Big W - Preorder refund when the price is reduced

I ordered the Avengers Bluray 3D for $35 + postage when it was listed here - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/77766#comment-1002017

Since then the price has dropped to $28.82 - http://www.bigw.com.au/entertainment/dvds-blu-ray/action-adv…

Anyone know if Big W will refund the difference automatically would would we need to email them and request it?

  • Not sure what they might do about it, but I don't think complain is the right word to use.

    • true.. "request" is probably the better word…

  • Their low price/price matching guarantee excludes online sales, but makes no specific mention of pre orders.

I've sent an email and I'll let you know what they say.

If they refuse to lower the price to match their own current price then I wont be preordering from them again until the last minute (at which point a cheaper price might appear elsewhere).

      • Hope it works out for you :)

  • I tried to contact bigw last week to cancel my online order (was thinking of getting the 6 disc pack) and no reply from them. I tried calling them today, after 15 mins on hold I gave up. Pretty poor of bigw not to offer an online cancellation service for preorders. Will try again later. Worst case scenario, if they end up delivering the order I'll return it in person to a store, but you don't get your $2 delivery cost back.

  • Damn, I preordered from them too! Just checked the order, there is nowhere to request cancellation of an item or an entire order. Returning in store looks like the best option. Wow, what a hass.

I think a lot of people would have pre-ordered based on that deal - Big W should sack up and amend everyones pre-orders.

  • I just spoke with Big W on the phone (after a 5 minute wait). They won't do a partial refund but were happy enough to cancel and place a new order. Hopefully that doesn't screw up my American Express $10 statement credit.

  • some credit cards (e.g. 28degrees) have a 30 or 60 day price guarantee.

  • All this does is hurt Big W in the future. I know all this stuffing around, I wont be preordering from Big W again unless it's a day from release. If they are going to do online ordering they need to meet with our expectations compared to other online players like Amazon and match their policy of charging the cheapest price.

  • Surprise, surprise, the price has gone up again, probably to avoid these phone calls and order amendments. I didn't bother (paid via PayPal) but I also won't be pre-ordering again from Big W. I'm considering still returning the item to Big W when it arrives and buying elsewhere as my little protest to Big W's stupid policy.

  • So I got through on their phone line and cancelled my order, PayPal was refunded about an hour later. Not really because the price dropped, though that was definitely one of the reasons. At least big w has a telephone service for their online orders - if you want a real headache, try dealing with jb hifi online department!

Price back down again. Called them, they can't amend the order, only part cancel under sufferance, pending a refund which would take up to a week. This also meant I would have to pay extra postage on the balance of my order (a few of the 50% off 3D Blu Rays). No changes or additions to an order are possible, only subtractions via emails to suppliers - sounds like high probability of error.

Effectively defeats the whole purpose of asking for the lower price. Or preordering for that matter, the Avengers items were already in the shops early, yet no sign of being dispatched from Big W suppliers.

Lesson to be learnt: Don't preorder from BigW EVER, their systems are inadequate because they take the money upfront (effectively locking you in with no recourse), so they aren't really interested in ensuring you get the lowest prices. Cha-ching! Return the item when it arrives and tell them why. Price match at JB for the win! Even eBay is cheaper and less hassle LOL.

    • That sounds overly complicated for something which should be quite simple to do i.e. partial refund. I got my refund from Big W the day I cancelled the original order and according to tracking my new order is to be delivered today. So overall not a bad result. Looking forward to getting the movie.

      • I think because there were other items on the order - which are no longer available at the same price, and with free shipping thresholds, made it problematic.

        • What Amazon does is charge the originally ordered price and refunds the difference if it had dropped lower during the preorder period.

  • So I got the order today and I realised that the comic didn't come. Go back on the site and realise it's only with the 2D BD and DVD. I just assumed all the discs sold by Big W would have it.. my fault for not realising it but Big W didn't exactly make it clear either.

Definitely never preordering from them again.
