Electricity Providers (SA) from July 1?

Electricity-only providers in SA? Was with Sumo Energy but just received the email about the price from July 1 basically doubling from 32c to 64c (peak).

What providers are people shifting to? The energy made easy website still has the old prices so I can’t use that.

    Welcome to deindustrialisation Western world…

    Most of us can’t be bothered looking up every retailers rates (n=24 for SA), we’re waiting until they become effective from 1-Jul and get loaded into Energy Made Easy.

      That's why there is a central db that uses your bills

      • +4

        Yes, but the new rates may not have been loaded. To make an informed switch today you'd have to look up the new rates by retailer. Or am I missing something here?

    AGL & Origin are both around 50c from July 1. AGL feed-in is 15c for first 14kwh then 5c. Origin will be 6c. These prices are for AGL Solar Saver and Origin Everyday Rewards plans.

  • I'm currently with Origin in SA, got the price rise email yesterday so decided to check AGL

    Company Shoulder Peak Off-Peak Daily Supply Feed in
    Origin 27.775 56.430 33.396 107.459 12 (first 14 kWh) 6 (remainder)
    AGL 37.059 55.715 40.931 115.06 15 (first 14 kWh) 5 (remainder)

    Figure I'll stay with Origin for now as I currently don't average much above 14kWh per day at the moment

    • 5 feed in. I think my landlord would rather pump the electricity into the sea, the way he constantly complains about that rate. nevermind that he constantly boasts it already paid for itself many years ago…

  • SA AGL rates I was recently emailed for the 1-Jul changes

    controlled load
    0.3262 (0.3588 inc GST)
    peak
    0.5251 (0.5776 inc GST)
    off peak
    0.4020 (0.4422 inc GST)
    shoulder
    0.3459 (0.3805 inc GST)

    supply
    0.9692 (1.0661 inc GST)

    I’m in the same situation with Sumo. Crazy to think anyone would stay given a 100% price increase. I guess they are similar to ReAmped last year who were trying to get rid of customers. The energy market in Australia is seriously screwed, and these price increases are going to put more pressure on inflation and interest rates

    • Or probably sucked people in with the low prices and cashing in now when people cbf switching.

    Holy crap what is happening in SA! Your rate is 3 time higher than my anytime rate in VIC!

    Edit: never mind found out, SA closed all of its generators and now relies on solar and wind to power the state, meaning at times when there is no solar generation or wind power they must buy power from the wholesale market at ridiculously expensive prices. Crazy SA customers are paying the very high price of the government’s incompetence of removing baseline goal power before they had sufficient energy storage or plans for morning/nighttime peaks.

    • I'm not sure that's correct, I think Torrens Island power station is still running until 2026?

      • Ah you are right SA do have generation capacity, I think it was not mentioned in the ABC article I referenced in my comment because it’s a gas power plant and not coal, and the focus being on base load coal generation but in saying that this has me worried for SA:

        On 24 November 2022, AGL announced that it would bring forward full closure, and Torrens Island B would be retired on 30 June 2026.[11]

        The power plant has been gradually closing since 2015 and operates at 1/3rd capacity and will shut down in 3 years so hopefully by then SA has plans for backup otherwise I could only imagine the price pain!

      Isn’t it more because gas prices are sky high and SA relies on gas still when there’s not enough wind/solar?

      • Yep correct the ABC article I read did not even mention a gas power station in SA, but yeah with price of gas so high it would make sense the energy sold on the market would be more expensive then goal fired electricity

    • Your rates will be much the same in VIC come August 1st. VIC locked their rates til AUG 1, all the other eastern states are locked til JUL 1. Enjoy your last remaining month of not getting gouged 50c+ by electricity companies, courteousy of our electricity grid being sold off by the government.

        I've never understood the push for privatisation in general - adding a layer of profit will somehow make things cheaper??

          IKR. It's so frustrating that our tax dollars don't pay to own core services.
          WA didn't privatise their grid like everyone else, and the people are benefiting bigtime, pricing only going up about 1c a year. Looks like they'll be paying around 31-32c/kwh there from July.

          Based on how poorly this Labor government looks to be handling housing, they are a shadow of former Labor governements. I wish we could vote in some of the great governments of the past, Gough or Hawke.
          Only way we the people are going to get any power back is with a rise of independants and greens, minority governements where bullshit corporate interests aren't priorities 1, 2 and 3.

      • No one in Victoria charges 50 cents per kWh half of Victoria has already been repriced when the VDO was released. After reprice my rates are sitting at 28 cents. No where even close to the 60 cents OP is referring to in their reprice letter. Victoria will be many many years away from reaching a c kWh of anywhere close to 50 cents

      • Not gonna happen until the brown coal stations in vic shut down.

  • 1st Energy have sent me their changes:

    outta control

  • Sumo

    30th June vs 1st July

    DSP -110.0 Vs 126.50
    OPU - 21.78 Vs 52.80
    PU. - 32.78 Vs 63.80
    SU. - 19.5 vs 50.60

    They can go EAD.
    As of tomorrow they are goooone.

  • I’m thinking OVO energy for the month of July and then have another look around.
    Thoughts? What’s everyone with solar panels doing?

    • I just went with origin for the $150 then will have another look in a few months when the sun comes back

  • My rates have stayed the same since early 2021. Just checked the app and confirmed that I've been charged my old rates for both 1 and 2 July.

    Fingers crossed it stays that way!

  • I'm with Lumo and got the email about rates going up. Just called them up and they agreed to keep them the same. Technically I'm changing to a new plan but the rates are exactly the same. So my 2 cents is try calling your provider if you are happy with them and see what they will do.

    I just got my Tango increase;

    Peak 34.87 -> 48.40
    Off 15.4 -> 25.85
    Shoulder 17.49 -> 28.71

    Anyone know who is providing the best rates atm?

    • I'm with Energy Australia. Although their rate sucks, it's the best FiT for the first 15kWh per day. Won't be the best during summer though..

    • Tango have also reduced their FIT to zero, but have reduced the daily supply charge by 12 cents.

  • Nectr are still charging me 31c peak, 23c off peak and 17c shoulder. Only 2c FiT, but no complaints about the other rates. No idea why it’s so cheap and I’m pretty sure they don’t offer that to new customers.

    • that would be good for winter
