Just bought one from JB Hifi and thought it was a sweet deal. RAM will probably get an upgrade though and possibly an SSD later, but apart from that pretty good specs. Harvery Norman and Dick Smith currently have this for ~$1200 although they have had it around the $890 mark before I believe.

Sweet. Is it USB 2 or USB 3?

With Microsoft OS installed on it, it needs 8Gb of memory if we want a good experience.

does anyone know if i could buy a Nvidia graphics card and replace the AMD one?

    • Not easy (next to impossible), even if you can the cost of getting a Nvidia card may as well get a better laptop to start with.

      No, it's impossible.

The GPU is built into the motherboard. Unless you purchase a new motherboard with a 'better' built in GPU other wise you're out of luck.

      • thanks guys.

  • Nice deals, for those looking for a smaller monitor the l840 is 14" but i3, same gpu and i got it for 555 at jb, its listed for 571 with 15% atm

The current Lenovo deal is better, you can get the same hardware for around $750. Or, for this money, you can get a high-res screen, inbuilt 3G and onsite warranty. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/78208

  • I picked it up when HN was doing it for $870 in June, and aside from it having been sent back to Toshiba under warranty (HDD replaced) and the rubbish 1366x768 max res screen, it's a decent laptop.
The RAM definitely needs expanding though…

  • The Acer on there for the same price has identical specs except a better graphics card http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/acer/15-inch-notebook-sku…

  • Better off getting the $600 Acer Aspire from MSY. CPU is a decent step down, but it's almost identical in all other areas except the Acer's GPU which is a bit better. The CPU in this lappy is better, but it's not 280 dollars better.

Same goes for the Acer posted above as well, although that has the same GT640M GPU that the MSY one has, the CPU is really the only difference.

hmmm good price but personally I prefer the build quality and reliability of Toshiba lappy's over Acer

The obligatory Windows 8 is out in 2 month post. So chances are Windows 7 lappy will discounted even more as the date moves closer.

    • That's pretty unlikely. Windows 8 is such a massive sidestep from what is expected of a Windows OS I think you'll find Win7 will be offered in laptops right alongside Win8.

      • You do realise that W8 still have the desktop mode right?

  • 1366x768 blah. Might as well get a cheapo $4-500 laptop if you don't care about quality and only want to use it for word and facebook, it will do just as well.
