PSA: Don't Forget to Spend a Few Minutes to Quote/Compare Prices for CTP/Insurances

It makes sense, but with the current economic situation that we are all in, don't forget to to requote your insurances/CTP.

For NSW, it will be https://www.greenslips.nsw.gov.au/. Typically, prices will be within a few dollars, but today as I was about to blindingly renew my CTP, I found that Allianz was $100 cheaper than all the other major offerings.

This goes for everything else, but taking advantage of first policy discounts, I was about to save over 50% on my comprehensive insurance too, going from the renewal cost of $676 to just $316/yr.

CTP should all be roughly the same. The $100 off is for "good driver" discount that some of the providers offer.

QBE does this too but you need to be Australian citizen/drivers license, over 30 and no demerits.

    • Im not over 30 nor zero demerits. But it still was $100 off.

AAMI is always cheaper for me. For a while they were even cheaper than themselves, so I'd just buy a new policy every time.

    • Every time I get a new quote from AAMI for my car and current address, it's always more expensive than my renewal price. If I plug in my neighbour's address, it's significantly cheaper. Makes me think that the quotes service looks up existing customers and cheats to make the renewal look cheap and that cheaper prices are only good for the first year, as they want new customers.

      • That's the same with me and my next-door neighbour. I think it's because they're on a corner block where people are less likely to use their driveway to do three-point turns (unlike my driveway)

        • Possible but I doubt the algorithm is that advanced. I noticed the same phenomenon when I used to live in a block of units. My neighbouring unit's address gave me a $700 quote but my own address (while being a policy holder) gave me $1100. We had a shared driveway, nothing fancy.

  • comprehensive insurance $316/yr.
