They just launched. I would pay the extra $3 and get it from Amazon AU directly.

Edit: It has been this price for a few days. I'm going to hold out for Prime Day and see if there are better deals. This will probably just sit on my shelf for a very long time anyway.

    • I've bought from these kind of 3rd party sellers before and received an obvious knock-off. Fortunately Amazon refunded.

Amazon has mixed stock for a lot of items. It doesn’t matter where you buy from you risk receiving counterfeit board games from Amazon.

I’d buy from JB for $39.20. Risk of a counterfeit product from JB is practically nil.

Hey, I just noticed JB has Catan for $39.20. Useful if you have a perks voucher.

Our family plays board games once or twice a year (Christmas and maybe on a birthday or other gathering). When we're all bickering over what to play, the choice usually comes down to Monopoly or Catan. And Catan wins every time. It's fairly simple, involves both strategy and luck, and is more enjoyable than Monopoly. The only area that Monopoly has an advantage is in player count; Catan is really only for 3-4 players. Extra players just have to make drinks and watch until the next match.

So, for a non-board gaming household, we find Catan to be the ideal game.

    At under $40, it's a good buy.

Another game we've had a lot of casual family fun with is Exploding Kittens. It's a blast.

I see what you did there

You can get 5-6 player expansions fairy cheaply. And most of the popular expansions also have extra player kits

      • +2

Wouldn't say the expansions are cheap but they are for sure worth it. Even just to make a bigger map. I play almost weekly with my partner and her parents and having a bigger map makes it more fun and gives more variables. We usually play the seafarers extention too which is simple but adds a little more to it.

Your right, $30 is basically the whole game

Monopoly is terrible. Catan is pretty good.

A lot of Catan boards sold on Amazon are fakes. You will still be able to play the game however the pieces will be of lower quality. Would buy directly from Amazon AU.

Buying from Amazon AU doesn’t eliminate the risk of counterfeit board games. Buy from JB or other reputable seller without mixed stock.

Catan is a great gateway game for folks who aren't "into" boardgames. There's strategy involved, there's still an element of luck with the dice rolls, and you get to build little structures with your roads and houses between turns.

I'd pay the extra $3 for peace-of-mind from Amazon; whilst the knock-off versions are still the same game, the quality of the print and pieces isn't as good.

  • It’s a great game. Get it $30 from The Glen.

    • What's The Glen?
