Bose gear that I have tried (admittedly not all that much), it's true.

  • +1

Has it for few months with rear speaker. you seriously need Bass module.

  • How about the Bose Soundbar 900?
    Still $1000+

  • +1

Thanks OP, bought one although I don't really need it :)

    • +1

If you don't need it, care to change your shipping address to me and I'll pay you the purchase price +10% :)

I really wanted one and snoozed too long :(

  • Tempted but know very little about home theatre, do you need to use the Bose branded bass module or can you just hook up any subwoofer to the soundbar?

Thank God my broker called me today and reminded me about interest rates…. lol. Apparently it will be rising 5-6 more times. If not I would have be tempted to get this.

Good buy for those who got one!

    • +1

      5-6 times? doubtful, but possible

      • When are they gonna fire that rba guy? What a dud.

        • You read my mind!

        • +7

Until inflation is under control, anyone opposing rate rises should be fired.

        • Well what would you do differently? The economy is red hot with inflation. There's no AI models that'll make it automatically cool down the economy

          • @fuzor: Well, for starters I wouldn't have lowered interest rates to the point everyone thought they could borrow $500k and pay it back at 2% for the foreseeable future. It's too late now. He was too slow to move away from the record lows.

            • @WhyAmICommenting: Rates are set to enable and manage growth of the economy at a sustainable pace. For Australia, this puts sustainable inflation at 2-3%. Rates are what the RBA can control, whilst other governmental bodies control government spending and taxes. RBA must raise and lower rates as required to achieve said 2-3%

        • -3

Dude at rba has no control on inflation. Federal govt does

          • @mlburnian: They both have some influence.

    • -5

I hope they go up a few times more as it would help to increase the return of my rentals, or at least make my tenants feel better about what they are paying.

      • +1

With a good investment property, very good time to be cash flow positive on it

I waited for a jb price match chat so I could pick up local stock. Missed out on the Myer deal when they refused. Dang. Snooze ya lose.

    • Did they provide a reason why they refused?

      • Stated low stock so I say they were monitoring the Myer site.

    • Same

  • Yeah, snoozed too long.

  • The discounted price is a fair one for this unit imo. $600+ is a bit too much to ask for a unit that can only connect to boss branded sub.

  • +1

If anyone is interested, I have a jb price match link expiring at 12am. Let me know and I can PM :)

    • Interested, uh 2 mins left?

  • Price updated to $599 overnight and still OOS…price error perhaps?

    • +1

Nah, just got sold out really quickly within the first hour of this post yesterday. Gotta be quick!

  • Managed to grab one from jbhifi after price match and waited for long while calling to noticed out of stock. Refused by Jb sales and other store. Some how mange to convince to the store rep and bought one. Thanks for the post OP.

    • Which store? the Myer's updated to $599, did you price match yesterday when it was $389?

      • Yes, I did it yesterday and collected last night. Midland WA.

  • Would have bought another at this price. OOS
