Philips GoZero Smart UV Drink Bottle Green or Yellow $65 (RRP $129) + Delivery ($0 to Metro Areas/ C&C/ in-Store) @ Officeworks

100

Apparently this is a water bottle with a UV light that sterilises your water. Not something I would buy, but noted it was on clearance when I was browsing for something else. Only green or yellow available at this price. May be good for travel or camping. Mixed reviews. I would imagine this is quite a niche product and will likely got on sale lots of places sometime in the near future, but perhaps I'm just not their target audience.

yeah i guess if you were mega remote camping..and really REALLY wanted to drink out of the stream without having to boil the water first…

If I was mega remote camping, I'd be even more confident about drinking out of the stream.

Anyone mega remote camping who wanted to live would have a proper water filter … e.g. sawyer squeeze

    • All jokes aside, I would just get a Sawyer Squeeze to filter my water properly in that case. No need to boil.

This UV stuff that claims to sterilize stuff is so gimmicky.

    Seriously people buy these things?

It's not your money tho so why be shouty cussing?

      Quick edit!

I don't think so, I think that's why they are being cleared.

I wonder whether the UV light neutralises the icky stainless steel taste of the water only a little while after being filled

    • +3

no idea but I avoid bottles where lips meet metal, specifically to avoid that metallic taste. I find even if a bottle has a steel interior. if the mouthpiece is plastic or silicone or anything non-metal I don't notice the metallic taste.

      • Interesting that a non-steel mouthpiece makes a difference to the water taste.

        I don't mean to okay devil's advocate…. but I own one.

The bottle is made of actual top tier quality.
The bottle lip is round and well polished, it's sold, but oddly soft feeling. no taste to it.

In regards to "metallic water flavour", I usually run 2 UV cycles after filling, it tastes pretty much "pure" no matter the clean water source I've used.

        • Thanks for the review - I knew someone on here would have one and could provide feedback.

          • @morse: I had so many 2am typos, haha. tried to correct myself again and again and gave up

the bottle is amazing imo, especially the coating on the outside and the way the inside and lip feels.
no other bottle I own, and I have a bunch of the premiums, No other came close to feeling of similar craftsmanship.
It doesn't even squeak like other Metal bottles.

            Main criticisms:
remembering to charge your bottle is a weird thing that I still haven't gotten around.
Bottle capacity is extremely disappointing. would've wanted double the volume.

      • get rid of the chlorine in the water and water tastes so much better. - thats what i find.

"Hey Davo, did you remember to charge your water bottle?"

"No Bazza, I didn't! Tell me family I love them………"

  • wonder what flavour is like, i would use it when traveling overseas, i go through a heap of water and it kills me always buying and throwing out bottles in some of the places with mixed water quality.

    • Can't you reuse the water bottle? Refill at hotel with boiled water?

Edit: obviously not pouring boiled water immediately….

      • hotel kettles are a bit questionable if they even have one

        • Haven't travelled in a while and damn, what's the world becoming?

          Interesting stories I've read…

          • @mbck: Quite some time ago my friend was living in Cambodia in a serviced apartment. She realised the cleaning staff were using her kettle for other purposes when she found chicken bones in there. Apparently people cook meals in hotel kettles in general. Either that or they are just rarely cleaned and might have been sitting around unused in a questionable dusty environment for a while. Also US hotels don’t usually have a kettle, more likely a coffee maker, probably similarly abused.

  • I wonder if this would help stop warm water from developing that mouldy smell after a day or two?

When you look at what an autoclave does to sterilise, its hard to believe a dinky little UV light in an induction rechargeable water bottle is going to do anything more than three fifths of stuff all.

Anywhere you don't need your water sterilized.. like in Australia with some of the best drinking water in the world… well you don't need it ..

Anywhere you do need your water sterilized.. like India or something.. I wouldn't trust this to do the job.

I don't see how this product does anything other than give you a false sense of security when drinking an unhealthy water supply that you shouldn't be drinking from.

    • you might be right. this bottle is meant for overseas poor water sources. and if i were overseas I would buy a proper filter and a 10L jug.
filter into the jug and poor into a normal water bottle to use each day.

  • Seems to be oos at least in Victoria
