6 Weeks Free after 30 Days, 60,000 Bonus Woolworths Rewards Points (Worth $300), 2- & 6-Month Waiting Period Waived @ Bupa

2150
EOFYOFFER

First post please be gentle :)

Up to 10 weeks free on eligible hospital and extras products (6 weeks free after 30 days plus 4 weeks free after 13 months) + $300 worth Everyday Rewards dollars (on third month) + 2 & 6 month waits waived on extras (from join date).

If my understanding is right, for most profit you keep policy for 72-90 days then cancel where you get everything above except the 4 weeks free.

Eligibility can be seen on https://www.bupa.com.au/campaigns/health-insurance/ten-weeks… but in summary must not held Bupa health insurance in the last 12 months prior to join date, for policy commences by 30/07/2023 and provide BUPA with everyday rewards membership number within 30 days of joining.

  • Anyone know if this stacks with referral?

  • Wait so this offer you can take the bare basic and still get the $300?

  • Why is no one talking about the 2 & 6 month waiting periods waived? That's great since i didnt have extras cover prior to this.

    • pretty much every provider waives these so nota huge selling point

  • I'm currently on a couple private health insurance with Australian Unity. It looks like there's no advantage from signing up to a couple vs single on bupa, especially since 2 x single will get double the rewards.

Is there any issues with converting couple to a single PHI? Do I just sign up with bupa and tell them my previous PHI details? and same with my partner?

The back of AU card has 01 and 02 listing each individual. I assume I just need to provide those details for transfer certificate?

    • you could tell them you are separated now I guess

  • Would this deal stack with the referral? Referrer gets $100 gift card but referee gets nothing??

  • The Medibank offer is another one to look for. Upto 170000 Velocity points plus 6 weeks free. Minimum earn will be 65K Velocity points.

  • Why am I not asked to input promotion code - EOFYOFFER during application process?

    • +1

      You enter code during payment

  • I pay my insurance fortnightly to AHM, and I just paid another fortnight payment a couple days ago, do I sign up for this and pick a day my insurance is currently paid to or do I start it from today and AHM refunds me the remainder of the money? I pay like $120 a fortnight so don't wanna lose any of that money.

  • finding bupa very expensive compared to HBF, extra $23pm for same benefits, might only be worth joining for the bonus then leaving once you get the 6 weeks & 60,000pts

  • can you hold 2 combined covers with different insurers at the same time?

  • is it ok for me to sign up on the cheapest state and use the stuff in a different state?

  • Which policies are eligible?

Is it any hospital and extras covers?

  • Is there a fake NT address i can set my Bupa up with as it is basically half price up there

    • wow, whats that all about 50% off

      • Don't know but just wonder what will happen if i put a random address in

  • +2

I'm with Medibank, have been for about two years. I called them up and told them I saw this Bupa offer and asked if they did pro rata refunds if I were to switch. After I was told yes (I already knew this), I enquired whether they had an offer to match for existing customers. He said as I hadn't had any offers since joining he could offer me 12 weeks free (6 weeks immediately and an additional 6 weeks after 12 months). Which I happily accepted!

    • I've been with HCF for 3 years. I joined Medibank for their LIVEBETTER promo to get 50000 live better points, which I thought would get me $400 off my premiums ($200 off is 25000 points), but it turns out you can only claim it once per year. I asked if they could swap me to another promo (they have one for 6 weeks free plus 25000 live better points or 6 weeks and 45000 velocity points). They refused, but HCF called me to win me back and offered me the max health funds are allowed to offer, 6 weeks free, and said to call back every year for 6 weeks.

I'm still considering the Bupa offer, but will likely stay with HCF.

      • Nice, that worked out pretty well for you then, if the policy prices/cover work out the same I'd just stay as well.

Hope they give the woolworths bonus points before the 6 free weeks ends… it says not until the 3rd month, hopefully at the start of the 3rd month.

  • I signed up on 21st June for policy to start on 22nd June 2023.

I have received my membership email as well as cover details and already redeemed optical yesterday at specsavers to stack with 50% off lens options.

I got an email this morning saying

    Premium paid by credit card **** **** **** 0000. Deductions start 22 June 2025.

When I log onto bupa it says

    Currently paid to
    31 Aug 2024
    Next direct debit
    22 Jun 2025

The paid to is fine given the free 6 weeks but why is the next direct debit in 2025?

    • query it now because I found at Madibank a never ending wait for customer service

      • Thanks. I called them and they said it is due to the 6 weeks free promo. I have paid up till 31st Aug 2024 and there is an automatic payment set in my account to cover the 'less than 365 days due to the free weeks I am getting'.

It is normal as the 'next direct debit' is for full payment and the payment in between is only partial.

  • +1

I signed up with credit card as payment option, was told it automatically counts as direct debit so will get bonus

  • I linked my rewards card during the signup process.

I cannot find it when I login to myBupa….

  • 45,000 velocity points from the Medibank deal is better than this $300 Woolies points/30,000 Qantas points, no? Why is this deal much more popular (upvotes)?

    • I did a compare and Medibank comes out more expensive overall for the cover I wanted.

    • +1

Well for one, many of us are probably already with (or have been with) Medibank.

Irrespective of bonuses, I'll be saving $60/m on my premiums switching from Medibank to Bupa.

  • Signed up today got an email they are finalising my membership

  • How long between the email titled
    Your application for PHI Cover
that says We are finalising your membership

and getting membership details? I signed up on Monday 26th (to start that day) and nothing more yet.

    • Don't know still waiting it's been 24 hours for me. Maybe will chat to them today

    • +1

I signed up Wednesday night, and received membership number next week Tuesday morning. So just short of a week.

      • Right looks like a huge backlog causing delays

    • Got my membership number this morning

      • Same no email but a text message

  • My wife and I dont have PHI.
When we select couple, the premiums increase quite a bit. When we select single, its cheaper. Any suggestions what to do in this case and if its okay to have two single policies?

    • +1

There's no issues with having 2 singles policies. Just easier to manage with 1.

Price should still be about the same tho when you add it all up.

  • Basic Accident Only Hospital with Freedom 50 Extras cost around $200 a month that you have to pay for the first month.
Then you get 6 weeks free after your paid first month.
On 3rd month you get 60,000 everyday rewards points.

If all well and done, you pocket $100 profit for all the hassle of switching PHI and downgrade it.
Your waiting period might reset as well if you downgrade your cover.

Medibank has Live Better program/app that you can earn points equivalent to around $300/year. Do Bupa and other providers have similar program?

  • Anyone with claim experience?

Do they accept all health care providers - is there a way I can see the “recognised providers” (not the members first providers)

    • +1

Not with Bupa, just shared my experience with Medibank, it's usually the other way around.

If the health care providers are partnered with Medibank, you can claim on the spot and pay the gap if any. If they're not, you pay in full out of pocket and then submit your claim (receipt) with Medibank later.

As long as the health care provider is an accredited organisation, Medibank will accept your claim. I think most if not all health care providers are accredited anyway, they cannot operate illegally without an accreditation?

  • Signed up, thanks op. This is somehow better than my corporate plan.

  • Thanks OP. Used this to get better deal with my current provider HCF. Got 6 weeks free now and another 6 in 13 months. I can't believe i haven't been tried this before, well lesson learned.

    • Asked HCF to price match?

      • I think most PHIs could offer 6 weeks free every 12 months when you call them (ask to transfer to Customer Retention team) saying you're planning to switch provider, what's the better deal they can offer.

I've been doing this every year with Medibank. For anyone with Medibank, 1300 729 698 is their Retention Specialist line.

        • Wonder if they will offer 6 weeks to return after 3rd month here?

        • this is exactly what they said, they cannot give me more than what they allowed to be some 12% or something. I am just disappointed I have not done this over last 10 years….

      • I called them saying i want to cancel and on prompts selected the option for cancelling insurance…i guess it put me directly to their retention team. Note I have been with them for 10 yrs, no claims, was on corp plan which was not that good, so they took me off the corp plan and offered 6 weeks straight away and 6 after 13 months. given they could not give me $300 rewards dollars, they offered 2 extra weeks so total 12 weeks off.

  • Signed up, got confirmation and online access a week later, but seems my waiting periods served havent transferred yet from old provider, is it a matter of waiting longer or should I contact them?

    • Wait longer. You'll get an SMS when it has transferred.

  • Medibank hasn’t closed my account and I contacted online chat, they said there is a transfer request to BUPA but I need to call their 1300 and let the specialist finalise the request. Do I have to do this? And anyone has the same problem?

    • During bupa sign up, I remember there was a checkbox asking if you want bupa to cancel your previous PHI.

I had no issues with Australian Unity, bupa contacted them to cancel and request transfer certificate.

      • Yes I did check. That’s why Medibank’s online chat says there is a transfer request from BUPA but they don’t finalise it unless I call them. Just wondering if everyone called and if it will be transferred after a while if I don’t call them.

        • Yes same thing happened to me. Had to wait for Medibank to call me then asked them to close and after few days got a closure letter

          • @ady211: In the app it says next direct debit will happen tomorrow. I’m thinking if I don’t call them they will charge me tomorrow

            • @sicaboy: Yes possible hence I spoke with Medibank chat and then they called me

  • Has anyone got their Woolworths Rewards Points from this deal?

    • +1

SHould get it after 3 months.

  • So I put my start date as 1 July, but they didnt confirm my cover until 6th July, meanwhile, I had a dentist appointment on the 5th and used my Medibank cover. Medibank have refunded me my premium from after that, fair enough since I still used it. But Bupa charging me from the 1st rather than the 6th, essentially doubling up my PHI for 5 days. Maybe it will get fixed when the transfer certificate comes in. 5 days is like $100 on my plan.

    • You should have paid the dentist in full and claimed it back from Bupa later.

      • Problem with that is many dentists will waive the gap fee if you claim with PHI on the spot.

  • +3

My premium was $98.XX paid on 23 Jun 23. I was then charged an additional $65.XX one month later on 24 Jul 23.

My account now says paid until the 21 Sep 23so I assume that $65.XX is to cover the portion of the time until the September that isn't free.

I should get the points mid to late August and that will be $163 for 30,000 Qantas Points.

    • same here noticed i was charged $70 after a month cant get my head around what that was for.. my understanding was 6 weeks free after 30days? ????

      • Yeah look I’d have thought it was going to be one month paid, then 6 weeks free and another payment after that.

This way I think is technically better because otherwise I would have paid two months of premium. This is just one month plus a half month give or take.

        • Same thing here.

They refunded thd 2nd charge. Explanation was to align the payment period with the initial payment after the free 6 weeks.

My explanation is Bupa wants to make money 🤑🤑🤑😀.

          All good. Excellent deal.

          • +1

@vegemite2008: Did you have to call to have it refunded or automatic? Mine hasn't gone back into my account and was charged a week ago now.

            • @Pelicannn: I had to call them up to ask for the refund - took ages for them to check on the offer and said no idea why 2nd payment taken but happy to refund.

signed up 30th Jun and was told the reward points would be paid after 3 consecutive months of being a Bupa member, aka early Oct.

all in all, 2 months of paid membership for 6 weeks free + 60k reward points.

            • @Pelicannn: I had to call them.

  • +2

Received an SMS from BUPA saying my everyday rewards details were incorrect or missing in my application.

    Visit https://www.woolworthsrewards.com.au/partners/bupa/link-your… to confirm details.

    • Same here, but it's asking for policy number, what the heck is that?

      • +1

If you open up the bupa app and go to member, you'll see there is 2 digit number next to your name.

The field only accepts 2 digits so it lines up.

        • Thanks, seems so obvious now.

Hopefully I receive the points since I signed up on 30/07 but just linked it now (because of the text message they sent me saying the account didn't link)

  • +4

Signed up on the 23rd of June and received the points today, great promo thanks.

    • You just reminded me to check mine and I see I've received mine too. Thanks!

    • Cheers, just checked and got mine too :)

    • +1

      • Likewise…..received today.

      • Same. Thanks

  • Received email from BUPA today

    increase $0.84 per month

    😭

    • $0.84 more than my increase which came in at $0.00 :-)

  • If you cancel are you able to get a partial refund of the months premium?

    • +1

      Yes, you should.

  • I got an email from Medibank to join them back with 6 weeks off and 500$ as living better points. Anyone else in similar boat?

    • Yeap. same email.
