Similar deal to one posted here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/781602. But you are not locked into a 24 month(!) plan.

Samsung S23 128GB + Samsung Watch5 LTE 44mm for $798

How?

The catalogue states $400 off ANY Samsung S23 ($749 for 128GB model) if you go on $49 month-to-month. The critical information summary says that you can leave after one month.

      • Because who's going to buy it for a higher price when they can get it new at $749?

  • +1

Can I do this for the s23 ultra 512gb,
    1949 - 400 + 49 = 1598
The education store is selling it for 1799.2.
So should be better to buy it this way?

  • Do I need to call to cancel the plan? Last time, it took me a long time on the phone to cancel the Optus data plan to get the Samsung tablet. Can I just port the number out and they stop the plan?

    • +1

Use telstra app or login to account online and cancel it (if u don’t need that number), or u can port out.

  • +1

Jb T&C: just found these, and those were not shown by Jb hifi staff or signed.

    • Sorry that I am not good at reading those T&C. Will I need to pay back the $400 discount and/or $100 gift card if I cancel the plan in the first month?

      • +1

It may be $400 one (pro rata), but it was not where mentioned on the advertisement or on the plan of Telstra signed. So it is still questionable, and not made it clear for consumers.

      • +1

The catalogue is pretty clear that the minimum plan cost is $49 (ie 1 month). So once that is paid at the time of purchase, technically you have paid the minimum plan cost and can cancel straight away. False advertising if you then have to pay back the $400.

        • 100%, there is no mention of 12/24m condition. And there was no voucher receive anyways, it was discount offered on the mobile as per the advertisement. So it may end up as class action if they decide to try to get discount back lol

          • @dealhunting007: Got an S23 a few days ago with this deal in Perth, signed up for a new number then cancelled it in the same day. I've paid them the $49 for the month, in their T&C's this is non refundable, the service is cancelled immediately and the 'voucher repayment fee' for my plan is labelled 'NA'.

I'm still suspicious of a deal too good to be true, but their T&Cs do seem to allow it. They have my credit card details now, but I don't think they'd legally be able to recoup that money…

            • @tendercoins: should of used the 60gb up before u cancelled.

              • @joe8ss: I'm just happy for the $400 ($351) off the phone lol. I only get through about 7GB per month and have a mass of unused prepaid data which hasn't got long to expire.

I must be getting old. These youngun's and their 60 jigga bytes per month…

  • +1

From reading the plan details there is no voucher issued for a $49 plan. Jb are just discounting the phone you buy. If the terms you sign state there is no voucher then hard for them to claim the $400 i feel.

  • +3

Just got this deal, I went the s23+.
The $49 plan you get charged $49 immediately from Telstra, but can cancel any time.
The phone we got the $400 off, which at the counter they use a gift card for.
Also got the $100 gift voucher after the purchase. I didn't even ask about this, as soon as I said I wanted this deal they said it also comes with the $100 voucher.
Additionally I was with Telstra prepaid so they just created a new number, cancelled the prepaid and transferred the number across.

    • Did you have to ask about the $100 voucher or did they just give it to you? Seems a bit hit and miss as to whether you get it or not (store dependent). Great deal either way still!

      • +1

No, as soon as I mentioned I was interested in this deal, they said it came with a $100 voucher

        • What store did you go to? Struggled with mine!

          • +1

            @shaz92451: Castle Hill Homemaker Centre

            • @crazy horse: Sweet thanks !

            • +1

@crazy horse: spoke with Isaac just now at this store,

they will do an extra straight $100 off the price instead and confirmed can still get the $400 gc with $49 M2M plan.

              • @impoze: Good work. I used the gift card to get some galaxy buds 2 pro so didn't mind getting gift voucher. But always good do get the discount straight up.

    • Thanks just did the same at JB chadstone

  • The sticker in store explicitly says "over 24 months"

    • That's not what the catalogue says so I'd be questioning that. The 24 months is for the higher value offers.

      • The $49 plan is minimum cost $49

  • Does anyone have the details of the $100 gift voucher? The shop didn't mention to me (I'm buying it now) and I don't want to miss it.

    • +1

Just click on any s23 on the website, there should be two deals. One is the galaxy watch, the other is the 100$ GC

      • +1

The terms and conditions for the one hundred dollar voucher do state not valid with other jb mobile offers. Anyone that got the voucher and also got the discount phone is very lucky.

        • I got $100 voucher without asking for it, store manager did the contract so it's a hit and miss really

  • Denied the $100 GC at Liverpool Sydney store

    • Yeah it is a hit and miss with regards to the bonus $100 gc. I got it yesterday without asking as the one who was helping me told me that there is also a bonus $100, watch and I can cancel the plan today or on the 29th day

    • go to another store. its definitely included.

    • At DFO Homebush, I asked for the $100 gift card but they said I cannot have the $400 and the $100.

For the $400, they did issue a gift card after signing the plan. Then I used the gift card to pay for the phone.

      • +1

I just received a call from highpoint JB HI-FI offering me the $100 gift card. She said she got it wrong and head office confirmed it's included (I purchased the phone yesterday and they said no). Heading into the store this afternoon to collect 😁
If head office is saying to issue it, maybe insist they contact head office to confirm.

        • I went back and showed your post but it didn't help. They insisted.

          • +1

@Jeeyang: The inconsistency is so frustrating!

    • +1

Got it without a problem at Top Ryde Sydney store. Signed 49 plan (confirmed it can be cancelled at any time and no need to give back the voucher, but 69/89 plans can't due to 24 month commitment required), got 400 gift card used towards the phone at the counter, and received a 100 gc after the transaction. But I had to speak to another guy on site as the first dude insisted I need to give the voucher back if I cancel early and no 100 gc for the 49 plan.

      • Wow, even same store has different results.

  • anyone been to wetherill park jb and got the $100 gc?

  • For anyone in Perth, I got the deal including $100 gift card with no issues at JB Hi-fi Carousel. I just mentioned I'd seen the $100 gift card on the website, he checked the expiry date on the offer (tomorrow) then spoke to the cashier to make sure they gave it to me.

  • I got a new number with this $49 plan. I thought I can put two SIMs in the s23 ultra but turned out to be incorrect. Now I want to transfer it to a esim. But I could not find how to do it.

    • You need to check with your mobile operator on converting physical Sim to eSim

  • Thanks, got the 256GB model and the $100 gift voucher.

  • +1

Thanks OP, I wish I had seen this a few days ago so I would have had a chance at the $100 gift card. Still, $798 total for S23 and watch is a great deal.

  • Can I sign up for this if I'm already on another JB telstra plan?

    • New number probably

  • Got the deal at JB Westfield Penrith. No $100 gift card though.

    • If you contact them for a JB Deal beforehand using the current HN offer with a $100 GC as the comparison you can get a further discount.

      • Can you elaborate on this?

        • +1

Ask the online team to try and match the current HN offer. They’ll give a further discount which you can present in store. Just make sure you find a store that will honour the discount in conjunction with the phone plan.

          • @Bumble21: When chatting with the online team, do you need to send them a link to the HN offer you're talking about? Would you mind sharing it, please? Or do you just say 'Can you match the Harvey Norman S23 offer?' and they know what to do?

    • Promotion $100 GC on JB website ended on 18th Jun already.

  • How long do we think the watches will take to arrive? I ordered an S23 Ultra on March 3 and it arrived from Samsung on April 29th so almost 2 months. I ended up selling that one I received as I went overseas and was planning to get the GST back before leaving but they took so long to deliver.

    • Mine is supposedly 'shipped' already but I've read that doesn't mean anything until you get a tracking number. Which, as you've experienced…can take a while

      • Yes last time the shipped appeared 6 weeks before it arrived. I called up and was told that they are replacing their logistics system. Next time it was Covid. Third time it was due to a large number of orders.

  • Wouldn't really be able to flog it new in box for more than $600~ anyway I guess. Good deal if you want a new S23 I suppose.

    • galaxy watch 5 is worth at least $300, this is LTE version as well

      • What it's worth and what you'd get for it are two different things though.
There's literally dozens of sealed, unopened Watch 5's on Gumtree and Marketplace atm. I'd hazard a guess if the demand was as high as the supply, Samsung wouldn't be giving them away.

  • $100 GC on S23 phones no longer available, tile removed from the phone page. Only Galaxy watch one now

  • I just completed this at JB Artarmon. They agreed to match the HN deal, which included a $100 gift card, and they applied it directly to my purchase.

  • I have cancelled the phone plan. They didn't mention I need to pay anything. I suppose they will not secretly charge my card later.

    • Well the plan has a minimum cost of $49 so you will see that on your account otherwise Telstra would not have the minimum cost.

    • So are jb hi fi still offering the $49 month to month with $400 of the phone cost?

  • If I'm already on an Optus business plan that I need to keep, is there anything stopping me from buying the $49 deal, cancelling the $49 plan with Telstra and putting the Optus sim card in it?

    • +1

That's exactly what I did, and enjoyed the data for a month.

      • Thanks, been years since I've had to deal with new phone shenanigans

  • You will still be charged the $49 for the first month. Telstra take the monthly payment up front on these plans, not collect it once the month has passed.

  • Can you get a new number or do you have to transfer your existing one?

    • +1

Yes you can get a new number when you apply.

I got 2 phones today with this promo.

One was for a new number and the other I transferred my existing Telstra number onto this one as it was cheaper and I needed a new phone.

      Worked fine for both cases.
Phone is not locked to Telstra, my wife could use her Vodafone sim in it.

      • Yeah sweet. Was only gonna use the telstra plan for a month and cancel to get the discount, didn't want to port my number to telstra and back again. Thanks for the help mate

  • Did this today. Good deal, thanks.

  • Can you pay an extra $100 to get the 256gb model with this deal?

    • Yes. The deal is $400 off the current price of any s23 phone at jb hifi. You just have to take up a $49 Telstra plan.

    • Did it just this morning no issues whatsoever

      • +1

Is it for s23+, i just asked in store and they told me the $49 plan is only for s23. For s23+ i need to get the $89 plan, for 24mths contract, phone is free (not actually free :) ) .

        • $100 extra to get 256GB model is for S23 only as it only comes in 128/256 variants. The $49 plan is indeed only for the S23 model as per the details listed in the linked catalogue and on the website…

The equivalent storage upgrade for S23+ is $200 extra to upgrade from base 256GB to 512GB variant.

        • @ryan7x I got the s23+ on the $49 plan last sunday with the $100 cashback too so either go back to the store and have a go at them or go to another store

  • Ok I went in store today to take up this offer and the rep told me I could do better taking up the $89 (it’s the $99 p/m plan with a $10 monthly credit applied) / 24m which includes the phone cost entirely plus a $250 gc

    Payout is $766 + 1 month.

Etc on contract shows 766… so let’s hope it all works out.

    Means total cost is 856 - $250gc - $300 watch resale = $306 for phone

    • Hello, how did you get the $766?
Can you please link the etc that says $766 for the payout?
I want to know because when I bought mine with the $49/month contract they threatened me and said that I will have to pay the $400 gc back if I terminate the plan early.

      Thank you

      • There's no contract on the $49 plan, it's a month to month plan so you can cancel any time without penalties.

        • Yeah I thought so too and stated that it's a M2M plan.
What paperwork do you guys get after you signed the $49/month plan?. The didn't give me any paperwork, I signed 2 docs (one on the paper and one on their computer). I only got the jb hifi receipt.

          Thanks

    • This doesn't sound right? $766 is the voucher repayment fee if you cancel the contract early. What about the etc for the 24 month contract?

      • Curious also. https://www.telstra.com.au/help/critical-information-summari… doesn't seem to mention any ETC just paying the Voucher fee.

        Does that mean Galaxy s23 Ultra is $1649 - $1400 off + 766.67 voucher fee = $1015.67 ?

        • Yep that should be correct. Would call and check to be sure - but my Rep explained she had sold dozens of these deals since the deal has been running and no issues for customers.

      • +1

checked with the store today. these are month to month plans. So $766(voucher fee) +$89(first month plan fee) would be ETC.

    • @jackstar86 Is there an reference you could provide please to the $250 GC?
Is this deal only for the S23 128GB? Could it be upgraded to 256GB with extra cost?

Can you pay for any part of these plans with JB HiFi gift cards? With the OP deal I assume you can pay with JBHiFi GC as you are buying the handset, but with this $0 deal what methods can you pay with?

  • Thanks OP, finally bit the bullet and upgraded from my Galaxy S9. Went in store yesterday to get this deal (256 GB model). Am planning on cancelling the plan as 60GB is about the amount of data in use in a year 😂 Process was pretty easy, though I didn't bother asking about the $100 gift card as I couldn't see any signs for it and I believe that offer expired on the 18th? I was also too overwhelmed by how noisy and crowded the store was. The staff member who assisted me said that it's only on weekends and public holidays that they get smashed like that, so if you can go during the week, it'll likely be a much more peaceful process.

    • Hi @labyrinthinecities,
Do you know what the final outright costs will be if you terminate instantly (or closer to the 1st month cycle?), just wanted to check that theres no hidden/suprise termination charges.

      Assuming its:
      s23 256gb + Free watch = $1249
      Discount = -$400
      1st Month charges = -$49

Total cost incurred if cancelled on the first month: $898

      • +1

Hi @Jul92 - I can't give a definitive answer as I haven't cancelled yet, however, based on replies elsewhere in this thread, the terms and conditions, the text of the advertisement, as well as what the staff said in store, that figure looks correct, and there are no hidden/surprise termination charges. The minimum cost for the phone plan is $49 dollars and since you pay that on the spot when you sign up, if you cancel before the next payment due date, that should be all. Hope that helps!

        • I have the $49 plan. It’s charged in advance so as soon as you sign up the charge is made within a few days. The 5g network speed is amazing. I do live about 500 metres from a 5g tower though.

      • Yes that’s right. And you get a watch which you can get any $250 on Facebook marketplace possibly.

  • Can I still get the $100 gift card with '$400 off ANY Samsung S23 ($749 for 128GB model) if you go on $49 month-to-month' deal? Is there a link I can point to?

    Appreciate any help

    • +1

put on your sweetest puppy-dog eyes and ask politely – you might just get it!

  • Can you combine this with a price match?
