Description

The Dark Ages might be drawing to a close, but Europe is still in turmoil. Petty lords vie against beleaguered kings who struggle to assert control over their fragmented realms. The Pope calls for a Crusade to protect the Christians in the Holy Land even as he refuses to relinquish control over the investiture of bishops - and their riches. Now is the time for greatness. Expand your demesne and secure the future of your dynasty. Fill your coffers, appoint vassals, root out traitors and heretics, introduce laws and interact with hundreds of nobles, each with their own agenda.
A good lord will always need friends to support him. But beware, as loyal vassals can quickly turn to bitter rivals, and some might not be as reliable as they seem… Stand ready, and increase your prestige until the world whispers your name in awe. Do you have what it takes to become a Crusader King?
Crusader Kings II explores one of the defining periods in world history in an experience crafted by the masters of Grand Strategy. Medieval Europe is brought to life in this epic game of knights, schemes, and thrones…

      How is that neg worthy?

      • +5

        It's not.

    • +8

What does that mean? The game was released, then later there was dlc.
You can have it for free, the same product that they sold on release. If you like it, you might one day buy the dlc after you have enjoyed the original game.

    • +4

But you can get the base game for free!

And, conveniently, all the DLC's are currently half price on GOG should you decide that you do want the full experience.

      • -1

Regardless of this specific example, releasing a game and making it playable only with making customers having to purchase so many dlcs is not really something to defend.

        • +3

I guarantee you the base game is at the very least "playable"

        • +2

That would be a more valid point if they weren't giving the game away for free.

I certainly wouldn't buy it (or any other Paradox strategy games that seem to take a similar approach to DLC) at full price. But there is absolutely nothing to lose by getting the base game for free, and with the DLC at half price you could probably get the complete package (or as much of it as you need / want to feel like you're getting enough of the "full experience") for a not-unreasonable price.

    • Free to play anyway. I can’t see how to add to library on my phone…

      • +1

On the Steam app on my PC, it had a button to add the game to my library.

    • cheers, I now have it in two places I probably won't play from
      .

    Deus Vult !

this is the vanilla version, wow that takes me back in time. This game is great with all the DLC, but after some time to adapt i now rather CK3. I love paradox games but i hate their DLC strategy (even if it does help liven things up along the game's lifespan)

    Is this kosher?

    • +4

depends .. do you consider freeing the holy land kosher ?

    • Pick a Christian lord and make sure his dynasty survives.

That's a big negative, Captain. In fact, you should probably uninstall it next time you travel to the middle east.

People are complaining modern day games are not exciting enough. Now this is a way to add a real element of danger!

There are also 2 DLC / Addons for free as well:

    Songs of Yuletide

    South Indian Portraits 5

Not sure why this is negged to hell. Normal price for all DLC'S is 250 Euro. If paying half price 125 Euro. Even Google has to disclose if there are in-app purchases.

Nothing wrong in releasing DLC'S and developers need to be paid for their own time. $125 Euros to get a complete experience seems excessive to myself.

Being downvoted just because facts don't align with people liking truth is a dangerous slope…..Just my 2 cents. This is the last I'll comment on this matter and it will be interesting to see as a social response on how people respond to this comment

$148 for CK2 Imperial Edition, or you can buy the Royal Edition for less if you're some kind of peasant. Then you have S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 for a mere $170. Of course you can pirate, or wait until they go free officially. I got quite a few CK2 DLC for free on Steam.

The base game alone is complex enough and will give you countless hours of entertainment. DLCs are cool but definitely not necessary to have a good time.

      Fair enough. 👍
