  • Does it really need wifi? If they made a dumb version you could control it with a smart plu.

Can’t adjust temp with a smart plug I guess.

I wouldn’t recommend these blankets. Both of my controllers emit a constant coil whine that is audible from the bed.

I didn’t buy through this seller, but they have been responsive and honest when I have talked to them in the past.

Seconded. Had this exact same model from Spotlight a couple years ago and they too emitted coil whine.

      • Did you buy something else to replace it? If so: What would you recommend?

    • +1

Ah you could hear that too? My wife doesn't hear anything but I do.

      • +1

Initially my partner couldn’t hear it, but can now occasionally. I hear it whenever I’m in bed and there is no talking or devices playing.

I’ve had other devices with mild coil whine, but this one is the most irritating.

worst idea ever. Keep all wifi devices out of the bedroom!

    • but my tinfoil hat protects me when I sleep…

I have this device and enjoy it. The wifi feature is useful as it allows you to program the blanket to turn on through the app, allowing you to set the time, duration and heat level.

It's nice coming to an already warm bed in winter. You can also have multiple schedules running, in case like me, you like some warmth in the morning as you get up.

    General electric blanket tips:
1- Only use the high mode to prep the bed, when you're not in it. (it works great if you turn it on, and take a shower)
2- Don't sleep with the blanket on. It will dehydrate you and cause headaches.

Doesn’t sound like a safe thing to be promoting here.

      • +1

What do you mean? You take it into the shower to protect yourself?

@jv: From the cold water. It heats it up. 100% recommend.

    • Does yours have the coil whine others are complaining about?

      • In 9+ months of owning it, I've never heard anything from the bed when the remote is on the floor. That being said, I just went now and put it right up to my ear and there is indeed faint, high frequency coil whine. My hearing according to audio tests fades out around 17KHz so perhaps, I'm just less sensitive to it. Or maybe I got lucky.

Tl;Dr: Yes coil whine exists but it is so faint that I've never heard it in bed.

Why the hell does an electric blanket need WiFi?

    • exactly, I turn mine on 10 mins before I go to bed and it's already taken the shock factor out of the sheets, which is all I want it for.

    • +3

Many reasons - you might want it to autmatically come on only when the temperature dips below x degrees and its an hour before your regular sleep time during the week / maybe different time on weekend. Then turn off when you fall alseep or get into bed with a bed sensor. Maybe in the morning on a weekend when its cold & you want to sleep in.

Sure you can lean over and click click click like its 1983 but why the hell would anyone want to do that?

        Like an animal?!

  • Omg!!! Lol. This is bad lol.

Is this the 2.4GHz or 5GHz version?

    • +2

      6E or no deal.

    • 2.4GHz

  • I bought from spotlight a few years ago. No issue at all with mine.

  • +2

Aside from the constant noise, it nicely integates locally with home assistant through localtuya.
It has three heat settings, and uses 21, 41 and 75 watts respectively.
By default if you turn it on it goes to medium and stays on for an hour.
The blanket material is not as good as our old Breville one.
    The controllers are really bulky.

  • I can recommend flannelette sheets, they have way less "getting in a cold bed factor" shock factor.
